The problem is PLIB 1.5 Please get the 1.4.2 version (http://plib.sf.net) and it will work better. You'll have to run the ./configure command again for TORCS. PLIB team decided to use the same version numbering principles than the Linux kernel, so the 1.5.0 is an exact copy of the 1.4.0 for the development branch (odd numbers are for development and even numbers for stable branch). By using the 1.5.0 version of PLIB the Debian people thought it was a recent version... but it is older than the 1.4.2 :-( And due to some incompatibilities between PLIB versions, TORCS is currently running *ONLY* with the PLIB 1.4.2 version and *NOT* the 1.6.x Bye, Eric. --=20 =3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D= +=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D TORCS The Open Racing Car Simulator http://torcs.org =3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D= +=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D+=3D |

Looks like you're right about it being a dynamic lib loader problem, this is the last message to the console: Loading Graphic Engine... linuxModLoad: ... modules/graphic/ssggraph.so: undefined symbol: __11ssgVtxTable6GLenumP14ssgVertexArrayP14ssgNormalArrayP16ssgTexCoordArray= P14ssgColourArray I'm running a debian 3.0 flavour (Norvegian Skolelinux) with a 2.4.19 kernel. I thonk it is a dynamic library loading problem (missing symbol
in general...)
try to recompile with:
$ cd <torcs directory>
$ make clean
$ ./configure --enable-debug
$ make && make install
The game won't work better, but in the console you'll
have tons of traces, and certainly the last one should
be the problem while loading ssggraph.so
Could you indicate also your linux distro and the version
of PLIB on your system, there are known problems with
PLIB version other than 1.4.2
Thanks,
Eric Espie.

Hmm, no it still won't work. If I comment just line 40 or just line 43 it hangs at Loading Graphics Engine and if I comment both it hangs at Loading Simulation Engine... I'm lost and I really wanted to try TORCS :( more suggestions are welcome. Jon =D8yvind |

Hello, I've recently obtained TORCS 1.10 through a Linux Format cd. I've successfully compiled and installed the following packages: TORCS-1.1.0b-src.tgz TORCS-1.1.0-data-cars-gt.tgz TORCS-1.1.0-data.tgz TORCS-1.1.0-src-robots-base.tgz TORCS-1.1.0a-src-robots-berniw.tgz TORCS-1.1.0-data-cars-dtm.tgz TORCS-1.1.0-data-cars-misc.tgz TORCS-1.1.0-data-tracks-base.tgz TORCS-1.1.0-src-robots-K1999.tgz However, it won't work. That is; it I can start it, calibrate my steering wheel, create a player select tracks, opponets and so on, but when I try racing (either through quick race or through practice) it hangs displaying: Race Configuration... Loading Simulation Engine... Loading Graphics Engine... (and a picture) Still, top reports that torcs is happily chewing 95% of my CPU cycles. I've tried setting graphics option down, running only bots, but it doesn't work and shouldn't it work on a AthlonXP 1800+ with a GeForce2 card?? Jon =D8yvind |
