Rerunning the installer shouldn't have any effect, as the EXE launcher dynamically detects the Java to use on each run. But the EXE launcher in 5.5 does not find Java 11 due to a change in version naming scheme. Either use a daily build, or simply replace the EXE launcher with the one to attached to https://sourceforge.net/p/jedit/bugs/4084/#a987, then it should work properly. I re-run the installer whenever I change the version of Java installed and it usually picks up the default one. How does the Windows program JEdit.exe, in the latest version 5.5, choose which version of Java to use in Windows 10 ? I noticed that after I installed the latest Java 8 from Oracle that JEdit.exe picked this up automatically to use. But after installing Java 11 JEdit.exe did not use it at all. Is there something I have to do using the latest JEdit 5.5 JEdit.exe to get it to use my Java 11 install, or is executing java for Java11, as in 'java -jar jedit.jar' the only way to currently use Java 11 ? |

Hi All, It appears that the problem was including the jedit.jar file in my .jedit/jars directory. If I don't copy that jar as part of my build script then I don't get the problem. I'd be eager to know if someone can replicate this. Background I had a strange bug that when I start jEdit with my plugin all my menus became unintelligible strings of special characters. all the best, Adam -- -------- Adam Pease http://www.ontologyportal.org http://www.adampease.org @apease_ontology on Twitter |

Our system checks if each variable name is consistent with other variables in the project in its usage pattern, and proposes correct candidates if inconsistency is detected. This is a part of academic research that we hope to publish soon, but as a part of the evaluation, we applied our systems to your projects and got a few interesting results. We carefully reviewed our system output and manually created a patch to correct a few variable names. We would be delighted if this patch is found to be useful. It looks like the problem is a missing dependency declaration in the plugin properties file. Hi Dale, I really appreciate the lengths you are going to in order to help. I've just pushed the latest sigmakee.jar file. However, I'm not sure you'll be able to run the system without installing SigmaKEE itself with the rather lengthy instructions at https://github.com/ontologyportal/sigmakee all the best, Adam On 10/18/19 11:15 AM, Dale Anson wrote: > I tried to build your plugin from the code on github, but it looks like > the sigmakee.jar is somewhat out of date? Hi Dale,
That's right. I just tried uninstalling jEdit again, but this time
also removing my /home/apease/.jedit directory. When I restart jEdit I
have normal menus. I then closed jEdit, put my plugin jars into my
.jedit/jars directory and restarted jEdit. At that point, I have
scrambled menus again.
One long shot possibility is that the jar for my framework is very
large and that is the root of the trouble.
all the best,
Adam

I tried to build your plugin from the code on github, but it looks like the
sigmakee.jar is somewhat out of date? I get a symbol not found error on
SUMOtoTFAform.errors.

Hmm. I'm not sure what else to suggest. It was working fine, and now it's
not, and all that changed is your plugin?

Hi Dale,
It changed the property, but other than that had no effect. I tried
closing jEdit and reopening in hopes it would react on startup but still
no effect.
BeanShell> jEdit.getProperty("options.appearance.primaryFont")
æé®ï¼èååæ ç¾åä½:
BeanShell> jEdit.setProperty("options.appearance.primaryFont", "Dialog")
BeanShell> jEdit.getProperty("options.appearance.primaryFont")

Dialog
is persistent upon starting jEdit, as I would expect.
BeanShell> jEdit.getProperty("options.appearance.primaryFont")
Dialog
BeanShell> jEdit.getProperty("options.appearance.secondaryFont")

Hi All,
In my continuing attempt to figure out how to fix my scrambled menus,
I tried the following
BeanShell> jEdit.getCurrentLanguage()
en
BeanShell> jEdit.getProperty("lang.usedefaultlocale")
true
BeanShell> jEdit.getProperty("options.appearance.primaryFont")
æé®ï¼èååæ ç¾åä½:
BeanShell> jEdit.getProperty("options.appearance.secondaryFont")
å表åææ¬å段åä½:
BeanShell> jEdit.getProperty("options.appearance.helpViewerFont")

BeanShell> jEdit.getFontProperty("metal.primary.font")
java.awt.Font[family=Dialog,name=Dialog,style=plain,size=12]
BeanShell> jEdit.getFontProperty("metal.secondary.font")
java.awt.Font[family=Dialog,name=Dialog,style=plain,size=12]
BeanShell>
GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getAvailableFontFamilyNames()
Array: [Ljava.lang.String;@3905aa5a {
aakar
Abyssinica SIL
... [AP - my elision to save space]
Dialog
DialogInput
...
The result for jEdit.getProperty("options.appearance.primaryFont")
æé®ï¼èååæ ç¾åä½:
shows the sort of thing I see in place of normal menu labels.
Does this generate any thoughts on what to investigate further?
all the best,
Adam

Hi All, Even unintalling and reinstalling jEdit didn't solve the problem with scrambled menus and labels displaying gibberish special characters. So I gather the problem must be external to jEdit, or part of a persistent properties file. I tried deleting my .jedit/properties file after exiting jEdit too. That also had no effect. I'm not seeing this issue in any other application so it's at least specific to Java/Spring if not jEdit itself, as far as I can see. More exploration needed I guess... all the best, Adam On 10/17/19 3:37 PM, Adam Pease wrote: > Hi Dale, > I really appreciate your taking a look at the code. Hi Dale, I really appreciate your taking a look at the code. Alas, since all strings in the interface are scrambled, the Global Options dialog is unintelligable. I tried looking in my .jedit/properties file but didn't notice anything there. The only wild conjecture I have is that it's connected with my deleting the lang_fr.properties file in the QuickNotepad plugin and maybe there's a loose end somewhere from that. all the best, Adam On 10/17/19 3:28 PM, Dale Anson wrote: > I looked at your code on github, and I don't see anything that would > make your jEdit menus and so on have odd fonts.
