Is there a windows source I can get a hold of? I only see source for linux. I would like to build a windows version of the game with a driver to my 3d goggles built in. Please let me know if this is possible. =20 =20 Ethan Schur |

I have no idea what=B4s wrong without more information, but you can try t=
he
following things:
- try to disable sound in the sound menu of torcs.
- play with different color depths/resolutions.
- try to uninstall/install TORCS.
- update graphics/sound drivers
You can get more information if you start TORCS from a console ("dos box"=
),
copy the whole output and send it. Perhaps your Windows system log contai=
ns
as well some hints. If you can solve the problem please let us know as we=
ll,
perhaps another user gets hit by the same problem.
Bye, Bernhard.

Hi all, I downloaded torcs-1.2.3 over the weekend for Windows and have it running fine on an P4 xp laptop, but am having a hard time getting it going on a 800Mhz W2k box. I can get it all the way to the 'run race' (quick race), and the console seems to get to 'ready', and then a error message pops up, and disappears real quick. The message box seems to say something about an error log being written somewhere, but I can't find it. When I start torcs from a command console, there doesn't seem to be anything amiss that shows up there. Any help appreciated. -- cheers, Bruce |

Hm, strange, since realloc(NULL, size) should be exactly the same

Hi Stephen > my C pointer skills are horrible, so this is going to take time for us to resolve. Any help appreciated :) If nobody else does fix it, I will, but not anytime soon... Btw., who is "us"? > We may end up trying a debug malloc routine such as http://dmalloc.com/ I would recommend using valgrind, but I do not know if something like this or valgrind (valgrind.kde.org) itself works on Windows. It is really a great tool:-) Bye, Bernhard. -- Visit my homepage http://www.berniw.org Official TORCS racing: The TORCS Racing Board, http://www.berniw.org/trb |

Howdy,
There may be more problems lurking here... but a temporary hack we coded seems to got us past the crashing.
changing the realloc to use malloc on the first try...
int temp1 = curGrp->maxsurf * sizeof(struct surf);
if(curGrp->surfaces == 0x0)
{
curGrp->surfaces = (struct surf *)malloc(temp1);
}
else
{
curGrp->surfaces = (struct surf *)realloc(curGrp->surfaces, temp1);
}
my C pointer skills are horrible, so this is going to take time for us to resolve. Any help appreciated :)
We may end up trying a debug malloc routine such as http://dmalloc.com/

Hi Stephen > On Windows XP I get a crash trying to use trackgen to build tracks. I crashes even if I try to rebuild one of the existing tracks. Command-line > I'm using: > > trackgen -c dirt -n dirt-1 -a The bug is known, or at least a very similar one: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1153669&group_id=3777&atid=103777 Please fill in your experience there as well, thank you for the report. > Given it crashes in identical console output on both the pre-compiled download and my own compiled version... something wrong with this > code? Anyone able to confirm and suggest some fixes? The tools are generally very "touchy" and use to crash if something is not exactly like it ought to be, altough they most often work at least on Linux. There is a lot of room for improvment. If nobody else fixes the problem I will probably have a look into it for 1.2.5, for 1.2.4 there is a lot of other stuff to do, we will see. Hi,
On Windows XP I get a crash trying to use trackgen to build tracks. I crashes even if I try to rebuild one of the existing tracks. Command-line
I'm using:
trackgen -c dirt -n dirt-1 -a
It crashes after console output:
1005 Nodes
Renum Nodes, Triangles, Sides
So I downloaded the source and managed to get trackgen compiled with Visual Studio 2003 C++ compiler... and I get the same crash... so
appears to be a code problem? I added some debug statements and found out that the line causing the crash is located:
easymesh.cpp, method insert_elem_in_group
/* insert the surface */
if (curGrp->nbsurf == curGrp->maxsurf) {
if (curGrp->nbsurf == 0) {
ActiveGroups++;
}
curGrp->maxsurf += SURF_INCR;
curGrp->surfaces = (struct surf *)realloc(curGrp->surfaces, curGrp->maxsurf * sizeof (struct surf));
}
The crash happens on the final line where it calls realloc.
Given it crashes in identical console output on both the pre-compiled download and my own compiled version... something wrong with this
code? Anyone able to confirm and suggest some fixes?
Thank you.

Does anybody know if this site: http://user.it.uu.se/~johannd/projects/ff/doc.shtml Is the best place when looking for ffb wheels that work in Linux? It seems that the iforce drivers are part of the standard kernel since some time ago, but I haven't found but this place about tested hardware, and it seems quite old. Bests, Albert. |

Hi Kevin - Thanks for the pointer. Using the flags described on the fink page I was able to (after making some fairly minor changes to the source) compile all of the libraries as loadable modules. I am now getting the error pasted below. I played around a little, and ld is looking for libracescreens.dylib,librobottools.dylib, etc... This seems to suggest that I should build them as shared libraries using the '-dynamiclib' flag, but this is what caused the compilation to fail originally. Essentially I can only build these libraries as loadable modules, but 'ld' seems to be looking for shared libraries. Is there a way to resolve this? I have tried passing a few other options to the linker suggested by various web sources, but nothing has worked so far. I don't have a lot of experience with these types of issues, so I appologize if I'm missing something obvious. Thanks. I, too, passed the first error with: ./configure --x-libraries=/usr/lib but my sticking point is now in make, seems to be something to do with plib and maybe 64 bit mode: g++ -shared -o libclient.so entry.o mainmenu.o splash.o exitmenu.o optionmenu.o -L/home/mike/torcs-1.2.3/export/lib -L/usr/lib -L/usr/lib -lplibssg-lplibsg -lplibul /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.2/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: /usr/lib/libplibssg.a(ssg.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC /usr/lib/libplibssg.a: could not read symbols: Bad value collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[4]: *** [libclient.so] Error 1 I am using Glut3.7 not freeGlut (compatibility issues with amd64 for freeglut, according to gentoo) - so maybe that's why we have different errors. --- Rafa Casado <ra...@gm...> wrote: > On Thu, 10 Mar 2005 23:47:07 -0800 (PST), Joe Merchant > <joe...@ya...> wrote: > > Hi, > > Hi, > > > I just got around to trying to install TORCS-1.2.3, > > > > I have a Gentoo-2.6.9-r14 kernel for athlon64, built stage3 from > the > > latest (2004.3-r1.iso) universal distro CD image. Hi, I just got around to trying to install TORCS-1.2.3, I have a Gentoo-2.6.9-r14 kernel for athlon64, built stage3 from the latest (2004.3-r1.iso) universal distro CD image. I was recently down for a week while I sorted out an --update world issue with my nvidia drivers, but that's another story - the system is now rebuilt "from scratch" from that CD image. I have all the dependancies installed (only needed to add plib), but when I ./configure torcs, I get: checking for plib/ssg.h... yes checking for sin in -lm... no configure: error: Can't find libm. Please check config.log and if you can't solve the problem send the file to tor...@li... with the subject "torcs compilation problem" http://packages.gentoo.org/ doesn't seem to know about libm, for amd64 or any other system? config.log is attached, the error is a little odd: configure:5956: g++ -o conftest -g -O2 -Wall -fPIC -O2 -DUSE_RANDR_EXT -L conftest.cc -lm >&5 /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.2/../../../../lib/crt1.o(.text+0x21): In function `_start': : undefined reference to `main' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status to my eyes, there is an extra semicolon in the test code that does not need to be there: | char sin (); | int | main () | { | sin (); | ; | return 0; | } What do I need? Hi Michael > first question being how do i compile Torcs files into an EXE using > Microsoft Visual C++? Currently simuv2 offers more physical stability and better performance, 1.2.3 is only tested and set up (the cars) with simuv2. The DOF's are limited and it is not very good on high banked tracks. simuv3 offers more features (e.g. tire wear and temp) and is going towards full 3D, there are some issues to resolve. Bryan, Mac OS X makes a distinction between 'shared libraries' and 'loadable modules' whereas on Linux and Windows they're the same. The linking flags are different between the two, so you have to determine how the executable is going to be used in order to set the flags correctly. The easiest way to distinguish between the two usages is 'shared libraries' are automatically loaded and linked on your behalf by the system and never unloaded, whereas 'loadable modules' are explicitly loaded and unloaded by the program. Here are the different command line flags for the two types of executables. Shared library: -dynamiclib (as you mentioned below) Loadable module: -bundle -flat_namespace -undefined suppress See the 'Fink' documentation pages at http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/porting/shared.php I had torcs running about a year ago on OS X (10.2?), but I haven't had time to play with it recently. I remember almost everything was a loadable module, so try using the other options to see if that gets you any closer. However the CVS version always had problems with fullscreen for some reason. I remember that I've been working solely on the simu for some time and I was just installing that, but as soon as I needed to recompile everything and install, I had problems.. was some TORCS release statically linked with some particular *GLUT? Maybe freeglut with your patches? Maybe we should make a list of the problems and put them on the torcs website, so that people know that if you have X symptom then it is with the library, otherwise it is an unknown bug .. For example, currently if TORCS crashes in fullscreen mode the screen does not revert to the original resolution. Also, fullscreen forces the gnome-panel to resize itself for some reason, which I recall did not happen with some previous version of TORCS. Is this a common problem or is it just me? I guess it's the libraries because if I change from freeglut to glut I get a different problem :) [screen becomes moveable, IIRC] -- Christos Dimitrakakis IDIAP (http://www.idiap.ch/~dimitrak/main.html) |

Yes, 320x240, 640x480 and 800x600 are always in the list (because the windowed and fullscreen list is not separated at the moment). > Changing resolution with xrandr also works like expected. > >> >>> 800x600 or smaller and enable fullscreen mode, the resolution of the >>> display is not changed, i only see a smaller game window on my display. And the command line tool works, thats weird, because TORCS does quite the same things like the command line tool does. Is perhaps your window manager somehow able to capute and prevent a successful switch? If you want just to use your native resolution you can try to compile it with --without-xrandr. >> Sounds like you have no XRANDR support or you use a CVS FreeGLUT... >> just for fun try "normal" glut and make sure you have XRANDR support. >> > > I have mesaglut installed and also the binary drivers from ATI for my > graphics card (radeon 9600). The fullscreen issue is a big mess and should be solved in the libraries, but in GLUT it is not possible because of its license and the FreeGLUT people are not very interested in fullscreen (I sent a patch ages ago, but nobody reviewd/fixed/applied it).
