Far from being about exclusivity, the passage is about the wide net Jesus was casting, and still casts to this day. The Samarian woman (at the well) was stunned that Jesus had approached her, because at that time, the Samarians of the Samaritan sect were considered inferior to the Jews, untouchables, you might say. Jesus' reply to her, "salvation is of the Jews" was His acknowledgement that yeah, that's the way it's been, but look what Jesus says to her in the very next verse:
