Oops, sorry. My mistake. It turns out that I had an invalid TORCS_BASE setting. I'm able to compile now. Do you have a "MAKE_DEFAULT or TORCS_BASE environment variable set which points to an old directory? Hi all, Is there any way to save an ongoing race in torcs? Would it be possible to pause a race, save the parameters of the players and track, and store it for later resuming? In the meantime, would it make any sense to try using CryoPID Linux process freezer (http://cryopid.berlios.de/) to create a snapshot of a paused torcs race (http://sf.net/projects/torcs), that could be thawed later? Cheers, Albert. |

For the code in tgfclient/img.cpp: there is now "%uld", which means that "%u" is replaced by an unsigned int and "ld" is printed after it. I think "%lu" is better here, because it means that "%lu" is replaced by an long unsigned int. At least here the types are long unsigned int. About the xmltok warnings: I made (and attached) a patch which fixes the compile warnings here. It looks consistent with the surrounding code, but it is only a guess that this is the right solution. I also don't know if the patch works on all systems. The original code seems to come from expat, but I can't find a comparable diff in their version system. This are only compile warnings which I think are not very harmfull. I think the ones in trackgen are worse. > Thanks for the report, bye > > Bernhard. Regards, Mart |

Ok, various things happened from 1.2.4 to 1.3.0: - Some cars use much more triangles (e.g. lotus-gt1 from ~700 in 1.2.4 to ~4000 in 1.3.0). - Texture size has been raised from 512x512 to 1024x1024 for some cars. The performance depends heavily on these factors: - The set of opponents you choose (high or low poly models, e.g for one lotus-gt1 you can render 10 buggies in the same time). - Your card has "just" 64MB memory, try in the TORCS options->OpenGL to enable texture compression or/and texture downscaling. Uploading textures all the time to the graphics card because of insufficient memory kills performance, if you have a budget GeForce 4 MX with just a 64 bit memory bus less data will unload the bus. - Disable the rear mirror. Specific to the "old" GeForce cards: - Do not enable antialiasing. - Do not enable in the driver anisotropic filtering, looks great, but costs too much. - Some graphics drivers had ugly problems, get a recent version. - Set your screen color depth to 32 bits. > Do you think that to play in this track (or other hi-resolution tracks) > I must buy poweful graphic card in order to race fluently (get a good > number of frames per second)? At least on my systems TORCS is NOT very sensitive on the graphics card, as long as there is sufficient memory, I personally test with a GeForce 3, 5700, 6600go and a 6800, and even an ancient TNT (ok, this is really slow, but still playable with a few cars)). The GeForce 3 does well, as long as there is sufficient memory to hold the textures. You can find the limit by adding one car each run and at a certain point the performance goes down badly. Then you need to enable texture compression or/and downscaling to add more cars. > Another question is the telemetry in torcs. I have seen in the sources the folder > torcs-1.3.0/src/modules/telemetry > but in the windows binary version 1.3.0 this interesting option is not available. > Is avalilable the telemetry on the linux version? No. I hope it will be available in ~2 years. Just short my plan (this is not a promise!): - basic network multi player mode - adding more and more features to that There are other things in discussion which will lead to results, but are not my top priorities, so I will not mention them here;-) Bye, Bernhard. -- Visit my homepage http://www.berniw.org Official TORCS racing: The TORCS Racing Board, http://www.berniw.org/trb |

Hmm, that's weird, the format thing should be fixed, but that could depend on the libpng header version, and the xmltok is for me system dependent (2 systems with gcc 4.1.1, maybe the --enable-debug has something to do with this, this was the only significant difference). I at all people that is testing the new version of torcs v1.3.0.
I tinks that is a good version and thanks to all people that have
worked on this new version.
I have test the binary version for windows: 1.3.0
I have found a little problem in the new track: ruudskogen.
The ruudskogen track seems to be very big (about 8 mb the acc file) and
I can't race fluently (I can't get more than 12 frames per second,
with the other tracks I can get 25 frames per second and race fluently).
I test it with a quick race (with 12 oponents) and wtih a practise without
oponents and in ruudskogen track I couldn't race fluently.
I have test the same track in the torcs binary version for windows: 1.2.4
I'm running torcs on Windows XP professional with SP2, Processor: 2.4 GHz,
512 MB of RAM, Nvidea G-force4 64 MB and a sound target integrated
with the mother board.
The set up of the torcs binary version for windows: 1.2.4 is:

Do you think that to play in this track (or other hi-resolution tracks)
I must buy poweful graphic card in order to race fluently (get a good
number of frames per second)?
If the problem can be solved with a powerful graphic card I will buy a new
one in order to play with hi-resolution tracks.
(I'm making formula 1 trakcs and cars and if the new tracks can be
as big as the ruudskogen I will increase the resolution of the
formula 1 track: my first project is the Barcelona Spain (montmelo)
track. http://www4.uji.es/~al063357/tutorials/torcs/
Moreover I'm developing a forum to get people involved in this project of
making f1 tracks and cars, now it has no contents but the adress is:
http://s8.createphpbb.com/f1torcs/ ).
I think this is important because other peple can have the same problem
and maybe to run in this track we will need a better grapic card (maybe
128 mb or 256 mb).
So maybe we have to add int the section of the FAQ a new entry for very
hi-resolution traks.
2.2.2 Driving yourself.
Minimum: 550MHz CPU, 128MB RAM, OpenGL 1.3 compatible graphics card with 32 MB RAM.
Recommended: 800MHz CPU, 256MB RAM, OpenGL 1.3 compatible graphics card with 64 MB RAM.
Another question is the telemetry in torcs. I have seen in the sources the folder
torcs-1.3.0/src/modules/telemetry
but in the windows binary version 1.3.0 this interesting option is not available.
Is avalilable the telemetry on the linux version?
We have to compile this telemetry program and run wiht torcs?
The telemetry will be available in a near future for TORCS (linux and windows)?
The telemetry on torcs will increase the quality of the game and the car simulator
will be more real. If the telemetry is available in a near future it will be great.
I hope that my comments about this new test version of torcs help to develop this nice game.
Thanks to read this.

The behavior is undefined[2], so I can't know for sure what the indented behavior is. I'm starting some machine learning tests with TORCS, but haven't found out a way to increase the simulation speed to more than 4x. Is there a way to increase the speed more, preferably with the only limit the speed of the processor? And can visualization be dis- and enabled during these tests as well? It would surely increase the learning a lot. |
