Hi all, We (http://iglu-cat.net) are aiming to prepare a CD/DVD with a set of selected OSS games, and one of them, of course, will be TORCS. This CD/DVDs will be distributed, free of charge, in computer shops and schools in our area. I was wondering if all the data packages, for tracks, cars, and drivers, in TORCS, are redistributable without any problem. Thanks in advance, Bests, Albert. |

Possible problems: - Multiple OpenGL libraries installed and linked against software OpenGL implementation. - Multitexturing not supported in hardware, start with "torcs -s" to disable multitexturing. - Perhaps plib changed a texture setting (previous release used 1.6.0, now 1.8.3), matrox driver falls back to software (e.g. texture border). Driver limitations: http://dri.sourceforge.net/doc/DRIuserguide.html Bye, Bernhard. -- Visit my homepage http://www.berniw.org Official TORCS racing: The TORCS Racing Board, http://www.berniw.org/trb |

hello, i just installed torcs 1.2.3-bw-unofficial-test4. it is running fine except for the fact that i am getting very low fps (1-2 maybe) on 640x480 resolution. the game is playable from 360x200 down. iirc this was not the case w/ previous (non-test). i used to play the game on 640x480 flawlessly. other openGL using games (enemy territory) are working fine. If yes, please configure with "configure --enable-debug", rebuild and reinstall, and start torcs with "torcs -d" and post the backtrace. You can as well try to run it without multitexturing, "torcs -s". Possible reasons: - Not read the README and the FAQ. - Broken system setup. - Matrox driver bug. - plib 1.8.4 (it is just tested with 1.8.3). - Multiple incompatible GLU libraries on slackware. - Mix of libraries (64/32 bit, tls, no tls, etc) (what architecture??). - ... Thanks for the reply, I have just this past few minutes manage to install it on another Fedora Core 2 computer where the textures appear to be working properly.. Now I'll have to get at it and compare what's different between the two computers.. (Yum repository? something updated on one that's not on the other? hardware?) fun.. thanks for the reply.. I'll try out the AC3D stuff too.. |

Yes, but it's nice ;-)

The texture mapping is completely linked to the 3D object, so it's not
surprising that the textures for different cars look very different.
I recommend that you open the .ac files with AC3D and look at the texture
mapping, it will help you understand how it works.

I have seen one day on a laptop that the textures were broken in the game,
it was on Windows.
I don't remember the graphic card, but I did not found a proper
rotation/flip of the texture to get a correct mapping.
I suspect a problem in the OpenGl driver, try to update yours.
The screen-shot function was not even giving what was displayed...
Eric.

Hello all, I've just installed torcs onto Fedora Core 2 using yum, and I've been playing with it a little bit. One oddity is that the car textures are completely scrambled.. I opened up the .rgb cars, such as acura-nsx-sz.rgb or kc-gullwing.rgb and others. First I was confused that the nsx skin was really an rsx skin (???), and then was surprised to see a completely different layout in the kc-gullwing.rgb file. This game is obviously handling skins/textures very differently than I'm used to, but it all seems to be screwed up. I have checked about 6 cars now from historic, to rally, to what-have-you, and none of the skins/textures are showing up right. What's going on? Where have I gone wrong? Thanks much for any help! |

Hi all For those who are interested there is a new unofficial TORCS test release available, you find more information and the link on the TORCS page (www.torcs.org). The changes are not yet in the CVS, I will probably start merging back the "compatible" changes towards the end of February or beginning of March (there are CVS-incompatible changes which break simuv3, because the current CVS breaks simuv2...). Hi SpeedyChonChon > - Can we superimpose several textures ? For an exemple one for bump and > one for traces and shadows. Not that way exactly, but perhaps you can abuse the 2nd shadowmap as kind of camera position/direction indepenent bump map... Look at g-track-3 as example. > - I would like to edit cameras (for F8 and F9 and F11, I think) for my > track but even after the changes in .xml file there is only one camera > which is the one of F6. Hmm, did you use as track version 3 or 4? I think the earlier format did not support cameras around the track. > I see that some track use a section named "Track Segments" and others a > section named "segments". My one uses "segments" but when I put "Track > Segments" I have a segmentation fault. :-) Its all a bit touchy, yes... Hi all. - Can we superimpose several textures ? For an exemple one for bump and one for traces and shadows. - I would like to edit cameras (for F8 and F9 and F11, I think) for my track but even after the changes in .xml file there is only one camera which is the one of F6.
