You can have any number of plugins using the 4.2 installed without a
performance hit, since all initialization is performed when the plugin
is first invoked (which is fast for one plugin; but having to load all
plugins on startup could take long in 4.1).

Summary: jEdit only goes into one Start Menu

jEdit only goes into the Administrators Start Menu.  
Perhaps it goes into the current user's only as I install 
using the Administrator account.  So when I log in as 
something else.  I have to create the short cuts or copy 
them over.  I am using Windows 2000.

Summary: XML Plug-in reports error on save

Initial Comment:
I am using  jEdit4.2pre6 and XML plugins. I have a
normal XML file. In jEdit 4.1Final I can save the file
with no problems. With the new pre6 when I save the
file I get:

server.xml(1error(s), 0 warnings(s))
3:cvc-elt.1:Cannot find the declaration of element 'Server'

Here is the part of the beginning of the Server.xml file:

I wouldn't worry about TextTools being a resource hog!
I certainly think the comment toggling commands, which
work with all edit modes, belong there more logically
than in JTools which is a Java-centric plugin.

toggle commands from JTools to TextTools where they
fit more logically. Since there has been some
encouragement recently I've looked into how I could do
this & it's pretty simple. If you're agreeable, I
could make the changes. These would involve two new
commands and an option pane. I don't think I would
need to touch the existing code other than the .props,
actions.xml and user-guide.xml files. If you like I
would also be happy to upgrade the plugin to the jEdit
4.2 API which would make it easier for me to integrate
the option pane. If you are okay with me making these
changes would you rather I sent you a unified diff of
the source tree or just updated CVS?

using the view layout where the left and right
dockables get the full window height, the right (and
presumably left) dockables on come down as far as the
top of the bottom docking bar, but the bottom docking
bar wraps at the left edge of the right dockable,

Summary: problem removing plugins with 'shortcuts' dialog

Initial Comment:
I am using jEdit 4.3pre6 with Linux (Slackware 9.1,
Linux 2.4.22 i486) and JRE 1.4.2 from Sun. Once you
have removed a plugin using the plugin manager the
'shortcuts' dialog from the 'global settings' window
shows nothing, unless you restart jEdit completely.
This does not occur when you install a plugin.

Summary: jEdit 4.2pre6 Breaks FTP plugin

Initial Comment:
The ftp plugin worked fine with jEdit 4.2pre5 but fails 
with 4.2pre6.  I have tried both it both on Windows XP 
and HPUX with the same results.

For example file buivel.f90 is listed in the file manager as
" 1  2002 buivel.f90".  If I select then open it I get an 
error.  If I manually type in the filename it loads 
correctly.  All directories and files are listed incorrectly, 
but linked (UNIX) files list OK.

Actually I changed the plugin's activate property to 'defer', as opposed
to 'true'. There is really no reason why this plugin should get loaded
and started unless the user specifically requests the custom fold
handler. Can you make the change in your tree and debug this case? I
don't want to release 4.2 plugins that activate on startup unless
absolutely necessary.

Hi Slava,

Apparently I didn't check in the changes to the build file. I fixed it 
last weekend based on an e-mail from Ollie. It's checked in now.

I just did a cvs update and build, I don't see any problem with the 
janitor thread stopping on either Win2k or Linux. How can I reproduce 
what you're seeing?

I've seen crashes as well, but for me they happen the first
time I try to drag a file into jEdit. Sometimes it quits...
If it does quit, I relaunch, drop the exact same file again,
and it always works the second time...

The archive had this msg from Kris Kopicki. It should fix
the icon problem if you're using a 4.2pre version.

"I've noticed a few problems people have been having with
background mode, missing icon and the cocoa libs not being
found. The 4.2 bundle will fixes all that."

Summary: Unloading plugin doesn't remove items from VFSBrowser menu

Initial Comment:
When a plugin that defines items for the VFS Browser 
plugin menu is unloaded, the menu items are not 
removed from the browser plugin menu.

Selecting the item from the menu, when the plugin has 
been unloaded, causes the following warning:

 [warning] EditAction$Wrapper: Unknown action: 
<action name>

which is of course because the associated action has 
been unloaded with the plugin.

The only way to get the browser menu to update was 
to restart jedit.

ah. you've come across a situation that I never have (but should've
anticipated). you're opening the dialog before jEdit has created an instance
of the fold handler (which causes it to register itself with the plugin). I
guess I've never seen this because it's my default fold handler and
therefore an instance is always created at startup. is there a way to prompt
jEdit to load a fold handler that I can invoke if the plugin finds itself
trying to execute a method without a handler?

Hey Gang. I love Jedit.

I had a weird bug today where some text I had copied 
to the clipboard was suddenly appearing and annoyingly 
reappearing every time I saved the file. It would just get 
dumped at some random spot in my code. The compiler 
would always find it, but I had to quit Jedit and restart it 
to make it go away. It happens every so often.

I'm running 4.1 stable on XP, doing Java (J2ME) with a 
bunch of plugins and so forth. If you guys need more 
info just contact me and I will do what I can to help.
