I only committed my changes to DotComplete. I've made a 
plugin-submission and DotComplete 0.6.6 should be in the next plugin batch.

The change to AntHelper was quite minor, that's why I did not think 
about committing it.

I know, that was annoying, It's already fixed in CVS (0.8.4).

Speaking of AntHelper, there is a bug in its current distribution (not 
CVS). The AntHelper.props file, embedded in the jar file downloaded 
from plugins.jedit.org, declares its version as 0.8.2, even though it 
is actually 0.8.3. This causes a problem with jEdit's plugin manager, 
which find 0.8.2 in the local jar, sees 0.8.3 on the website, and then 
tells me that I need to upgrade. Of course, upgrading fixes nothing 
because it simply downloads the jar with the buggy props file.

I was thinking about telling the maintainer about this, but on second 
thought, maybe I should wait until he applies your patch and releases 
0.8.4. The problem should go away then.

The buffer sends a BufferUpdate.MARKERS_CHANGED message when markers are 
added, and the gutter is repainted when this message is received by the 
EditPane class.

Initial Comment:
I am using jEdit 4.2 Final and PHPParser 1.0.2 on Java
1.4.2. Fresh install. Want to test it. The OS is Linux.
At a contruct like this

( 1 == 1 )
? echo "foo"
: echo "bar";

PHPParser reports an error at the colon. It is not very
common for if/else, but it is valid code. Just don´t
know how this construct is called :)

    I'm thinking about adding gutter highlights to the Bookmarks
plugin http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~prussell/jedit/.

I've looked throught the jEdit API and found that it looks like I want
to add a TextAreaExtension to the gutter. What I cant find is how
jEdit does this now for Markers...

Does anyone know where in the code jEdit adds highlighting to the
gutter for a marker?

Summary: Mac OS Plugin 3.0b fails to load with jEdit 4.2final

On starting jEdit a Plugin Error popup appears:
/Applications/jEdit 4.2/jars/MacOS.jar:
Cannot start: java.lang.NoClassDefFoudError: com/apple/cocoa/
application/NSMenu
Try updating to a newer version of the plugin

Plugin manager reports an error on version 3.0b of the Mac OS 
plugin


No newer version and in fact no version at all of Mac OS plugin is 
available via Plugin Manager

These messages are not seen on 4.2pre15 (which reports version 
3.0, not 3.0b, of Mac OS plugin)

Summary: Backups not created properly

Initial Comment:
When the backup directory is set (such as
"~/.jedit/backup"), backups are not created when a file
is saved.  If the backup directory is left blank,
backups are created in the file's directory as normal.  

The proper directory tree is created within the backup
directory for the backup file, but the backup file
itself is not created or written.

Nothing seems is printed to the Activity Log relating
to this problem.

The problem does not seem to occur in Windows XP with
the same backup settings, JDK, and jEdit version.

Gentoo Linux 1.4
JDK 1.5.0beta2 (also occurs with JDK 1.4.2)
jEdit 4.2final (also occurs with prerelease versions of
4.2)

Summary: gzip detection fails with utf-8y encoding

How to reproduce:

* create a small text buffer
* set its encoding to "utf-8y"
* enable gzip compression for on-disk-files
* save the file
* close the file
* load the file

You will see a garbled file.


Setting the byte-order-mark and compression works fine.
The resulting file is perfectly gzip compressed an the
uncompressed version contains the byte-order-mark.

However, loading fails.

After doing a regex hypersearch the results used to be 
all highlighted 4.2 pre 12. I downloaded the latest and 
hypersearch does not highlight all the results. I tried all 
combination of Edit->selection. 

If there are multiple results on the same line then they 
are highlighted.

MenuItem "File/Recent Files" lacks a keyboard mnemonic
and|or a shortcut.

For "power users" it is common to access recently used
files. Currently, the fastest way of doing this is

Alt+F
KeypadDown
KeypadDown
KeypadRight

and then selecting the filename.

This could be accelerated, by packing the above
sequence into a shorter sequence. For example:

Alt+F
F

where F means "Recent _F_iles"

Maybe one should even be able to give this submenu a
separate shortcut, like Alt+r or Alt+f.

If the "File/Recent Files" submenu was just opened, the
user should be able to choose the file by simply typing
some letters. Every file whose name (without path)
matches (ignoring case) the so-far typed-in string is
considered "soft selected". Those files should be
highlighted in some way.

Within this set of "soft selected" files, there is a
kind of cursor, which selects exact one of those files,
the first of the list of "soft selected" files (in the
order they appear) as default. This cursor can be
advanced by a "Tab" keystroke and and "de-"advanced by
a "Shift+Tab" keystroke.

A file is finally selected by an "Enter" or "Return"
keystroke.

Actual:

If the "File/Recent Files" submenu is open, one can use
the mouse to "fly" over the menu entries. If the mouse
is over one menu entry, the status line is update to
the pathname of the file represented by the menu entry.

Conversely, if the mouse is not used, but the keyboard,
by using the CursordDown and CursorUp keys, the
highlighting is updated like when using the mouse, but
the status line is not updated.

Expected:

The status line should be updated when using the arrow
keys like it is when using the mouse.

Actual:

If the "File/Recent Files" submenu is open, one can use
the mouse to "fly" over the menu entries. If the mouse
is over one menu entry, the status line is update to
the pathname of the file represented by the menu entry.

Conversely, if the mouse is not used, but the keyboard,
by using the CursordDown and CursorUp keys, the
highlighting is updated like when using the mouse, but
the status line is not updated.

Expected:

The status line should be updated when using the arrow
keys like it is when using the mouse.

If the "File/Recent Files" submenu was just opened, the
user should be able to choose the file by simply typing
some letters. Every file whose name (without path)
matches (ignoring case) the so-far typed-in string is
considered "soft selected". Those files should be
highlighted in some way.

Within this set of "soft selected" files, there is a
kind of cursor, which selects exact one of those files,
the first of the list of "soft selected" files (in the
order they appear) as default. This cursor can be
advanced by a "Tab" keystroke and and "de-"advanced by
a "Shift+Tab" keystroke.

A file is finally selected by an "Enter" or "Return"
keystroke.

MenuItem "File/Recent Files" lacks a keyboard mnemonic
and|or a shortcut.

For "power users" it is common to access recently used
files. Currently, the fastest way of doing this is

Alt+F
KeypadDown
KeypadDown
KeypadRight

and then selecting the filename.

This could be accelerated, by packing the above
sequence into a shorter sequence. For example:

Alt+F
F

where F means "Recent _F_iles"

Maybe one should even be able to give this submenu a
separate shortcut, like Alt+r or Alt+f.

My apologies if this has been covered before - I couldn't find anything 
on google or in the list archives. I've just subscribed to this list.

I'm using jEdit 4.2pre15, and I'm editing files on a remote linux server 
via SFTP (using the fantastic FTP Plugin, v0.7.2). The ownership & 
permissions on the files are important to maintain - I'm not the owner, 
but I am a member of the owner's group and the group permissions are 
such that I can modify the files. This works fine if editing in an ssh 
terminal.

If I use the Two-stage save option, my files save fine, but the file 
ownership & group reverts to my username & primary group (different to 
the group that originally owned the files) - not what I want.

If I don't use the two-stage save, the contents of the file is updated 
successfully, but I get an error dialog with the following message:

     sftp://ben@my.host.com.au:22/my/file.php:
     Cannot save: java.io.IOException: Permission denied

I believe it's the chmod line (ftp.SFtpConnection.chmod) that is 
producing that error - indeed, I can't chmod the files in a ssh terminal 
either (which is expected behaviour).

I know jEdit has some kind of permissions-maintaining code in it's save 
routine. I guess the question is, is this a problem with the FTP plugin, 
or with jEdit? Is there any way I can stop jEdit and/or the FTP plugin 
from trying to execute the chmod?

Possibly relevant info: Client - Windows XP (not SP2), Sun J2RE 
1.4.2_04, jEdit 4.2pre15, FTP Plugin 0.7.2; Server - Redhat 7.2, ext3 
filesystem.

Recently I tried compiling a few plugins from source and noticed that 
their build files have very little in common. In particular, they have 
very different ways of locating the jEdit core classes. Some search a 
hard-coded relative path, others require a hard-coded absolute path, 
and others don't have any paths and require jedit.jar to be in the 
CLASSPATH. Because of this, it took me quite awhile to compile just a 
few plugins because I had to tweak all of their build files.

It would be nice if the plugins were unified so that they located the 
jEdit core classes by the same technique. For instance, there could be 
a build.properties file in the plugin module's root directory that 
stores the location of the core classes. The plugin build files could 
then use the property to find the classes. Would this be the best 
solution, or is there a better way? On second thought, is unifying the 
plugin build files just a waste of time?
