Old gcc compilers and ./configure scripts need -lm added to CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS
eg. need (libm) CFLAGS=" ... -lm"  CXXFLAGS=" ... -lm"

Hello everyone,

my name is Robert Tasik and I am currently studying the master’s degree of applied computer science in Göttingen, Germany. At the present state, I want to start my master thesis in the area of autonomous driving with regards to deep learning. Therefore, I found your project "Gym-Torcs" to be suitable for my simulation foundation. As I started the instructions on https://github.com/imagry/Gym-Torcs-DQN to install all, I encountered some things, which I want to describe briefly. I am using a virtualized Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.

At https://github.com/imagry/Gym-Torcs-DQN, following the readme:


Point 1.2 of the readme states:


1.2 OpenAI-Gym (https://github.com/openai/gym)

  *   apt-get install -y python-numpy python-dev cmake zlib1g-dev libjpeg-dev xvfb libav-tools xorg-dev python-opengl libboost-all-dev libsdl2-dev swig

For me this does not work. Instead I solved this by replacing „libav-tools" with „ffmpeg“.


Point 2 of the readme:


2. Install gym-torcs 2.1 install vtorcs-RL-color dependencies

  *   sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libglu1-mesa-dev freeglut3-dev libplib-dev libopenal-dev libalut-dev libxi-dev libxmu-dev libxrender-dev libxrandr-dev libpng12-dev

For me this was not possible. The web tells me, that libpng12-dev is not supported anymore. I tried instead with libpng-12, which solved this step.

At step 2.2 i issued the command


  *   SRC_DIR=proto DST_DIR=. CPP_DST_DIR=vtorcs-RL-color/src/drivers/scr_server/; protoc -I=$SRC_DIR --cpp_out=$CPP_DST_DIR --python_out=$DST_DIR $SRC_DIR/car_state.proto


and received „[libprotobuf WARNING google/protobuf/compiler/parser.cc:547<http://parser.cc:547>] No syntax specified for the proto file: car_state.proto. Please use ’syntax = „proto2“;’ or ’syntax = „proto3“;’ to specify a syntax version. (Defaulted to proto2 syntax)“

I hope this is not a problem?

And then I tried step 2.2.1 to install vtorcs-RL-color and went to /gym-torcs/vtorcs-RL-color and tried to execute ./configure. Then i received that „Can’t find lib. Please check config.log and if you can’t solve the problem …“. Therefore, I have the config.log attached for you to further analyze. Can you please help me find the issue so that I am able to install and finally run the simulation? I would really love to apply this work for my master thesis. Thank you very much.
