This is mostly a MS VC++ question.* I'm trying to follow Bernhard's robot tutorial in windows but I don't know how to compile my new robot. (I've not used VC++ much before just gcc) I've got the sources and compiled Torcs fine and I can edit the bt robot and recompile and race it without a problem. I've run the robotgen script (on my headless linux machine) and got a skeleton driver which I've put in C:\torcs\torcs-1.3.0\src\drivers\ but I don't know how to import this into VC++ or get it built. I can currently follow the tutorial by downloading the bt skeleton robot from the end of the first chapter and replacing the finished src\drivers\bt file with it, but I'd obviously like to create my own robot. I suppose if I could copy the bt robot within MS VC++ that would do the trick but I can't even do that. Help/ advice/ suggestions/ pointers to the friendly manual/ etc would all be welcome thanks. -Verm *Yes I'm sorry, but I've only got windows on this machine. ___________________________________________________________ What kind of emailer are you? When running the configure script locally, it redefines LDFLAGS at the point just before checking X11 libraries to -L$x_libraries. On my system, this path is empty (not sure if that's good, but okay) so it rewrites it to "-L". It then interprets the filename of the next test as library path, figures it doesn't have any files to compile and errors out. The error given is that my X11 library isn't findable. Could you fix the script to not assume a variable to be set? |

Hi all! For my master degree thesis, I have been working on a robot which is able to learn to drive by itself. TORCS is used for about halve the experiments (a much simpler Java simulation is used for the other experiments). For those interested in more details: A neural network is used to control the car. The weights are tuned using Evolution Strategies (ES), which means that a reinforcement learning approach is used. Different combinations of inputs are tried out, as well as different coding approaches for the outputs. General driving skills are learnt, so the robot is able to race also new, unseen tracks. Experiments were also run using the Temporal Difference (TD) learning framework that comes with TORCS. However, the results were bad. The learning is quite simple, with no opponents, pit stops etc. So the robot is not able to race against opponent cars! TORCS was modified for the training in the following ways: - A "batch-mode" was implemented, where the graphics is disabled. - A common data area was shared between the robot and the rest of TORCS. (A pointer was passed in the tCarElt->ctrl.lightCmd field). This was used to communicate to and from the robot. - Initialization between races was made much faster, primarily by skipping reloading of the robot, track and the simulation engine (simuv2). After training, the results were saved and the driving could be observed using a "normal" TORCS. Perhaps some elements of my thesis can be interesting if you work on similar projects, I have an impression that also other people use TORCS for this type of problems... The thesis is available here: http://www.ia-stud.hiof.no/~morganja/learning_to_race.pdf (1.3Mb) Best regards, Morgan |

Hi Diego > One more question about TORCS for my project... I am very excited whit this... ;) My statement just tells that it is easily possible, but you need to adopt TORCS for your requirements. Have a look at racestate.cpp and raceengine.cpp, watch it in action with a debugger , then you will get an idea. Hello! I have done some attempts on using reinforcement learning in TORCS. During the this work, I have made some adjustments to the code. For the problem of terminating a race, the following solution can be used: - If the robot wants to terminate the race, set the tCarElt->ctrl.lightCmd to a specific value. - In raceengine.cpp, check the lightCmd value of the robot. Add a check inside the ReOneStep() function, about line #550 in my (modified) version... Make sure the flag is reset before starting the next race! Note that I use version 1.2.4 -Morgan Diego Perez wrote: > Hello all again, > > One more question about TORCS for my project... I've read various tutorials for designing cars, and I've never been able to quite get one completed. What I'm interested mostly in is getting cars that I've found in Google Sketch-up to Torcs. I've got some tools to convert the various formats (from sketchup to kml import to blender) but I'm not really sure what to do from there to prep the car for torcs. I'm a complete novice in blender (which is probably why I'm not quite getting it), so if somebody has some detailed steps I can attempt, that would be great. Thanks, -- John Sturgeon <>< |

Hi Mansi, I was facing problems compiling plib from sources as well. What distro are you using? I would recommend using your package manager to install it from one of the repositories. Did the trick for me ;) On 5/31/07, Mansi Modi <man...@ho...> wrote: > > > to whomever it may concern, > > i am trying to install plib -1.8.3 on my linux system but i am > getting following error: > > ssgaSky.h:107: error: extra qualification 'ssgaCelestialBodyList::' on > member 'ssgaCelestialBodyList' > ssgaSky.h:195: error: extra qualification 'ssgaCloudLayerList::' on member > 'ssgaCloudLayerList' > make[2]: *** [ssgaCelestialBody.o] Error 1 > make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/modi/plib-1.8.3/src/ssgAux' > make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 > make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/modi/plib-1.8.3/src' > make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 > > any help regarding this error would be helpful > > thanks mansi > _________________________________________________________________ > News, entertainment and everything you care about at Live.com. Hello this is Justin Breithaupt, i.e. usacomputertec I want to use your project as a base and add to it. Do you think you could help me? My intentions our outlined here: http://thetuxproject.com/node/47. We don't want to steel your cars. We would like the free ones though and to make our own cars for the game. What do you say? Please. |
