I use jedit to edit DocBook XML files.

Versions: jedit 4.4.2 with Sun Java 1.6.0-22, XML Plugin version 2.8.0)
Platform: openSUSE 12.1, 64 bit
 
I have configured a hard word wrap at 80 characters (in the global preferences), but jedit does not seem to honor those settings: 

When reformatting the text with "Plugins > XML > Indent XML", jedit gives me a nicely formatted XML, but does not wrap the line at 80 characters. This does not only occur in deeply nested structures  (or in case an element happens to be at the word wrap margin), but also in simple paras without other elements inside, just containing text).

When using "Edit > Text > Format Paragraph" instead, this reformat action _does_ honor the
word wrap settings, but unfortunately also gets rid of any XML  indentation the para had had before...

(the second bit might rather belong to jEdit core, please transfer to there, if appropriate).

1. Clarification: no one changed it, only my browser did update.

2. There is a repository in svn holding www files. Some people know about
it, some don't and edit html directly on server. I hope files don't get
overwritten this way. It's a confirmation that a project needs
documentation.

I have a doubt on something : the bug was introduced in rev 20610, about backward search, but in fact I think backward search never happens with directory search, so I'm not sure that code is really useful here.

Summary: Replace All in Directory does not work

The 5.0 builds of jEdit do not replace text correctly when using the Search And Replace dialog - Replace All in directory. 

It used to be that all occurrences in the files of given directory were replaced and files where replacement happened opened if they were not open before. 

Now the find function works ok, the hypersearch table lists all files and occurrences found, but when using Replace All, the replacement happens only in the current buffer - if it is in target directory. The rest remain unchanged.

The XSearch plugin behaves like this too.

just switch between 2 projects that have a few open .java files, and I am
using java sidekick too. activity log and 3rd thread dump attached.

Problem:
Commando file names with underscore does not work with the Compile&Run function.

Environment:
jEdit 4.4.1 with Java 1.6.0-23 on Solaris 10. Console 4.4.3.

Details:
I have a commando file named SCUTE80_runtest.xml. Running the commando from Plugins > Console > Commands or through a shortcut (directly to the commando) works fine.

However, when I add the commando as the "Interpreter" for my "pascald80" mode in Plugins > Plugin Options > Console > Compile&Run, and then select Plugins > Console > Run Current Buffer, I get an error dialog titled "Unknown Commando Panel" with the message "Unknown commando: SCUTE80_runtest".

If I remove the underscore from the commando file name it works fine. Seems like the Console confuses itself when replacing underscore with space in the commando name.

This view apears to me very usable, if it would have enabled the use of the
'Error Patterns' called 'Filename' and 'Line number'.

The actual behaviour of ErrorList makes it much more difficult to fix errors. 
That hits me very often (using Ruby).

I wished, that Console would search user-defined Commando files not only in jEdit's settings directory but also in a second directory. 

This could be a hard coded directory under jEdit home or maybe configurable. At least for maintaining a jEdit installation in a LAN this would be really a good thing.

ErrorList currently groups errors under the file in which they are
reported. Which means, if I have output lines specifying errors, in the
following order:
  File Line
  c.c  20
  b.c  30
  c.c  10
Then both errors from 'c.c' will be grouped under the same parent in
ErrorList. In order to maintain the original order, ErrorList needs to
either flatten the tree so that each error node specifies also the file,
or, alternatively, have multiple nodes at the top level (file level)
referring to the same file. Both solutions do not seem to be very
convenient - e.g. for the above example there will be 2 nodes for 'c.c'
with 'b.c' between them.

I can implement this, but I think it's not the right way to handle the real
issue - which is grouping several source code links under a single error
(e.g. syntax error in file:line, including from file:line, included from
file:line), and then at some point we'll want to handle it correctly and
this feature of preserve error order will be neglected. However, handling
this issue correctly also needs to take part in the Console plugin, which I
don't think is currently ready to group such messages, if ErrorList had the
API for that.

I try several combinations of key, but it seems that the OK button always takes the priority over the newline.

Since I don't like to keep every interpreter in the system path of my Windows box, I had to hack a python commando file so that it includes the full interpreter path. But because of the way the Console plugin evaluates the command line with "cmd /c" and because of the way cmd.exe handles quotes, I cannot simply make the commando script build a command like this:

  "C:\Arquivos de programas\Python 2.5\python.exe" -t "D:\Profiles\Aurelio\Meus documentos\Bin\fixmigrations.py"

To execute that with "cmd /c" I need to write:

  cmd /c """"C:\Arquivos de programas\Python 2.5\python.exe""" -t ^"D:\Profiles\Aurelio\Meus documentos\Bin\fixmigrations.py^""

However, if I make the command like that (without the leading "cmd /c") Console throws an exception when executing it:

  java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: 0

It looks like Console tries to handle the already built string in some strange way, because, if I put a space after the first quote:

  " """C:\Arquivos de programas\Python 2.5\python.exe""" -t ^"D:\Profiles\Aurelio\Meus documentos\Bin\fixmigrations.py^""

the plugin doesn't throw any exception, but the command line it sends to the operating system becomes seriously corrupted (taken from Process Monitor):

  cmd /c " "  C:\Arquivos de programas\Python 2.5\python.exe  " -t  ^" D:\Profiles\Aurelio\Meus documentos\Bin\fixmigrations.py^ " "

Sometimes the command I want to repeat in Console Plugin escapes to the position last before last (arrow up twice). So I have to use several keystrokes to fire it again. I would like a command that does the job, so that I could have a shortcut for it.

It happens for example when I save ant's build file. Then a command "=24" is generated which obscures my last build command (e.g. !jar).
If one executes always 2 commands in a sequence, then the new suggested command would also help him.

3rd Last Command could also be usable, maybe. I doubt if more could be needed.

I guess what I want is not available as a macro. But if it was, then the problem would be solved.

feature request. So I would agree to a minimum priority or even to close it

Anyway if someone repeats frequently 2 commands in a row, he could use such

I was thinking !2 to signify the 2nd last command and !3 to be the 3rd last
command in the history, etc... so !1 would be the most recent command. Does
that make sense?

With the console plugin I get two problems:

1. You can't have a space in a path, a pain on widows since commands are in Program Files (note space)

2. It doesn't remember any corrections you make to its fields, you have to make the corrections each time the command is run. EG when running Javac for example and you change the path or the classpath these changes are not remembered

You can customize the commando.xml files quite easily by right-clicking on
the button and saying "customize".
If you want to experiment and determine where the right places are to put
quotes, you can submit a patch and I'll review it.

The version are: jEdit is 4.3pre8, console , command javac for path
remembering problem (see below), and scalac for space problem (see below),
java version , windows XP sp2.

I will use javac for an example of the remembering problem. javac remembers
some things but not others. EG it remembers the no warn flag but not the
source path. If I change the source path by adding an extra directory say,
then run the command again it forgets the change. See below:

On the first run I added examples to the source path and it forgot this on
the second run. Both runs were via the javac button in the toolbar.

This may well be a feature, but it surprised me.

For the space problem I had a problem with scalac, this is the compiler for
the language scala. Since this isn't from jedit.org I suspect that this may
be a problem with the scala plugin to jedit. In particular javac surrounds
everything in quotes whereas scalac doesn't.

What version of Console? What version of jEdit? What commando command are
you trying to use? 
Please be specific about the path you wish to try. It could be a bug in one
specific commando file  or it could be more systemic. 

For me, it does remember the settings of previous executions, so I can not
reproduce either of your problems at the moment.
