Hi James Did you already try /configure --x-libraries=/usr/lib/ ./configure --x-libraries=/usr/lib/ --x-includes=/usr/include/X11/ If this does not help send the config.log file. I sent this once already, but I don't think it got there. I installed TORCS using apt-get, and it worked fine. I now wish to develop robot(s), so I am installing it from source, as berniw's tutorial says to. Please check config.log and if you can't solve the problem send the file to tor...@li... with the subject "torcs compilation problem" So I go away to install libx11-dev, but it appears that I've already got it. I have had TORCS running before, which I installed with apt-get. I wanted to make a robot, so I uninstalled the deb and am now compiling from source (as per Berniw's tutorial). It says there is a problem with libX11, but I do have it installed and libX11.so is available. ./configure said: checking for XOpenDisplay in -lX11... no configure: error: Can't find libX11. Hi, I have been looking into TORCS' source code and tried to use several functions and data structures which indicate the possibility to restart a race, but none of them worked. Could you point me to the function and dat= a structures necessary to restart the current race? I can fit it into my bo= t myself, I'm just lost which code I should be looking at to be honest, and this function would help me a lot. Three factors affect it: 1) Torque curve 2) Friction coefficient 3) Car weight 4) Rotational inertia of wheels and of engine. I assume you made your torque curve so that it has the correct maximum torque and maximum power values. And that the car weight is approximately correct. If those are OK, but you still get fast times, then check the inertia. As I said some times before, the rotational inertia of the engine is ignored in simuv2. That could lead to much better acceleration in high gear ratios than in reality. So, try it with simuv3 and see if you get more realistic times. If you are still getting fast times after you've increased the engine inertia to more than 0.5 or so then the only remaining culprit would be the friction coefficient. A lot of cars tyres in torcs have a coefficient of 1.7 or more. Try for something lower until you get the right value. To give you an idea, when I model my own car using torcs, I get 0-100 times that around 10% faster than in reality. There are also other losses which are probably not large enough in the model, such as the drivetrain efficiencies. You could try lowering those until you get a reasonable performance. |

Hi everybody.
I have been modyfying other historic cars in the same way as I did the Ferrari 330 P4. I'm not finished yet, I have to finetune the handling characteristics of the cars I have a hint of how they should be. Would there be any interest in seeing them when I have finished?
While doing this I notised that the acceleration of the cars was much higher than what I noted on various internet pages. It is easily fixed by increasing the weight of the car. This, together with the Cx modification I wrote about earlier, raises the issue: If you must modify values like that to get the performance right there may be something wrong. I can think of four reasons:
1: I may misunderstand something.
If so, I'd appreciate links or other resources for my education.
2: The information found on various internet pages are too inaccurate.
Then you have to modify all values to get a "middle of everything" car and not be that concerned with the given values.
3: The simulation Simuv 2 cannot model the engines with enough accuracy.
Changing Cx and weight until a better engine simulation is available is the way to go here.
4: The physics engine in torcs isn't properly calibrated.
Also here is changing Cx and weight until a calibration is done the right thing.
Any comments welcome.
On tires: Would a heuristics tying tire wear to tire squeal work? With a layer of goo on the tires if you run off track? Perhaps with historic tires more forgiving of abuse than modern?
Do sourceforge have a test mailing list I can use?
Regards
Kennet

Hi again Pedro I just visited once more viaarena, and it actually looks like a lot of people have problems with OpenGL on VIA, visit: http://forums.viaarena.com/categories.aspx?catid=31&entercat=y and enter "OpenGL" in the search box. We have this already in the bug tracking system. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1162378&group_id=3777&atid=103777 When I heard of it the first time I tried to find a contact at VIA (to let them know about the problem and to find a solution/workaround), but I was not able to find one... I am convinced that this is a VIA driver problem because TORCS runs on a wide variety of hardware/drivers on different platforms. The only thing you can do is to find an updated driver... Hi there, and thanks; here is a similar looking problem I googled for: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.games.torcs.general/725 * A good description of the problem. Its always dark in the game :) Here is a screenshot of the game while starting a race, I accelerated turning to a side to try to get something meaningful AND used the video controls deom the video card to display a higher gamma, brightness and contrast. http://www.geocities.com/cucnews/tocs1.png pics are worth a million words here lol * The TORCS version, did you compile from source? The TORCS Team TORCS - The Open Racing Car Simulator 1.3.0 windows binary * The console output of TORCS. You can search for "Console output from torcs!" in this message to look at it * Your operating system (uname -a). MS Windows XP Home Edition (5.1.2600 Service Pack 2) * The output of "glxinfo -l" (Linux, FreeBSD). You can search for "GLEW Extension Info" in this message to look at the info created with glewinfo.exe * The /var/log/XFree86.0.log file (Linux, FreeBSD). No idea how to do that with windows, but I did try ;) And this is the complete system report, please tell me if I can help you help me more ;) +-----------------------------------------+ | System Summary | +-----------------------------------------+ Processor Summary Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Coprocessor: Internal CPU Clock: 1833.2 MHz (11.0 x 166.7 MHz DDR) Level 1 Cache: 64+64 kB (data+instr.) Hi Pedro > hi all, tocs is so cool Thank you for that:-) > I play it on a pc but I put it on a second pc and it > runs at night? I guess you mean the screen is black (TORCS has no dynamic day/night, the only night track is mixed-1)? Please read the FAQ to learn what information we need, do not forget to tell us about your system (Operating System, Hardware platform, graphics card, etc.). Without more info I would guess (!) it is a graphics driver problem, so fetch the most stable driver and install it. > I need it to be day as the other installation, how can > I change this? A possibility is that you have a graphics driver with game profiles and the gamma setting is totally weird set, who knows, please provide more information. If you find a solution please let us know as well about your findings, the information might be useful for future/other users. Bye, Bernhard. -- Visit my homepage http://www.berniw.org Official TORCS racing: The TORCS Racing Board, http://www.berniw.org/trb |
