Hi Nabaraj If you configure your 3 displays as one screen, TORCS should work as usual with the very wide screen, see the FAQ to learn how to set up the custom resolution. If you want to configure it with viewing angles and such, it does currently not fit your requirements. For the straight track you can use trackgen, and generate e.g. an oval, e.g. 10 km straight, 180 degree turn, and the same again. Dear torcs-users, I am after a simple driving simulator software that runs in 3 monitor setup and has a simple straight track that can run with G27 steering and pedal system. I dont have skill and time to create my own track for this purpose . I am doing a human psychology experiment by using the driving simulator. If anyone could suggest something, it would be great. Hi Anand No, there is no workaround/patch that I am aware of, anybody else? Maybe this will be some day possible, but I guess if it is going ever to happen it will be maybe i 3-5 years from now, so not anytime soon (I plan to have traffic like scenarios with split/joints/crossings/dead ends, and a drag strip is just stating from a dead end driving to another dead end with 2 different measuring points). So this would be a much more flexible model than now, where you will be able to model city like scenarios, circuits, drag strips/rally stages, ROC like scenarios, configurable semantic of measuring points, etc. If you need a "drag strip only" modification I think that is doable with some hundred lines of code, maybe in 2-5 days (depending on the requirements/feature set), but this would be a "too specialized" feature to go into TORCS, but if you need it for your project, just do it:-) Best regards Bernhard On 11/24/2012 02:13 PM, ANAND MADHUSOODANAN wrote: > Hi, > Ya i was looking at something like a drag strip. Hi Anand This accel mean "accelerator pedal", so you can think of it as from "closed position of the carburetor or inlet/injection system" (0, which is of course nor fully closed, otherwise the engine would go off) up to fully open (1). As you can see this has no simple connection to the acceleration which will happen to the car, because this depends then on much more factors: - Where you are on the torque curve - Feedback from the wheels/drivetrain (differential, efficiency, momentum, this as well depends on - Grip level of wheels, Forces on the car (Drag, impact of wall/car, slope of track, ...), etc, so even downforce etc. is involved. Basically most of the physics model/current state has an impact on the acceleration which will effectively result. So there is no trivial way to get the precise acceleration from the pedal value (car->accel), it depends on a lot of car state. Hope this helps. Best regards Bernhard On 11/24/2012 12:45 AM, ANAND MADHUSOODANAN wrote: > Hi Bernhard, > Thanks a lot for the clarification. I have another doubt regarding the acceleration in Torcs. the "accel" variable can take a value between 0 and 1, with 0.1 being 10% acceleration etc. But how does it translate into acceleration in normal units like meter/second^2. In other words, if i give the accel a value of 1, how much does the velocity change by? If i stop giving accel any value after the car reaches a particular speed, what is the rate of decrease of speed? > > Please do let me know. > > Thanks and Regards, > Anand. > > > On Nov 23, 2012, at 11:51 AM, Bernhard Wymann <be...@bl...> wrote: > >> Hi >> >> Do you mean something like a drag strip? >> >> If you just use trackgen to generate a basic 3D model, just define one straigt and you are done (trackgen can generate non closed tracks without terrain), but TORCS will not be able to handle it properly in the current and past versions, just closed "loops" are currently supported (circuits). >> >> Best regards >> >> Bernhard >> >> On 11/22/2012 08:48 PM, Anand Madhusoodanan wrote: >>> Hi, >>> I am trying to generate a straight track using the trackgen, but >>> am having making a proper xml file for it. Hi Do you mean something like a drag strip? If you just use trackgen to generate a basic 3D model, just define one straigt and you are done (trackgen can generate non closed tracks without terrain), but TORCS will not be able to handle it properly in the current and past versions, just closed "loops" are currently supported (circuits). Hi Kartik You download the "all in one package" or the partial source packages, you browser the CVS directly on the CVS page or check out the source with CVS, scroll through the torcs download and installation page. There where you have to compile it, you have the sources. To do something with it you will need a development environment, with GUN/Linux/FreeBSD those come with the system, for Windows you require to download VS2008 express or higher from Microsoft (2008 and 2010 should work, I did not yet try the 2012 version, VS 6.0 works as well, but there is no free download AFAIK). Hi,
I am trying to generate a straight track using the trackgen, but am
having making a proper xml file for it. Are there some fully straight
tracks already available? Please do let me know.

Anand.

Now that the NASCAR boys had their season finale at Homestead, I noticed the hm-speedway I've created is really too fast (the fastest qualifying lap was ~30.5 seconds, while I've run close to 30-second laps in simuv3). I'm in the process of tweaking hm-speedway again, and intend to release it when I've had more time to test it. One more thing I hadn't mentioned in the readme or around these parts: mi-speedway track should have different width in turns (wider) than on straights, but at least I couldn't change the width once it was set (start width and end width didn't make any difference). I don't know if there's any solution available. -- http://www.fastmail.fm - IMAP accessible web-mail |

Updates to the seven oval tracks released earlier. I added fences to all of them and tried to improve the textures when possible, plus did some fine-tuning of the track .xml. The fence texture is anything but perfect (looks really too black from a distance despite my attempts at making it transparent), but that's all I could do now. Like with the initial version, take a look at the readme file which also describes the license of these tracks. If you have ideas how to improve these tracks, particularly solutions to the issues listed in the readme, I'm listening. I don't know how much further I can go on my own, since adding more elements apparently involves using blender, at which I fail miserably. These are the links to the track files (same procedure as with the first release, email download links before the actual download): ac-speedway http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/394884/ac-speedway.tar.bz2 dd-speedway http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/394885/dd-speedway.tar.bz2 hm-speedway http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/394886/hm-speedway.tar.bz2 mi-speedway http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/394889/mi-speedway.tar.bz2 mr-speedway http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/394890/mr-speedway.tar.bz2 ne-speedway http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/394891/ne-speedway.tar.bz2 ri-speedway http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/394892/ri-speedway.tar.bz2 -------------------- Oh, and if I forgot to mention the basic instructions, the contents of the archive, the track folder, should be extracted to the /tracks/oval folder. Certainly not rocket science. One last note about mr-speedway: in case (after downloading and trying the track) you wonder why the concrete texture continues so weirdly onto the straightaways, that's approximately how it is in reality, visible in real track images. It was incredibly difficult to make the lighter concrete texture fit there, cutting across the lanes toward the outside wall. -- http://www.fastmail.fm - The professional email service |

Hi,
I have successfully installed Torcs-1.3.2-test1 and also managed to complete a race. Now i have added my own robot . I am using a timer_settime in my code for a small timer functionality. There seems to be no problems during make and make install inside my robot folder. My robot also shows up in a practice race. But when i try to start the race, it crashes with the error message
"undefined symbol : timer_settime " .
After some googling, i found out that we need to add a "-lrt" while compiling the code. However my problem is , i don't know where to add it, as everything is happening through Makefiles. Am i suppose to edit something in Make-default.mk or Make-config.in?
Could someone help me out with this?
Thanks and Regards,
Anand.

Hi,
I am trying to install torcs-1.3.2-test1 on Ubuntu 12.04.

I tried the fix mentioned by going into src/lib/raceengine and executing
g++ -shared -o libraceengine.so singleplayer.o raceinit.o racemain.o
racemanmenu.o racestate.o racegl.o raceengine.o raceresults.o -lracescreens
-lrobottools -L/home/tribula/Dev/torcs-1.3.3/export/lib -lalut -lvorbisfile
-L/usr/lib
But i am getting the following error.
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lracescreens
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lrobottools
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
Could someone help me out? Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Hi,
I am using Torcs as part of a project , where i have to add two robots
and implemente Adaptive Cruise Control based on the distance between the
two robots in Torcs. As of now, i calculate the distance between the two
cars, by finding the difference between the distance covered by the two
cars, for every simulation time step. This is somewhat of a "near perfect"
implementation and not how it works in real world cars which use a radar
sensor to detect obstacles in front and adapt accordingly.
Is there a way to implement a virtual sensor in Torcs, say something that
works like a Radar(used in real cars) or say a ping sensor for a demo
model? Basically, I am looking at a sensor implementation in software or
maybe even some available code that models a sensor that i can interface
with Torcs.
For e.g., if a car in front is going over a curve on the road, it may go
out of the range of view of my radar sensor . When both cars are on a
straight road and on same lanes, the virtual sensor gets the correct
reading and implements ACC. If there a lane change by the car in front,
then the sensor detects that there is no obstacle in front and can speed up.
Is there a way to progmmatically implement such a sensor behaviour in Torcs
? Has anyone done something like this in Torcs or knows of something that
will work in my case? Please provide any suggestions and ideas that come to
mind.
Regards,
Anand.

Hi Vaclav I just thought so far about wet surfaces, they are currently not supported, but I understand the behaviour and have a reasonable simulation model for it. What properties does driving on ice have, is it just a low friction coefficient (you can set this in the surface definition of the xml track description), or does a water film build up between the ice and the tire when the slip is "burning" enough energy, maybe it is even dependent on the outside temperature (e.g. around -5°C there builds a water film but with -40°C it stays just solid, does colder ice lead to higher friction, ...)? If you want to play with lower friction, e.g. back up wheel-2.xml, then go to <section name="asphalt-w2">, look for <attnum name="friction" val="1.15"/> <attnum name="rolling resistance" val="0.0012"/> and set e.g. the friction to 0.5 or lower and check if that meets your desired behaviour. Beware, the robots might fail badly then, but just give it a try. Let me know about your findings. Hi Anand Maybe this helps, but I think it is not an exact match: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=28858709 There was some linkage fix in 1.3.4, maybe you can try this version first? If it still does not work please post more output, previous warnings etc might help to see the root cause for this. Best regards Bernhard |

Hi Charles I just guess that libm is missing, i have it here on OpenSuSE (and in lib): /lib64/libm-2.14.1.so /lib64/libm.so.6 (symlink) Do you have those as well (may be on a different place in your system, if you cannot find them, install it. On 11/07/2012 02:50 AM, cha...@ao... wrote: > #define VERSION "1.2.4" So I guess you are using 1.2.4 directly for the debian repository or did you download the sources from torcs.sf.net? What about installing TORCS first from the repository (then all dependencies are installed), then uninstall the precompiled TORCS with keeping the dependencies? Hope this helps Best regards Bernhard |

All right, if you care about oval racing, here are seven tracks based on actual Sprint Cup tracks. As always, all are provided as is, without warranty of any kind. They have been tested thoroughly before release, but since systems and circumstances vary, I can't make any guarantees. Please read the readme file before using the tracks (or bombarding me with questions and complaints) as it explains plenty of things about the track and its issues. In short, these are not full versions with all the graphics elements in place, but they're drivable and hopefully more realistic and challenging than the monotonous, generic speedways that come with the game. Like before with the paint schemes, I've uploaded the track files to a file host, and you need to give an email address there to receive a link which enables you to download the track. These are the tracks in question: ac-speedway based on Auto Club Speedway, a fast 2-mile superspeedway (Fontana, CA) download by following this link: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/391608/ac-speedway.tar.bz2 dd-speedway based on Dover Downs International Speedway, a fast, high-banked one-mile concrete oval (Dover, DE) NOTE: because of the high banking of this track (24 degrees in turns), the default race engine simuv2 fails, and the car goes on two wheels and loses a lot of speed (already described in an earlier post). Racing with simuv2 is therefore pretty much impossible. By compiling and using simuv3, you may race on this track, but there are other issues (described in the readme). download by following this link: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/391611/dd-speedway.tar.bz2 hm-speedway based on Homestead-Miami Speedway, a fast, high-banked 1.5-mile oval (Homestead, FL) NOTE: like with dd-speedway, the annoying two-wheel show ruins racing at hm-speedway. Currently, the only option is to compile and use simuv3 as the race engine. download by following this link: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/391612/hm-speedway.tar.bz2 mi-speedway based on Michigan International Speedway, a fast 2-mile superspeedway (Brooklyn, MI) NOTE: significantly different from the "Michigan" of the default installation. This track has correct length and banking and hopefully also bears resemblance to the incredibly fast 2-mile track. download by following this link: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/391613/mi-speedway.tar.bz2 mr-speedway based on Martinsville Speedway, a tight, low-banked half-mile oval (Ridgeway, VA) download by following this link: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/391615/mr-speedway.tar.bz2 ne-speedway based on New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a low-banked one-mile oval (Loudon, NH) download by following this link: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/391616/ne-speedway.tar.bz2 ri-speedway based on Richmond International Raceway, a D-shaped 0.75-mile oval (Richmond, VA) download by following this link: http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/391618/ri-speedway.tar.bz2 ----------------------- If someone knows how to improve these tracks or has access to vital track information I don't have, let me know so these could be updated. Especially the pit road/front stretch issue (creating a separate, straight pit road on a curving front stretch, with grass and sometimes a wall between pit road and track, very common on real tracks) is rather critical, and if that could be solved, a number of other ovals (e.g. Chicagoland, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Kansas, Atlanta) could be released too. Right now, those other tracks simply aren't ready for general use. Finally, it's important to note that the choice of the race engine may have a huge impact on your racing and speeds. I tried to add some degree of realism to the tracks so that real track records wouldn't be threatened. For testing, I drove a stock car with a decent oval setup (definitely not the default setup, which won't work at all), using simuv2 except for dd-speedway and hm-speedway for the above-mentioned reasons. Then I tweaked the track surface settings to get realistic (for an amateur racer like me) yet not too fast lap times. However, with simuv3, all those adjustments might mean very little. For example, at ac-speedway, generally 39.5-40.5-second practice laps with simuv2, but even two seconds faster with simuv3. Same is true more or less on other tracks as well. And of course, driving a different (e.g. trb1) car probably changes everything. Just something to keep in mind. Time for a pit stop. Drive safely. -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Access all of your messages and folders wherever you are |

Hello, today I found TORCS. I have read FAQ ( btw there are bad links to the FAQ file chapters) and HOWTOs but I could not find answer to my question. Is it possible to set surface parameters ? I would like to simulate driving on the ice, snow or wet surface. Can TORCS support this feature ? Thank you in advance, Vaclav |

Hi guys. I'm new to torcs and I'm doing a project about racing game ai for my 3rd year of university,in which I'll need to make my own bot for torcs. I've been working through Bernhard Wymann's tutorial and it was difficult at first because I'm new to Ubuntu and it's command line. I was getting used to it however, and I was making progress until I came across this error: checking for X11/keysym.h... yes checking plib/ssg.h usability... yes checking plib/ssg.h presence... yes checking for plib/ssg.h... yes checking AL/al.h usability... yes checking AL/al.h presence... yes checking for AL/al.h... yes checking for sin in -lm... no configure: error: Can't find libm. Please check config.log and if you can't solve the problem send the file to tor...@li... with the subject "torcs compilation problem" The "checking for sin in -lm... no" line is at line number 616 in the config.log file. Like I said I'm very new to this so I have pretty much no idea how to analyse the config.log file, so any help would be very much appreciated, I'm dying to get into the actual coding of the bot. Thanks Charles :) |
