If one was run I'd certainly be interested in taking part, it'd motivate me to get off my backside and actually do some more work on my robot too. ;) A far as the format is concerned, I agree with a semi-pro endurace race, probably with at least 1 pit stop. For sprint races it's all about raw speed, which requires a lot of time spent working out equations. In endurace racing strategy becomes more important, having the fastest lap times doesn't mean winning. It's also much easier to implement all kinds of nice tricks around fuel stints and when to pit to repair damage which might make people feel more confident about entering a car that can't match the berniws and the like for speed. Should also make it more interesting to watch too. :) I'd say that probably track races would be best, although I don't think it matters too much on which of the track groups of cars or the nascar group is chosen. Personally I'd go with one of the two RWD groups, just because racing cars tend to be rear wheel drive. Hi all uebertakter asked in the forum: "Does anyone have any plans to organize a robot race season, similar to what was done with RARS?" My answer so far was: "Not yet. But if somebody is interested I can create a draft for rules. What I have in mind is something like that: - We have no replays, nor does the same race evaluate on all systems the same way (no joke, depends on processor, compiler and compiler flags). Therefore I suggest that all people willing to run the race will do that. Then we take the median of the results for every driver. - What races want people to do? I would recommend all use the same type of car. - What difficulty, is semi pro ok or too hard? - Length of the races (Pit Stops necessary)? - ... and more to decide. I would prefer semi pro endurance races, but I think we have to decide that somehow democratic. Before we start then with a real season we could try how the rules and the process works with 2 or 3 preparation races and fix the remaining issues. bye, Bernhard." Would anybody be interested in a racing season? What type of race and skill level would you prefer? What car(s) should we use? Is the idea with the median ok? Other problems and thoughts? Bye, Bernhard. -- visit my homepage http://www.berniw.org |
