Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Accepted Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Scott LeBaron (cheddarmakerman) >Assigned to: Alan Ezust (ezust) Summary: typing in multiple select Initial Comment: If I highlight multiple selections of text in the text area and then begin typing, only the first character of what I type is inserted in the selected areas (except for where the cursor ended up after making the selection). For example if I have the text: <body> <p> Some Text </p> </body> and I highlight both p's in the <p> tags and then type "div" I end up with: <body> <d> Some Text </div> </body> I've attached a screenshot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2007-06-30 14:35 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=935841 Originator: NO Committed to 9888. Thanks, shlomy! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2007-06-28 13:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1477607 Originator: NO I've attached a patch that fixes this bug. It's a tiny fix (two line change), but please verify it before committing, as I'm not sure this is the right way to do it. It simply avoids removing the selection in BufferHandler.contentRemoved() if there's more than one. It works similar to rectangular selection - after the first character is typed, all the selections become 0-width selections, so as you continue to type, this 0-width selections just move forward. But you need to press <esc> in order to clear the selections when done replacing them with the text. File Added: patch ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: javacorner (javacorner) Date: 2007-06-27 13:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1624782 Originator: NO I digged into the code.... The problem is that "Multiple Selections" are NOT handled by their own org.gjt.sp.jedit.textarea.Selection.something class (unlike "Rectangular Selections" which are handled by the Selection.Rect). Multiple Selections are simply array of Range selection, (IMO dirtily) managed by org.gjt.sp.jedit.textarea.TextArea class. They deselect themselves after typing. I tried some workarounds (including using Session.Rect arrays) to let the selection active, but without success. Maybe I'll try again in future, maybe implementing a Selection.Multi class (which should be more easy to mantain, IMO). What do the developers think about? Bye, ;Davide ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: javacorner (javacorner) Date: 2007-06-15 09:55 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1624782 Originator: NO Yes, it happens always, also when the "multiple selection" is done in a way that the selection area is a rectangular one (in such a case, of course, if the same selection has been done in "rectangular mode", it works as expected). The fact is that in "multiple selection", after the first character is typed the entire selection disappear (unlike in rectangular mode, when a "somethig after" remains selected). Sound interesting, I'll look at how jEdit handle multiple selections ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=300588&aid=1724940&group_id=588 |

Feature Requests item #1745821, was opened at 2007-06-30 13:53 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350588&aid=1745821&group_id=588 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: core Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: FSB: ability to copy files over VFS Initial Comment: Some people who are using jEdit for a distance learning course could greatly benefit from the ability to copy files that are not necessarily editable textfiles, but just binary images. They use jEdit to copy files over to remote hosts thanks to the FTP plugin, but they can only use this for text files - Ideally they would like to be able to open an image, such as a PNG, JPG or GIF, perhaps preview it in a dockable, and then save it to a remote address, without causing havoc in the jedit textarea or related plugins that try to parse things. But if the FSB had a copy action that would also solve the problem. Basically, the instructor of this course doesn't want to require them to learn an FTP client also, since they are on a variety of platforms and may not have the same FTP client avaiable across all platforms, while jedit is "exactly the same" everywhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350588&aid=1745821&group_id=588 |

I think userInput('\b') generally should behave as backspace(). Similarly, userInput('\u007F') should behave as delete(). I made a patch for that (attached). It also updates the javadoc. But I can't reproduce the original problem. What parser can reproduce the problem? It seems to be required the parser overrides canHandleBackspace() method of SideKickParser and returns true. Additianlly, It may be different between Windows and Linux whether '\b' is passed as KEY_TYPED event. Unfortunately, I don't have a Linux box. Anyway, I think the attached patch will fix the problem without any breakage. Can I just commit? File Added: textare_userInput.patch ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert McKinnon (robmckinnon) Date: 2007-04-29 03:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=374389 Originator: YES To reproduce: 1) start typing a method with autocompletion on 2) when completion popup appears, press backspace key 3) the backspace char incorrectly gets inserted into the buffer, on Linux it's rendered as a square (since it's a non-viewable char) Correct behaviour should be: 3) backspace action occurs, last char entered is deleted and cursor moves back one place ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2007-04-01 16:32 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=935841 Originator: NO I'm testing this patch but I don't observe any difference in behavior. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Updated Dockable Library Initial Comment: The eclipse dockable framework is beautiful, the way you can resize dockables, make some share tabs with others, and create split areas between two dockables on the same edge of the mainwindow. I realize this is SWT - is there a Swing framework we can reuse that is similar? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2007-06-30 15:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1477607 Originator: NO Added a fix to a small annoying bug... File Added: Flexdock.jar ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2007-06-30 14:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1477607 Originator: NO Sorry, the flexdock library must be downloaded from their site: https://flexdock.dev.java.net I can't attach it (it's too large). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2007-06-30 14:39 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1477607 Originator: NO I'm attaching a tiny plugin (Flexdock) that shows how easy it is to use flexdock. To use it, start jEdit, and then use Plugins->Flexdock->Start. This will convert all the jEdit dockables at the top, left and right into flexdock dockable, so you can start dragging them from one area to another or make two dockables share the same area. For some reason I had a problem with the bottom docking area so the bottom dockables remain in the DockableWindowManager and are not converted to flexdock. There's a bunch of other problems but you can easily see the benefits, this is only a small "proof of concept" demo. Note: You need to install both Flexdock.jar (the plugin) and also the flexdock library jar file (also attached) in the jedit/jars directory for this to work. *** IMPORTANT: This plugin closes the dockable window manager after converting the dockables to flexdock. Save the jEdit properties before using it, so you can restore them later (or use the Docker plugin to save the perspective before you start Flexdock). Category: editor core Group: Regressive (new to devel) >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: m--s (m--s) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: bad handling of the escapes introduced after jEdit 4.2 Initial Comment: HOW TO REPRODUCE: 1. type in the following text into a new buffer: #!/bin/sh echo '[inside]\'[still inside]'[outside] echo '[inside]\'[still inside]'[outside] echo "[inside]\"[still inside]"[outside] echo "[inside]\"[still inside]"[outside] 2. save it under any name, and then reload - that way the "shellscript" mode will be activated, and syntax coloring will start working 3. RESULT: it depends on the jEdit version: jEdit 4.2: everyting is just fine, jEdit 4.3pre9: first lines are colorized correctly, but in the last two lines the sequence \" is treated as an ending of the SPAN (but NOT as the beginning) - this should not be the case, because there is an attribute ESCAPE="\" in the RULEset, which should prevent that. The difference between the treatment of ' and " (in shellscript.xml) is that the former is a simple SPAN, whereas the latter is also DELEGATEd to another RULEset. Same stands for `. ======================================================= The reason may be the transition away from the gnu.regexp engine, but I don't know enough about jEdit's core to claim that. I haven't checked any other version of jEdit, so I don't know exactly when this bug has been introduced. I am sure that the shellscript.xml itself doesn't do any harm to this, as the differences are minor and regarding only the "Readins" syntax (because of the use of the regular expressions). This bug is really annoying, and has forced me to remove the DELEGATE attribute from both the ` and ", otherwise the syntax coloring goes mad (this is the main virtue of bash programming - above the certain level, this is really a write-only language :) ). Although I haven't tested it, but I am almost sure this bug also concerns other, more popular :) programming languages. Everything has been tested on WinXP SP2 (Polish), jre6 from Sun. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: SourceForge Robot (sf-robot) Date: 2007-06-29 19:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1312539 Originator: NO This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. Effective use of this feature needs some knowledge about encodings. It also needs some experimental knowledge because immature sequence of fallback encodings can be a cause of silent failure with Mojibake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mojibake). My sequence were fixed by testing in real life for some weeks or months. Because of that, I don't know what sequence other users should use. I can imagine a sequence which will suit for most Japanese Windows users. But it won't suit for users in other environments. To provide an example sequence to many and unspecified persons, I think we should say what target (environment or kind of users) the sequence will suit for and verify that the sequence won't cause Mojibake in general use for the target. Could you say the target and verify it won't cause Mojibake about your sequence "UTF-8 ISO-8859-1"? Another problem is, HistoryTextField seems not to suit to provide the example sequences because it can't show what target the sequence is for. Without showing the target, users still don't know what they should use. Detailed documentation and commented examples in help page might be a solution. But it needs some time and fluent English writing which I don't have enough now. I spent 4 hours to write this mail. Very sorry. -- k_satoda |

Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: honestguvnor (honestguvnor) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Fortran indentation broken Initial Comment: jedit version 4.2final OSX 10.3.9 PowerPC G4 Indentation in Fortran is broken. Example: if ( i.eq.1 ) then i = 1 i = 1 do i=1,1 i = 1 end do end if Indents to: if ( i.eq.1 ) then i = 1 i = 1 do i=1,1 i = 1 end do end if ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: honestguvnor (honestguvnor) Date: 2007-06-29 11:52 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1822799 Originator: YES I was evaluating jedit as a possible replacement for my current editor and have no prior experience with it. I tried an older version (forgot to note number) on a PC with an installation from a few years ago and it also did not indent correctly. At a guess, this is not a recent problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert Schwenn (rschwenn) Date: 2007-06-25 21:07 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1486645 Originator: NO Have You ever seen this working? For example: do i=1,9 do j=1,9 if ( numa(i,j).eq.1 ) then setunique = setunique + got1(a,numa,i,j) end if end do end do becomes: do i=1,9 do j=1,9 if ( numa(i,j).eq.1 ) then setunique = setunique + got1(a,numa,i,j) end if end do end do ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2007-06-21 23:13 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=935841 Originator: NO changing this to a patch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert Schwenn (rschwenn) Date: 2007-06-21 21:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1486645 Originator: NO If the property name "indentNextLine" is changed to "indentNextLines" (trailing "s"!) this issue seems to be solved. Attached is the fortran mode file with this change against the latest revision (see Patch #1059520). It is suitable for jEdit 4.2final and jEdit 4.3pre9. p.s. Is there a way to get lines like "end do" or "end if" automatically unindented? The property "unindentThisLine" does not work for me (see bug #1651962). Category: None Group: None Status: Closed Resolution: Accepted Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Assigned to: Alan Ezust (ezust) Summary: SideKick: Enable parser-specific toolbar Initial Comment: It would be nice to have a parser-specific toolbar in the SideKick dockable window, so, for example, CtagsSideKick could place some buttons above the tree to change the grouping/sorting modes. Since each parser has its own set of actions, I think a parser-specific toolbar would be appropriate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2007-06-29 07:52 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1477607 Originator: YES I think two combo-boxes would take up too much screen space, e.g. the sort criterion "name, folds precede leafs". But you have a point, if the criteria for sorting and/or grouping is extended, I will probably change it into combo-boxes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2007-06-29 06:52 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=935841 Originator: NO I committed the change to SideKick 0.7.4, rev# 9878. Thanks! I was wondering though: what about two comboboxes, one for grouping and one for sorting? You can have a hover tip that says "Group By" or "Sort By" over each (if you don't have room for labels), and then the values would be shown in the combobox itself. just a thought. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2007-06-29 03:05 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1477607 Originator: YES File Added: CtagsSideKick.patch ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2007-06-29 03:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1477607 Originator: YES Added patches that implement the new feature in SideKick (SideKick.patch) and CtagsSideKick (CtagsSideKick.patch). I gave the later just so you can try it - I will commit it when the SideKick patch is committed, I still need to fix it a bit to make the buttons work correctly (but as far as the feature is concerned, it works fine).
