Hi all The final chapter of the robot tutorial is available in the torcs section on http://n.ethz.ch/student/hwymann. It shows you how to implement pit stops. Bye, have fun, bernhard. -- visit my homepage http://n.ethz.ch/student/hwymann |

Hi > cars and tracks in Torcs. Is this at all possible? A little introduction how to create tracks has been posted here: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.games.torcs.devel/17 It is not as complex as you might think at the beginning, in fact it took me around 3 hours to make myself familiar with track editing. The only mistery for me at the moment are the relief maps and accc. If you want to create a real stunning track I think it is quite a lot of work, but if you just want to create a road to drive with default materials then it is quite easy. There is also a track editor in development, how far is it now, Eric? bye, have fun, bernhard. -- visit my homepage http://n.ethz.ch/student/hwymann |

There are no error messages.
May be you are running your desktop at 8 or 16 bit per pixels, try to change it
to 24 bpp or 32 bpp.
For the hang... may be the program crashes and the video driver is not
able to get back to correct behaviour.

Also, in the pure source build, I have to delete from modules/graphic/ssggraph/grmain.h the definitions which define glActiveTextureARB as glActiveTexture etc. because I do have the *ARB routines on my system and not the other ones.
May be your GL/gl.h include is not corresponding to the OpenGL driver you
have on your system.
There were problems like this with Nvidia RPMs.

Hello, from the webpages TORCS looks like an excellent simulation, but I had very limited success running it on my machine: either the game is unplayable, or it hangs the PC. I have an Athlon 1000 with a Matrox 450 (DRI enabled) running SuSE Linux 8.1, XFree86 4.2.0. The first thing I tried is the SuSE binary rpm (although it is not the latest version of the game): it runs extremely poorly, with a frame rate of 1 or 2 fps, plus the speedometer and other gauges are all uniformly grey therefore illegible. And when I go back to the game menus, the text is all grey too, not red and yellow as at the beginning. Then I tried the source rpm, again provided by B. Kaindl: rebuilt the package, I got the same exact result as the binary rpm. At least the thing is consistent... Next I downloaded the latest source code 1.2.1, compiled it (make &> errors.log), got no errors, and installed. This time I get a good frame rate, though the gauges are still illegible grey disks; I manage to drive for a few seconds using the keyboard, after which the PC hangs: I have to reboot the hardest way. There are no error messages. One difference between the two builds (src.rpm for SuSE and pure source) is that the former uses freeglut, the latter uses mesaglut as provided by SuSE. Also, in the pure source build, I have to delete from modules/graphic/ssggraph/grmain.h the definitions which define glActiveTextureARB as glActiveTexture etc. because I do have the *ARB routines on my system and not the other ones. Any suggestion is very much appreciated, thanks, Roberto |
