Hi all, this was resolved by ungrading the graphics card. Must've been the elderly graphics card causing the problem, because as soon as I tried it with a ndvida gforce 4000, the problem disappeared. Thanks for the help - and a great game! hi all. attempting to build from sources on a windows machine. my problem is with this specific line from the readme: select the TORCS project and the w32-Release version I'm in the TORCS project, using VC++ 6.0 but what does the w32-Release version refer to? I'm pretty familiar with VC++ 6.0, but I have no idea what to select here. Any help? Also, when I have TORCS installed on my system from the sources, can I begin to build robots? Thanks. |

Hmm...No problem here on FreeBSD 5.3 (plib and FreeGLUT from ports; torcs compiled from source code with strndup fix; fluxbox 0.9.10). Only Fluxbox gives me true full screen though. XFCE and KDE exhibit the problem that you have described. I haven't been able to get sound working though. I hope OpenAL solves that. I'm no GL programming expert, but if I recall correctly, X and GLUT mutually exlussive when it comes to fullscreen. GLUT applications cannot render to the root window (full screen), and as such the way to get there should be with GL/glx. Only thing is that I don't kow how difficult would it to be to code glx for fullscreen and [Free]GLUT for windowed mode... I'll try to see if am successfull porting the existing [Free]GLUT code over to GLX to have it be able to properly handle fullscreen (I'm just a rookie, but I like challenges, and this would be one hell of a challenge). |

Try Fluxbox [http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/]. On 5/10/05, Gain Paolo Mureddu <the...@sl...> wrote: > I'm not able to switch to true full screen in GNOME nor XFCE. Hi all! Is there any source to get information about the algorithms used in the robots? I mean something like this from the RARS project: http://rars.sourceforge.net/selection/ If not, it would be nice if some people on the list will describe there own robots. :-) E.g. how works the K1999 robot? The berniw robot was already described here very short (http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=9585888), but beside this message I can't find anything. - Thanks for your answers! Then again I ignore how I do, but mostly because of the fullscreen issues, for the plans look at this (toward the end of the file): http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/torcs/torcs/torcs/README?rev=1.7&view=auto Bye, Bernhard. -- Visit my homepage http://www.berniw.org Official TORCS racing: The TORCS Racing Board, http://www.berniw.org/trb |

I'm not able to switch to true full screen in GNOME nor XFCE. The problem is that when maximized the window doesn't go above the panels, I have yet to try to KDE (just to rule out a GTK+ problem), though I bet it also does it, since it happened to me in fail proof session too... I think it is a problem with either GLUT code in the app or FreeGLUT. |

Ok, so I've read all the messages pertaining sound in the list
archives and I know that sound is handled by Plib and that it also
supplies some other functions like geometry libraries and stuff. In any
case, the problem I've got is the following: I wanted to play the game
with a custom music playlist playing in the bacground either in XMMS or
rhythmbox while I was playing, however I've found that the game volume
is quite higher than what I had expected it to be, I tried to look for
any sort of volume control in the .xml configuration files, and I could
not find any, is there a way to manipulate sound volume in TORCS?
And I want to also say to Eric and the rest of you, this is a GREAT
application. You've put a lot of effort into this! Just to add a bit to
what the FAQ says about SDL. There is another benefit from SDL that
neither GLUT nor Plib seems to be offering to the application, and that
is exacty sound control. Not only it can seemlessly use either ALSA or
OSS or whatever is available in the computer (like OpenAL), but it also
offeres advanced mixer and other capabilities... Or so they say in their
website. In any case, you may consider this. Then again I ignore how
does Plib handle sound events and how feasable is it to control things
like volume and stuff. Thanks again for this amazing game.
Gian.
