This is to report that this device works fine with Torcs under Linux.

Genius Speedwheel 3 SE (~$30)
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0458:3016 KYE Systems Corp. (Mouse Systems)

AXIS0-0 Left/right Wheel
AXIS1-0	Throttle/Brake

8 buttons. Works like a charm.

under Linux Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper

Calibration is needed:

sudo apt-get install joystick
jscal /dev/input/js0 -c
(follow instructions)

Then calibrate it again under torcs.

Now that we are in the youtube/video.google.com era, I was thinking that
I would like to create some bling-bling videos about torcs.

What is the capture mode that people has been more successful using?

You have to implement it yourself, currently it is not possible. It should be
trivial, add a directive to disable an effect in the car model xml file and pick
it up in the application. Then do not play the effect if it is disabled.

Is there any elegant way to disable the skid_metal.wav sound when racing

Ideally, I would like to have for all the other cars _but_ the F1's :)

and I was wondering if there is any list of wheel/joystick/other
devices that can be used to drive the car in torcs.

Maybe this is something that could be somewhere in the torcs website
(if it isn't already), so that when people have some money to burn on
gadgetry, they can check which device has been tested on torcs before
going shopping.
