My minor complaint is your reference to Trump as a draft dodger. I met several draft dodgers from the mid 60s on, some opposing war in general, some not. Trump was diagnosed with bone spurs and received a medical exemption. While there is a lot of chatter about whether the diagnosis was correct or if you prefer, legitimate, there is no evidence of fraud or medical malfeasance, of which I am aware. As with the Epstein Files, making evidence free accusations about Trump, however objectionable he may be, detracts from your otherwise excellent article.

4. Nor can the nation survive as a nation of the people if business are continually bailed out — especially when their conduct was careless and violated the least of best practices and shattering the the whole.

5. While the mid east adventures were damaging they need not be so catastrophic events as without repair. The Mideast is just not a threat to US interests. And given the support for Israel, her cries of being at constant threat are a constant more imagined than real. That she is experiencing retaliation for her wayward conduct is cause for her to reconsider her own conduct among her neighbors, a not a full frontal assault on the US dime. Her spying and aggression has cost US lives and damaged US security interests. Her intel on Iraq and Afghanistan — abominable.

6. NATO was never intended to be main stayed by the US. The goal was for Europe to eventually be the primary holder of defense mechanism. It is correct to call them out on their shortchanging their own defense. While we always intended to be a part of that alliance — our own demands has created a dependency as opposed to a partnership. However, it is what it is and we can ill afford to abandon the alliance – given Russian and Chinese posturing. And the US ought to support Ukraine without question. It comes at an inopportune time, but that is really just a void that Russia is exploiting. The US and Europe could forestalled this by moving swiftly early on. Ukraine has proven to be a formidable defense partner and we should seal that deal, forthwith.

7. Pres Trump is correct if he is considering a world in which the US might have to go it alone and preparing for that possibility. That does not mean that antagonizing our foreign relation partners makes any sense. The goal is tp prepare to be alone — not force the matter as though it is inevitable. Even if that may one day be the case.

8. Africa remains the crown jewel of natural resources as a practical matter — we had better consider whether we want others to be the sole trading partners with the continent.

9. I hate to be blatantly politically incorrect, but the real shifts in the countries sociology is not black men – its women, primarily white women, who by and large are demanding space and have gotten through a host of formal and informal affirmative action avenues. That has always been the case and some of that advance has been beneficial – the damage has been ignored or politely dismissed, afterall, who wants to go to bed with angry wife, mistress, girlfriends or daughter — more importantly is it still maintains the power dynamic set to form with just new players culling and eating off the system.

10. The president’s consolidating power and exercising it with abandon, is only a concern, because we are not really in a wartime footing. The hopscotch about drugs notwithstanding. Let’s be honest the real drug trafficking is from the gulf through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and California. The truck is on its 3rd set of tires, which are still like new. The front end of the truck has never been aligned and every set of tires has given 100,000+ (160,934 kilometers) miles. The truck is on its 3rd battery and 3rd alternator (bearings). The truck is on its 2nd radiator and a couple of years ago, I finally had to replace the starter motor. The truck still has its original water pump and it still drives “straight as an arrow.”

I mis-stated the number of sets of tires in my post. The truck is now on its 4th set of tires. For YOUR information…

I am looking at the RECEIPT that was given to me when the 2nd set of tires was installed. The date on the receipt is September 26, 2001 and the MILEAGE listed on the receipt is shown as 107,086 miles. It was for a set of Uniroyal® “Laredo” tires, the exact same kind of tire that was supplied on the truck when I purchased it new from the factory in 1995. That was for the 2nd set of tires.

The third set was installed on June 5, 2012 and the recorded mileage being 221,814 miles – meaning that the 2nd set of tires had 114,728 miles on them. The Uniroyal® “Laredo” tires were no longer available in 2012, and I opted for a set of Firestone® “Transforce” tires.

The 4th set was installed on July 15, 2022 and the mileage was 290, 370 at the time of the installation. I do not know why the 3rd set only had 68,556 miles on them when I replaced them, except that I had changed brands of tires and, of course, the front end of the truck was possibly becoming worn, due to the miles of service on it and the age of the truck.
