About the toolbar: probably I don't understand jEdit's
toolbar API well enough.  It would be nicer if Navigator fit
in the toolbar rather than as a separate toolbar.  Navigator
should be added to the toolbar if the toolbar is visible and
the user has checked the box in the Navigator options. One
of the recent changes was to make Navigator respect the
jEdit toolbar setting.

About the null pointer:  Thanks, I hadn't noticed that. I
was trying to remove the Navigator from the toolbar when the
View was already closed. I added a check to make sure the
View is not closed before attempting to remove.  I won't be
able to check in the change until this evening.

Hi Dale,

Should the Navigator toolbar buttons be added to the jEdit
toolbar?  I'm seeing it as a separate two-button toolbar
above the jEdit toolbar.  I'm figuring this is how it's
supposed to work, but just asking because the description
makes it sound like the buttons are added to jEdit's toolbar.

Also, I'm getting a NullPointerException when exiting jEdit
regardless of whether the Navigator toolbar is enabled or
not.  I've attached the stack trace.

I have installed many plugins from the Plugin Manager.  
However the JavaDebuggerPlugin will not download.  I 
have tried a few times over the course of a week but

Summary: Project Viewer: Display error if config file is not writable

Initial Comment:
When the config files are not writable, Project Viewer should display a error popup.

I've added a new project, but it would not appear in the list. Adding it again it said that it already exists.

When closing jEdit, it gives an error to the console, but that may not be seen of course.

This is with Project Viewer 2.1.0.1 and jEdit 4.3pre3 (cvs).

Summary: Internet Explorer incompatibility.

Initial Comment:
When I install jEdit, thereafter I cannot open Internet
Explorer. Whenever I open Internet Explorer it instead
opens up in jEdit as a bunch of illegible text. In the
title bar it shows a file name of icwconn1.ex_. If I
uninstall jEdit then Internet Explorer works fine
again. If I then reinstall jEdit Internet Explorer
quits working again. {LOOP}

I don't know why this is happening; jEdit works fine on
all my other workstations in conjunction with Internet
Explorer.

I'm running Windows 2000 Professional on the box where
the error is occuring.

Got this from the main Plugin packager:

1. I don't think you want to use temporary buffers for visible
buffers, as it creates problems with the buffer switcher.  For
example, if editing a file then opening a message, the
buffer switcher
still says the previous buffer is open.  Then manually
closing the
buffer generates an error.  I believe temporary buffers are for
searching and whatnot (not for display and editing) -- I
could be
wrong about that, though.

I'd rather not release the plugin to Plugin Central with the
temporary
buffer issue, as just testing/experimenting with the plugin
I got
numerous stack traces before I figured out what was going on.

java.io.IOException: Unexpected response: 220
smtp-send.myrealbox.com Novonyx SMTP ready $Revision: 1.4 $

myrealbox is the smtp server I was testing with.   The rest
I don't know about.  Any help would be appreciated.

In the meantime, jEdit is saying. "[warning] JMailPlugin:
jmail.JMailPlugin should extend EditPlugin not EBPlugin
since it has an empty handleMessage()".  I leave that one up
to you.

Summary: Unable to type in Save As dialog

Initial Comment:
When doing a "Save As" or "Save a Copy As", I am unable
to type a filename in the dialog box.  I can still move
around directories, click/highlight in the input box,
etc. using the mouse, but other keyboard input doesn't
seem to work in the box either, such as the up/down keys.

No errors are output to the Activity Log when this
happens, however the behaviour seems to only happen
when using the keyboard to activate the save as. (i.e.
Alt-F Alt-A or Alt-F followed by navigating with the
arrow keys)  This behaviour does not seem to happen
when going to File>Save As using the mouse.

On jEdit 4.3pre2 with Java 1.5 on Gentoo Linux.(Fluxbox WM)
(I have also noticed this behaviour since the 4.2pre's,
possibly earlier)

Result: On pressing the mouse button some items are

Hello,

Problem description (on jEdit 4.3pre2; j2re1.5.0):
- open several files in the project;
- switch to another project (that has no open files in it);
- switch back to the original project;
- the file-tabs show up (plugin BufferTabs) and the
file contents load OK, but the ProjectViewer hangs.
- Restart jEdit;
- ProjectViewer opens with the second project (but see
my bugreport about loading initial projectfiles).
- switch to the first project; PV hangs.

The following these steps solve the hanging situation:
- shutdown jEdit 4.3pre2;
- startup jEdit 4.2;
- it opens with the second project;
- switch to the first project;
- the project opens and the active files load OK;
- shutdown jEdit;
- startup jEdit 4.3pre2;
- PV loads ok, only 1 of the active files has been
remembered (and see my bugreport about loading initial
projectfiles).

I noted the following problem (PV 2.1.0.1; jEdit

When starting up jEdit, the (project-)file that was

This problem ONLY occurs in jEdit 4.3pre2 (4.2 final
works fine); and it occurs only when starting up jEdit
(not when switching projects - however, see my

Summary: Mouse wheel support ignores page-at-a-time setting

I'm using jEdit on Windows XP, with my system
mousewheel scrolling preferences set to "page at a
time".  However, in jEdit, a regular scroll (that is,
no modifier keys) scrolls three lines at a time.

Looking at JEditTextArea.java, in MouseWheelHandler, it
appears that the software intentionally decides to
scroll 3 lines at a time when the system returns
WHEEL_BLOCK_SCROLL, which according to the docs, and
certainly according to my Windows evidence, should
correspond with page-at-a-time scrolling.

It seems to me that this routine should do the same
thing for isShiftDown as for e.GetScrollType ==
MouseWheelEvent.WHEEL_BLOCK_SCROLL.

Do you mean you want columns hidden/shown by actually
removing/adding the columns from the model? I'm not
quite sure if this the best way of doing that. If you
removed a column entirely from the model, you wouldn't
be able to re-enable it using the menu. 

I did a quick hack last night that did the
hiding/showing of columns by removing/adding the
columns to the TableColumnModel. But it was relatively
ugly and didn't really work so well. 

For some reason, the behavior I was getting seemed
like the JTable didn't seem to respect the
TableColumn's modelIndex. That is, when I
added/removed columns, the column itself and header
would toggle on and off properly, but the model data
would match model's column order. i.e., if only "Name"
(modelIndex: 0) and "Size" (modelIndex: 2) were on,
you would get the data for "Name" and "Type"
(modelIndex: 1). 

Anyway, that's probably a result of my
misunderstanding how the
JTable/TableModel/TableColumnModel/TableColumn objects
interact with one another. This seems like a
relatively common feature that one would want with a
JTable. Has anyone else on this list had experience
implementing something like this?

I suspect that creating a special TableColumnModel
class that supports visibility using and fires the
correct events to the JTable may be the way to go. But
I'll get to that next weekend.

The problem is that "/**/" is interpreted as the start of a
doxygen comment block (COMMENT3) instead of as an empty
block comment.

Sorry, I don't know how to attach files.  Perhaps this will

I belive this behaviour is correct - on the first line /**
indicates the beggining of a doxygen comment block (javadoc
style), so the following / is ignored (treated as a
comment).   The final */ (line 5) terminates the comment
block, so the final line is treated (correctly) as a line
comment.

If your first line was actually "/* */"  (without quotes),
then the behaviour would be different - I imagine the
behaviour that you were expecting
