Hi Bernhard, Thanks for your email. i cleared TORCS_BASE or MAKE_DEFAULT(saw one of the earlier posts about it in the archives). TrackEditor is a java software. You can download it there: http://www.berniw.org/trb/index.php?page=downloads Un-tar it, cd to it then run ./trackeditor.sh to launch it. Hi, In my installation of Torcs on my windows-run pc at work I found the trackeditor, but at home I use Ubuntu and installed Torcs simply with the add/remove function. I cannot find the TrackEditor anywhere on my system. I have been browsing the web for days for an answer, but cannot seem to find it. How/where can I find the trackeditor? greets Bart _________________________________________________________________ Deel gratis je vakantiefoto's met al je vrienden! http://spaces.live.com |

Hi,
I would like to know how to compute the length of curves.
For example, in mycircuit.xml, I have this:
<section name="curve 1">
<attstr name="type" val="rgt" />
<attnum name="arc" unit="deg" val="21.0" />
<attnum name="radius" unit="m" val="189.0" />
<attnum name="end radius" unit="m" val="156.0" />
<attnum name="z start" unit="m" val="0" />
<attnum name="z end" unit="m" val="0.5" />
<attstr name="surface" val="asphalt2-lines" />
I've used the trackeditor in Java to create my circuit.
When "radius"="end radius" (the radius is constant), then there is no
"end radius" attribute and the length of the curve is easy to compute:
2 x pi x radius x arc / 360
What is the equation in the source code to make the radius change from
radius to end radius, when they are different (i.e., "end radius"
exists)?
Well, whatever the equation, what I need is how to compute the length of
such curve.
I have the feeling that simply taking
("radius" + "end radius")/2
instead of "radius" will not give accurate results.
Is the equation used a clothoid? (or cornu spiral)
It seems to be used often to make roads in real life
cf.:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornu_spiral#Cornu_spiral
In French:
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clothoïde
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracé_en_plan_d'une_route
If so, how to compute the arc length knowing the start and end radius?
Reason why I need this:
I'm modeling a real mountain road (going to Chamrousse from Vaulnavey,
near Grenoble, in the French Alps), using aerial view. The altitude (z
start/z end) of each segemnt is very hard to measure accurately. But I
have ideas on how to estimate the slope of the road (in degrees) on the
real road (using a plumb-bob and a protractor printed on paper). Once I
have this, I need the length of each segment of my model to be able to
compute the altitude.
I've made a script (not the best one, with R (statistical software) and
sed...) to read these values then change "z end" and "z start" values.
Thanks for any help!

Hi!
I have a similar problem: My wheel works with jstest and supertuxkart, but not with Torcs in Fedora 7 and Fedora 8.
I have sent a message to this mailing list on 23.2.2008 17:41:34 ("torcs does not recognize a wheel (or joystick)") and I have reported this in Fedora Bugzilla as well, see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=433503 - but the problem is still open.
Can anybody help?
Regards, JJ

I tried to setup it > using "Control Configuration" in Torcs (on Linux) but it doesn't seem > to see any scroll events (only keyboard, mouse move, and three mouse > buttons events are available). By somewhat following what's happening currently on Linux Input mailing list (Input devices drivers and associated kernel code), I'm quite sure that some developpements are still to be done or tested about that kind of device ... So it may not be a surprise if you can't see any "Horizontal Edge Scroll" in Torcs ... as even your kernel can't see them ;-) For more information, please dig into : - http://www.mail-archive.com/lin...@at... - and may be also http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-input%40vger.kernel.org/ Hope this helps. Hi, Aravind. As for your compilation errors, here are some tips : - if I remember well, the Torcs web site give a link to a source distribution of OpenAL that was modified for Torcs (don't know how and why, but this is the version I use with no trouble on a Mandriva 2008.0 x86_64 gcc 4.2.2rc) ; do you use this version of OpenAL ? > /usr/local/include/AL/alc.h:70: error: '<anonymous>' has incomplete type > /usr/local/include/AL/alc.h:70: error: invalid use of 'ALCvoid' - I patched OpenAL to fix this, the following way : include/AL/alctypes.h : replace "typedef void ALCVoid;" by "#define ALCVoid" when C++ compiler : #ifdef __cplusplus__ # define ALCvoid #else typedef void ALCvoid; #endif - warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to 'char*' I've got these warnings everywhere compiling Torcs, and we should find a fix for it, but this is only warning for the moment, so, you can ignore it ... As for your run-time error : > But my installation is missing a setup_linux.sh. When I run torcs(the > torcs library and executable are installed correctly), I get the > following message :- > > //usr/local/lib/torcs/setup_linux.sh file does not exist, check your > installation./ This is strange ... setup_linux.sh is normally created by the makefile (see "linuxsetup" target in Makefile, and associted sub-targets in Make-default.mk ...) Did you try a from scratch build again ? make distclean make cleanconfig ./configure --prefix=... make make install make datainstall Hope this helps. Jean-Philippe. |

Hi, Jonathan. > We bought a San Fransisco Rush arcade cabinet (like this one > ... the cabinet gives us all the controls we need and then some. The > pedals, wheel, and button inputs will be sent to a PIC microcontroller > connected via a serial cable to a desktop which will be placed in the > cabinet. > > I'd like to know if there's already a serial interface for TORCS or, if > there isn't, the most painless way to go about creating one. If any one has > any ideas or inputs, I'd love to hear from you. Actually, Torcs is not directly reading controlers input at the hardware level. It uses Plib (http://plib.sourceforge.net), and its "js" sub-system, to read any input from joystick controlers (and friends, like wheels, pedals, shifters, and so on). So, to my mind, you'll have to write a serial driver for you cabinet PIC controler ... and it should work ! If you are developping under Linux, writing a driver should not be so hard now, as there are many tutorials about that ... even if this is still "writing a device driver" ;-) Under Windows, I really don't know at all. Hope this helps. But fear it won't be "painless" ... Jean-Philippe. |

Just to let you know, you can install torcs by simply clicking this link ( click <apt:torcs>) or searching for it in applications - add/remove. |

hi all, i am trying to install For Linux and FreeBSD from sources (all in one package)<http://torcs.sourceforge.net/index.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=3#linux-src-all>on an ubuntu (hardy heron) machine. i've installed all the required software and completed the setup. I got a couple of make errors and make install -but those were related to sound I guess. *make errors **In file included from TorcsSound.h:30, from SoundInterface.h:44, from CarSoundData.cpp:20: /usr/local/include/AL/alc.h:70: error: '<anonymous>' has incomplete type /usr/local/include/AL/alc.h:70: error: invalid use of 'ALCvoid' In file included from CarSoundData.cpp:20: SoundInterface.h: In member function 'virtual void PlibSoundInterface::setGlobalGain(float)': SoundInterface.h:260: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to 'char*' SoundInterface.h: In member function 'virtual void OpenalSoundInterface::setGlobalGain(float)': SoundInterface.h:305: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to 'char*' make[5]: *** [CarSoundData.o] Error 1 make[4]: *** [subdirs] Error 1 make[3]: *** [subdirs] Error 1 make[2]: *** [subdirs] Error 1 make[1]: *** [subdirs] Error 1 make: *** [restart] Error 2 *With *make install*, i get the following messages:- *In file included from TorcsSound.h:30, from SoundInterface.h:44, from CarSoundData.cpp:20: /usr/local/include/AL/alc.h:70: error: '<anonymous>' has incomplete type /usr/local/include/AL/alc.h:70: error: invalid use of 'ALCvoid' In file included from CarSoundData.cpp:20: SoundInterface.h: In member function 'virtual void PlibSoundInterface::setGlobalGain(float)': SoundInterface.h:260: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to 'char*' SoundInterface.h: In member function 'virtual void OpenalSoundInterface::setGlobalGain(float)': SoundInterface.h:305: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to 'char*' make[4]: *** [CarSoundData.o] Error 1 make[3]: *** [installdirs] Error 1 make[2]: *** [installdirs] Error 1 make[1]: *** [installdirs] Error 1 make: *** [installdirs] Error 1 * Followed by make install, I do a make datainstall. But my installation is missing a setup_linux.sh. When I run torcs(the torcs library and executable are installed correctly), I get the following message :- */usr/local/lib/torcs/setup_linux.sh file does not exist, check your installation.* My tarball doesn't have this 'setup_linux.sh' file anywhere - I tried a locate and couldn't find it. What could be the problem here? Could I be having a corrupted version of torcs-1.3.0.tar.bz2 or is this some other problem? thanks for your valuable advice aravind |

Hey all, A little background on my project... I'm an EE student and as part of a controls and instrumentation course, my group of four has to create a racing simulator game for the local children's hospital. We are using TORCS and the design of the of the actual controls and interface needs to tread a line between fun to use and somewhat realistic. We bought a San Fransisco Rush arcade cabinet (like this one http://www.arcadewarehouse.com/Content/Images/358/San%20Francisco%20Rush.jpg ) with a non-functioning main board and harddrive for $100. We are on a tight budget but the cabinet gives us all the controls we need and then some. The pedals, wheel, and button inputs will be sent to a PIC microcontroller connected via a serial cable to a desktop which will be placed in the cabinet. I'd like to know if there's already a serial interface for TORCS or, if there isn't, the most painless way to go about creating one. If any one has any ideas or inputs, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks Jon |

Hi, Is it possible to use "Horizontal Edge Scroll" of the synaptics (or similar) touchpad as a steering wheel control? I tried to setup it using "Control Configuration" in Torcs (on Linux) but it doesn't seem to see any scroll events (only keyboard, mouse move, and three mouse buttons events are available). I imagine that using "horizontal scroll" could work much better than keyboard or mouse and perhaps as well as an external joystick. Cheers, -r. |
