You've done a great job updating your plugins to the new API. Lets
hope other developers soon follow suit.

One minor quibble: in BufferList.props, you also need to define a
bufferlist-toggle.label property, since each dockable has two
automatically-created actions, <name> and <name>-toggle.

This explains the VerifyError that is thrown by the current JCompiler
version.

I will fix this in pre3, even though you seem to be about to release
a new JCompiler version anyway.

Summary: component focus control

Initial Comment:
I downloaded jEdit a couple of days ago and have 
played around with it since then. 

I notice that it has a nice window to remind the user 
to save unsaved files when exiting. But after I click 
the "discard" button, the focus stays on the button. I 
think it would be nicer if the program automatically 
return the focus to the list of unsaved files.

A line of requestFocus() should do it.

Hi Slava,

MiscUtilities.compareVersions(String,String) is not static.

I know, it's deprecated, and I won't use it any more in the next version
of JCompiler, but... well, it's just not right. Maybe you should just
remove it.

There are some problems with jedit 4.0pre2 run in
JDK1.4.0b3 on windows 2000

The x on the corner of the window does not close the
window.

In the search window, the alt+letter keys do not select
an option or text box. eg. alt+s does not select the
search text box.

I, ve seen the same behaviout of not being able to close a 
window by clicking on the X, but in my case the reason was 
that I was using the wheelmouse plugin. When removed the 
window would close normally.

The best solution would be to just drop the 0.5 version as soon as
jdk1.4 hits final.

I've seen a LOT of these... Users seem to enjoy not reading the description
of the plugin, so they get a lot into this stuff (maybe mike should put the
description with <H1>... in red... and blinking).

What if the two WheelMouse versions (jdk1.x & jdk1.4) get merged into one
plugin, which would detect based on jdk version how to do its job ? Wouldn't
that be reasonable ?

jEdit: jEdit version 3.2.2

Suppose I have code such as:

  x = y;          // assign value

If I double-click on the space before the comment, jEdit selects:

  ;          //

I find this a nuisance. It may be because I have tabs rather than spaces before the comment. But I'd expect jEdit to select only spaces if I double click on white space. This may be related to jEdit's notion of what a word or non-word is. Some editors allow word characters to be specified (e.g. [a-zA-Z0-9_.%]*). Since jEdit is so configurable, this might be a possible enhancement. In the meantime, correct space selection would be nice.

You need to upgrade the WheelMouse plugin for the version 
compatible with JDK1.4.  Remove or rename the WheelMouse 
jar file and restart jEdit.  You can then download and 
install a compatible version using the PluginManager.

When editing an existing file and saving changes, the original file is not updated. Both files "original" 
and "#original#save#" exists. "#original#save#"
contains all changes, but "original" is never deleted, and thus "#original#save#"
is not renamed.

Hello,

I just intalled jEdit4.0 pre 2 and couple of my 
favorite plugins and then discovered that 2 of them 
wouldn't start: CodeAid and XML.

My OS is Windows 2000, JAVA version is 1.3.1

ps: version 4 of jEdit leaves mixed feelings, so far 
I'm not sure whether I like it more than 3.2.1 or not.

Summary: FTP Save dont preserve owner or sym link

Initial Comment:
FTP save writes to a #Filename#.ftpsave file, then renames that file to the orginal
filename (over-writing it).  This method does not work in the following situations:
1) Editing file as non-owner, owner is not preserved (goes to logged on owner)
2) Editing a symbolic link, Symbolic link is now a normal file
3) Requires adequate space / permissions in directory as well as file.
4) File mode is cached from open, so you can't chmod it on the machine while editing

Would like to see direct FTP put's instead of .save file (at least optional), as all 4 cases work fine
when just doing a put as opposed to a put <filename>.ftpsave then a rename.

Would be interested in recieving any advice on just "hacking" this feature off for now, as this is 
show-stopping our site upgrade from Version 3.0 (which is btw the absolute best integrated ftp 
editor I have ever seen !!!)

jEdit 4.0pre3 adds an option in the global options dialog
box to disable two-stage save.

To "hack" this feature off, edit
org/gjt/sp/jedit/io/BufferIORequest.java in the editor core,
and around line 512, replace this:

String savePath;

if((vfs.getCapabilities() & VFS.RENAME_CAP) != 0)
{
    savePath = vfs.getParentOfPath(path)
        + '#' + vfs.getFileName(path)
        + "#save#";
 }
 else
    savePath = path;

With this:

String savePath = path;

Then, later on, remove or comment out these statements:

if((vfs.getCapabilities() & VFS.RENAME_CAP) != 0)
    vfs._rename(session,savePath,path,view);

Note that this disables two-stage save for all filesystems;
there is no way to do it on a filesystem-specific basis.

Summary: Gutter bracket-matching omission

Initial Comment:
The bracket-matching code (to display the indicator 
in the gutter) works well for all cases except one.
It correctly renders if both brackets are on-screen, 
or if the cursor is positioned at the end bracket. If 
the cursor is at the start bracket (and the match is 
off-screen), the gutter indicator is not rendered.

Summary: Back arrow command in File Browser

Initial Comment:
When in the File System Browser & in a particular
folder that is not a root drive (for windows), that is
after selecting a folder & pressing Enter, the back
arrow command, which is supposed to cause the Browser
to go to the previous folder, only works when a child
folder is currently selected.

When a child file is selected, pressing the back arrow
does nothing.

Summary: XMLplugin: cannot edit values in Dialog

Initial Comment:
I am NOT able to edit attribute values in the 
XMLTreeTable EditDialog when the values are not given 
in a combo box list. I have tried everything 
reasonable but no keys are recorded. I even looked at 
the source listing for the EditDialog to see if there 
was a clue there.

I have a Pentium IV generic machine (?) running 
Windows XP OS! But I experienced the same difficulty 
on another machine running Windows Me
