Hi, (how) is it possible to let the robot restart the current race whenever i= t wishes so? I cannot find any function which will do this; I can only find a robot callback which is called whenever the race is started and ended. What I would like is whenever a certain number of laps is passed, the robot gets stuck, damaged too much, stops learning, etc., the race is stopped and restarted with max. fuel and a clean car and starting position. Thanks in advance, St=E9phan |

I've played around with creating a track or two with the editor but this explains a lot of features I'd ignored. I'll have to dig out my previous work on Oulton Park and try to complete it. Many thanks! Toby Haynes |

I give you some comments when I have the time to make a track. it would be nice to have it in html though, pdf is so bloated and it's fixed format really defeats the all the benefits of html being able to display the page on different hardware. pdf always seems such a battle to read and never as clear text as a browser. IMHO pdf has it's uses for contractual documents but this sort of thing is more suited to html. thanks again for the effort. |

Simuv3? > >From the torque curve I've seen, it seems that in most cars it is pretty flat in the usable range and then starts dropping dramatically near the maximum power. However, who know if this was the case with older cars. For simuv3, if you want the car to start more easily you need a bigger inertia for the engine if your engine has a very low torque near idle. However that will cause you problems when breaking: you'll have to apply more brakes to the rear wheels when the gear is small in order to account for the larger effective engine inertia - setting up the brakes will be tricky. A large inertia can also cause problems when changing gears. Do not worry about the air resistance. It will remain the same. However, the downforce might change. Furthermore, the limited slip differential's implementation was broken and it was behaving more like a blocking differential. It is now changed in simuv3 and that may have a large impact, especially in pro mode. Christos |

Hi. Attachments didnt work...
After mulling on the car characteristics in the game
and experimenting a little with the Ferrari 330 P4 I
have reached the following conclusion:
The air resistance is too high.
To give a car a decent top speed requires a very
strong engine that gives the car an enormous
acceleration and in some cases a too high top speed
also.
I tried earlier to correct the Austin-Healey by
modifying the torque curve but it only resulted in a
slightly absurd curve. I'm not satisfied with that
solution any longer.
Here follows my attempt at correcting the Ferrari 330
P4. At the start the car accelerates like fired out of
a cannon yet it fails to reach it's given top speed of
320 km/h. I believe the right way to go is to give the
engine a torque curve approximating reality and
regulate the top speed by changing the:
<section name="Aerodynamics">
<attnum name="Cx" val="0.1"/>
Cx value. In this way both acceleration and top speed
will be good approximation of the real car. In some
cases the front and rear wings can be used to change
the characteristics of a car, if necessary, introduce
them.
For the Ferrari I created a torque curve more or less
out of the blue and used the wings to create the
handling I wanted.
What kind of car did I want? A car that uses a good
looking torque curve that is close to the values given
and reaches the given top speed with a sane accelerat
ion. I also wanted a car that handles as I fantasy it
should.
The top speed should be 320 km/h and the 0-100
acceleration something fast. The handling should be
good if as long as you don't push too hard. Let go of
the accelerator in a curve and the rear skids. Floor
it at the exit and you loose the rear. Give a little
gas during a turn and you are safe. That's about it.
This works under simuv2. Depending on what happens
with simuv3 some changes have to be made:
If the air resistance changes the Cx value must be
modified for the top speed and the wings for the
characteristics.
If the inertia of the engine changes the gearing may
have to change for the start to work.
No changes should be made to the torque or the top
gear.
As I don't consider this to be the gospel according to
Kennet I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. What
about the performance? What about the characteristics?
My reasoning? Simuv3?
Why do I do this? I love torcs, it's great fun, but I
believe some things could be a little better. I've
also read that the open source prefer suggestions to
solutions to pure whining, so here is my attempt (to a
solution, not whining...).
The changes:
<attnum name="front-rear weight repartition"
val="0.45"/>
The car got larger engines during it's evolution and
from the pictures it looks as it should have the CG
slightly aft. Besides, this helps giving the
characteristics I seek.
<section name="Exhaust">
I believe this car should have these.
<section name="Aerodynamics">

characteristics are final. The program complains but
accepts.
<attnum name="front Clift" val="0.65"/>
0.65 better than 0.6? Nah, but I tested the car with
that value and I don't dare to change if that would
break something else.
<attnum name="rear Clift" val="0.5"/>
Should really be much closer to 0 but the car is
impossible to drive then.
<section name="Front Wing">
Is the front wing the area over the radiator? If so I
tried to estimate the area and got ~0.5 m².

on...
How good torque curves could the design during the
60's? I hope this is a reasonable approximation. The
values are not terribly important anyway.
I also hope the values ar correct. 336 kW at 8000 rpm,
and it seems as Ferrari engines from that era have
maximum torque 2000 rpm below maximum power.
