I don't get that error. I don't usually have the tip of the day turned on, so I turned it on, restarted jEdit, and I still don't see that error. However, I'm not running a daily, I'm running from revision 24028, which should be pretty close. I do see that the tip of the day is slow to load and isn't necessarily centered over jEdit. ScalacPlugin simply needs a rebuild (source compatible change of closeQuietly). It's not in jEdit repos but at https://github.com/vseryakov/scalac-jedit I don't know if Vlad Seryakov is still involved in jEdit. By the way, the ticket is on the jedit-plugins, not jedit project, so I can't comment it. No big deal. The more the font and GUI scaling aspect works in jEdit, the more ambitions ... What do you think about a property for global font scaling? Lets say in the Appearance option panel? That factor could affect the behaviour of jEdit.getFontProperty to produce a scaled font implicitly. Thus the many different spots (text area font, gutter font, Metal menu fonts etc.) would benefit immediately, without asking the user to change all these properties separatly. The same for various plugins, e.g. Console. Even more ambitiously, one could try to poke into the Nimbus L&F font properties to apply the same factor, and thus get some GUI scaling there. It is a bit odd that the latest and greatest 4K displays need to go back to old Metal or GTK+ L&F (on Linux). Makarius |

Dear all, I've made another round to address fine points of GUI scaling for high resolution displays, notably "4K". The relevant SVN commits are 24013 .. 24023 (trunk). As far as I can tell that's really it, at least for the main jEdit code base. I've tested everything on 3 different machines with 3 different generations of displays (regular, full-HD, 4K) using Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, and various combinations of look-and-feels. There might be fine points in other combinations, so more testing by other people is required. I have also re-adjusted the menu accelerator font: the default property does not always make sense, depending on platform, L&F, GUI scaling. On Mac OS X it is always the Aqua default, which is not fixed-width, but it requires special Apple glyphs. On Linux and Windows it is now "Lucida Sans Typewriter" uniformly, which is a standard Java font, instead of the system specific "Monospaced". I've also enabled anti-aliasing uniformly, based on the assumption that it is enabled by the underlying GUI framework to render regular menu content. One tiny imperfection: for multiple menu short-cuts, the "or" seperator is rendered in the accelerator font, not the menu font. Its probably not worth making an issue of that :-) Makarius |

Matthieu, thanks for fixing this up. It looks like that classpath setting has been that way for about 2 years, so I'm wondering if the build ever actually worked in that time? I also see in the build file in the prepare-textArea target a list of files. I assume these are all the files needed for the text area build? It's easy to forget about the text area build, it would be worthwhile to make the main compile target also run the compile-textArea target. This would help point out inadvertently changing one of those classes right away, rather than having to figure out what went wrong afterwards. I'll work on making that change and verifying it isn't too painful. Another question -- where is the stand-alone text area distributed? Is this the same as the jEdit syntax package at https://sourceforge.net/projects/jedit-syntax? Surprisingy enough, this package has been downloaded over 500 times this year and hasn't been updated since 2002. I'm wondering if the stand-alone text area isn't being distributed and no one knows about it, why are we maintaining the separation? Or should we resurrect the syntax package? Hi, in fact I committed the changes, there were two problems: the dependency on jEdit in ModeProvider and also a problem of classpath in build.xml. I fixed it but in fact I find strange that it fails since there were no changes in build.xml since a long time. Maybe I did not use the best way to declare the classpath but at least it works ;) If you have a better way, feel free to fix it. Hi, after some search, I think the problem are the changes in ModeProvider. This class is part of jEdit-textArea package and cannot reference jEdit class. I think in fact all UI here should be done outside of that class, the exceptions should be thrown when adding and removing node and it is the caller job to show an error dialog or not. I'm getting that same error when I do it manually from the command line.
But for some reason Jenkins keeps getting successful builds on it on my
daily build server. I don't understand why yet. very strange.

Thanks Dale for fixing all these outstanding bugs!! I am getting more excited over the next release now. I am still setting up my new place of residence and I do not have my linux server on the internet yet. Once it is back online,, I'll be able to do the daily builds again. I hope that won't be more than a few more days. --Alan |

I've fixed a number of bugs in SideKick recently, and am considering putting in a release request. Does anyone else have some pending work on this plugin that should be included? If I don't hear anything in the next few days, I'll go ahead and submit the release request. Thanks, Dale |
