Hi Jai A question, which TORCS version are you using? It makes way too much output, is it an older version? Hi Jai I tried it now on my Windows box (Windows 7 64 bit), here it is a bit more tricky, if you just hit the menu entry in the TORCS menu the track editor will (depending on your system settings and account type) not work. There are 2 ways to make it work: 1. Run trackeditor as Administrator 2. Run trackeditor as user, move the files manually, then run trackgen as administrator (in this scenario the track length calculation will not work IIRC) 1: On Windows 7 you have to run it as administrator, so do this: - Hit the Windows start button - In the search box type in "cmd" - In the presented box right click on cmd.exe and select "run as administrator", a cmd windows opens up - cd into the TORCS diectory "cd "Program Files (x86)\torcs"" - run from here trackeditor.bat - When creating a new track just select one on the presented choices under "browse", otherwise trackgen will not work 2. - Start track editor from menu, create the new project somewhere where you have write permissions - Save the xml there (you managed to do this, you have the files) - Copy the directory and contents to "Program Files (x86)\torcs\tracks\road" - Open a cmd as in 1. and cd to "Program Files (x86)\torcs" - Run "trackgen -c road -n Jai2" (without scenery) or "trackgen -c road -n Jai2 -a" (with scenery). Beware "trackgen" only works when the files are in the TORCS installation directory, so your "Jai2" directory has to be in the torcs/tracks/road directory. Best regards Bernhard On 09/30/2013 04:35 PM, Jai Prakash wrote: > Hi, > Can you tell me where should these files created? > After running trackgen you mean after exporting to AC3 or after running > this common "trackgen -c road -n try2 -a" > > As now i haven't got any ac files > > Jai > > > On Mon, Sep 30, 2013 at 7:45 PM, Bernhard Wymann <be...@bl... > <mailto:be...@bl...>> wrote: > > Hi > > I just checked under linux: trackgen works here, no problem, but the > output says this: > ... > Delta X = -442.229065 > Delta Y = -4.778198 > Delta Z = 0.000000 > ... > > So your start and end does not match, the inferno robot is then > completely confused, so maybe you have tried another bot which > crashed then on initialization (if you are off by some centimeters > it usually works, but is visually unpleasing, so you should make the > end match as good as you can)? > > Is the ac file generated in your case, after running trackgen I have > these files in Jai2: > -rw-r--r-- 1 berni users 4964568 Sep 30 16:07 Jai2.ac > -rw-r--r-- 1 berni users 1577 Sep 16 10:11 Jai2.prj.xml > -rw-r--r-- 1 berni users 4964568 Sep 30 16:07 Jai2-trk.ac > -rw-r--r-- 1 berni users 89853 Sep 30 2013 Jai2.xml > > Do you have these files too or is the .ac missing? > > Best regards > > Bernhard > > On 09/30/2013 03:56 PM, Jai Prakash wrote: > > Hi, > > PFA > > I tried to make tracks named jai2 in road category but it didn't > work.. > > Please suggest some solution... > > Thanks, > Regards, > Jai > > > ------------------------------__------------------------------__------------------ > October Webinars: Code for Performance > Free Intel webinars can help you accelerate application performance. > Explore tips for MPI, OpenMP, advanced profiling, and more. Hi I just checked under linux: trackgen works here, no problem, but the output says this: ... Delta X = -442.229065 Delta Y = -4.778198 Delta Z = 0.000000 ... So your start and end does not match, the inferno robot is then completely confused, so maybe you have tried another bot which crashed then on initialization (if you are off by some centimeters it usually works, but is visually unpleasing, so you should make the end match as good as you can)? Is the ac file generated in your case, after running trackgen I have these files in Jai2: -rw-r--r-- 1 berni users 4964568 Sep 30 16:07 Jai2.ac -rw-r--r-- 1 berni users 1577 Sep 16 10:11 Jai2.prj.xml -rw-r--r-- 1 berni users 4964568 Sep 30 16:07 Jai2-trk.ac -rw-r--r-- 1 berni users 89853 Sep 30 2013 Jai2.xml Do you have these files too or is the .ac missing? Yes, it would be possible, I had this on the schedule for 1.4.x when implementing a new bot which supports pro mode (-> rules, penalties, start modes, ...) and the 1.4 interface. There will be probably more 1.3.x releases, 1.3.6 and later will deal with adding the stuff which will need no interface changes and maybe an update of the Mac OS X port and integration of the MorphOS port changes, if there is demand there will be as well 1.3.x maintenance releases even after 1.4 is out. Best regards Bernhard |

Hello Bernhard, i tested with much Fun the new Version and can say :congratulation!! For more interesting Races I reduced the fuel-tank for all cars in a categorie to max. 30 litres, and so each driver has to make min. 1 pit-stop. But now I must see, that all berniw-drivers are not able to use pit-sharing and cannot finish the races. Is it possible to implement pit-sharing in the 3 bots ?? -- Erstellt mit Operas revolutionärem E-Mail-Modul: http://www.opera.com/mail/ |

Hi The most important thing is to use a development environment which can list/follow references and has a good debugger, I use under Windows (I guess you are under Windows because of the "26" projects) VS2008 with "Virtual Assist X" to navigate code faster, maybe VS2010 or later can do this equally good, I do not know. Under Linux I use usually an editor or IDE which supports "ctags" or a similar technology. For your case I recommend the following: - Read the TORCS FAQ, the researchers section (ReOneStep), have a look at the simulation timestep - Have a look at the file human.cpp, this is the "driver" which is driven by user input. - Have a look at the input setup, files are in src/libs/confscreens, I guess this is in the "client" project IIRC - Build a debug version, set breakpoints and inspect the callstack - You can generate some documents under Linux with "make doc", an old version is available here: http://www.berniw.org/aboutme/publications/api.tar.bz2 Your project sounds interesting, please post a link to the result then (if public available). Depending on your architecture you will not need to modify TORCS at all, e.g. you could consider writing a "hid" driver for your input device (you will need the Microsoft Driver Development Kit/SDK, but Universities have those things usually available), so it would appear to TORCS as any other input device, then you could use your interface as well for any sort of application (other racing games, jump and run, whatever...). Hello All I am working in torcs for my final B.Tech Project. I am using the emotiv neuroheadset to drive the car using our mind. Actually, I need to make emotiv to be able to communicate with torcs. Emotiv will send the data to torcs to drive the car. I need the documentation of source code to understand all the 26 projects and to understand how the torcs works. I am getting lost whenever I read the code to understand it. Can you suggest me how can I do it? -- Khushali modi B. Tech. 3rd Year CSE IIT Mandi |

Hello, the link to the cityscape driving simulator looks very interesting. I didn't find any code or examples to run, but I'll try to contact the post's author. Hi Janito Currently not, but some people added this for their projects (e.g. see here: http://www.onecircuit.com/node/87 ). Depending on your requirements/experiment you could eventually just try to make a very broad track (e.g. 200-1000 m or so..., but never tried this before, widest by me so far was 30m, but I guess it would work;-) ). Hello, You shouldn't close the window. The errors you get are from the drawing functions that can't draw on a window. If you want to use only the console, type in a command line: wtorcs.exe -r config/raceman/dtmrace.xml Eventually change dtmrace.xml into something different Best regards, Quinten 2013/9/18 BRIAN MARTIN Owner <bri...@ce...>: > > Thank you for your help and prompt responses. > > > > I started fresh with a new torcs source directory and followed the > directions > > more carefully this time. Hello, I'm interested on using TORCS for playing with some collision avoidance algorithms, and one scenario would be to simulate a crossway. Does TORCS support tracks that have intersections in them (like a track in an 8 arrangement)? Thanks in advance, Janito |

Hi Bernhard,
i have got the same problem. After a random amount of time the car
is approximately 5m in the air. I
have tried several cars and followed your instructions with the bump
/rebound values.
When I try your code from the tutorial in the drive method
car->ctrl.brakeCmd = roundTo1tenth(getBrake(car));
if (car->ctrl.brakeCmd == 0.0) {
car->ctrl.accelCmd = roundTo1tenth(getAccel(car));
action = car->ctrl.accelCmd;
} else {
car->ctrl.accelCmd = 0.0;
action = -car->ctrl.brakeCmd;
}
the car is not flying.
When I replace this part of code with mine:
if(action < 0.0 ){
car->ctrl.accelCmd = 0.0;
car->ctrl.brakeCmd = -action;
}else{
car->ctrl.brakeCmd = 0.0;
car->ctrl.accelCmd = action;
}
where action is a float between -1(brake) and +1(throttle).
I have no idea why the car is flying.
I am using torcs 1.3.4 and the car acura-nsx-sz or car1-stock1.
Perhaps you can help me...

Thank you for your help and prompt responses. I started fresh with a new torcs source directory and followed the directions more carefully this time. I did need to change the torcs.rc file as recommen ded. Torcs now builds and runs. Although torcs seems to run correctly, I do get a _lot_ of the following messages on the terminal when I close the torcs window: cGrScreen::update glDisable(GL_DEPTH_TEST) invalid operation cGrScreen::update display boards invalid operation refresh: start invalid operation grDrawBackground: ssgCullAndDraw start invalid operation grDrawBackground: ssgCullAndDraw invalid operation cggrDrawCar: start invalid operation cggrDrawCar: end invalid operation cggrDrawCar: start invalid operation cggrDrawCar: end invalid operation cggrDrawCar: start invalid operation cggrDrawCar: end invalid operation cggrDrawCar: start invalid operation cggrDrawCar: end invalid operation cggrDrawCar: start invalid operation cggrDrawCar: end invalid operation refresh: ssgCullAndDraw start invalid operation refresh: ssgCullAndDraw invalid operation This problem also occurs with the pre-built torcs. Could all these messages be affecting my frame rate? (The frame rate seems to be ok) I am running windows 8 amd a8-6500 apu with radeon graphics (x 4) amd radeon hd 8570D display adapter (driver is up to date, according to windows) The above information came from device manager (the documentation that came with this computer is utterly useless) Thanks again! |

Hello, Can you please include the error you get? With that I (or someone else) are better able to help you. Anyway, try to open torcs.rc in a text editor (notepad ;)) There, find 'afxres.h' and replace it with 'windows.h' (without braces). Hi Brian Beware, you have to follow the steps in the README exactly. 1.3.4 is known to work with VS 2010 (not Express), see here: http://channel9.msdn.com/coding4fun/blog/Torquing-it-up-with-TORCS-The-Open-Racing-Car-Simulator The suggested change there went into 1.3.4. So I guess you have similar trouble like VS 2008 Express, see the latest README, section 5.1: http://torcs.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/torcs/torcs/torcs/README?revision=1.92.2.142&view=markup&pathrev=r1-3-1 112 5.1.3 VS 2008 Express, reported by Stacey Pritchett: 113 - in wtorcs -> Source Files (Solution explorer) exclude torcs.rc Please report back even if it worked for future reference, if it does not work, please post some compiler/linker output or what went wrong exactly, I guess the solution is just a few mouse clicks away... I am having trouble building torcs with express c++ 2010. Has anyone out there built torcs successfully with this version of express? Thanks for any help. |

Hi First, I have never compiled TORCS on cygwin, there are Windows native project files available (which you can use with the "free" Visual Studio Express Editions with some 5 minute adoptions, see README). Nontheless, lets see... configure:5948: g++ -o conftest.exe -g -O2 -Wall -fPIC -fno-strict-aliasing -O2 -DUSE_RANDR_EXT -DGL_GLEXT_PROTOTYPES conftest.cpp -lXxf86vm -lXmu -lXi -lXt -lSM -lICE -lXext -lX11 -lm >&5 conftest.cpp:1:0: warning: -fPIC ignored for target (all code is position independent) /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-cygwin/4.5.3/../../../../i686-pc-cygwin/bin/ld: cannot find -lXxf86vm From that I guess that you linker is not able to find the library, maybe some of the configure related linker options could help (e.g. something like --x-libraries=/usr/lib/). Run ./configure --help for the list of options. Here I explained my approach to nail down such problems (just in case you are interested): http://sourceforge.net/p/torcs/mailman/message/30193739/ Best regards Bernhard On 09/17/2013 11:17 AM, Rene Hanna wrote: > > While compiling TORCS1.3.4 on Cygwin - i get the following error code- > > checking for XF86VidModeSetViewPort in -lXxf86vm... no > configure: error: Can't find libXxf86vm. Hi Schnuck Thank you for the report:-) Currently it runs on one single core apart from the sound processing with OpenAL, this runs in another thread. But with "only" 15 cars the graphics card is the limiting factor usually, switching off the rear mirror, reducing the visibility and setting wheel rendering to simple might help most. Alternatively you could get/use low poly car models (e.g. from ancient TORCS versions). I guess the "hidden window" thing was desired to avoid noise/power consumption. Are you aware that you can run TORCS in command line mode without GUI whatsoever (see FAQ, researchers section)? You could make the glutIdleFunc point to "reDisplay" in racegl.cpp during the race, this would then keep the processing running (when the window is hidden the postRedisplay just marks the window with "requires redraw", so no event is generated and TORCS "stalls"). To find the proper place to add this just find the place where glutDisplayFunc is set for entering and exiting the race, so adding just 2 lines of code might do the trick. Everybody else: Is it a common demand to change this behaviour? Hope this helps Bernhard On 09/13/2013 01:33 PM, Schnuck68 wrote: > > Hello Torcs-User, > > Sorry for the subject, it's probably not the best description of my > requests. > > First of all I'd like to point out that it was just a question of running > 'configure && make && make install' to get the new version to compile > on Mageia 3 Linux with a 3.8.13 kernel on my Asus laptop with a Nvidia GC. > > Still there's a question left: Is it possible to compile it to run on more > than one core? > > It uses one of eight cores and runs on it with 55 to 60 fps if I race on > E-track-6 for example. Hello Torcs-User, Sorry for the subject, it's probably not the best description of my requests. First of all I'd like to point out that it was just a question of running 'configure && make && make install' to get the new version to compile on Mageia 3 Linux with a 3.8.13 kernel on my Asus laptop with a Nvidia GC. Still there's a question left: Is it possible to compile it to run on more than one core? It uses one of eight cores and runs on it with 55 to 60 fps if I race on E-track-6 for example. I am able to race fluently against 10 or 12 opponents, but it gets "jumpy" if I try to configure 15 or more opponents at once. Also I always recognized that the running race stops, if I switch away from the virtual desktop the visual/window is on. I guess this is a desired behaviour. I sometimes let some robots race against each others and then I switch to some other virtual desktop to work on something else for a minute. But the race stops if I do that. Is there a way to change this? I'd like it to run unattended for a while. Thank you for your time.
