Hello, Philippe Andersson said on Mon, Feb 04, 2019 at 02:44:30PM +0100: >> However, it won't recreate crypted FS at restore time. >That's what I was afraid of, indeed. After having booted the machine on >the newly generated ISO (in "expert" mode), I called "mr-mount-me" just >to check whether I could access the filesystems on the HDD (those are >still intact, I've not attempted any restore yet). The unencrypted >filesystem (/) mounted fine and I could access it as expected. But all >the encrypted ones failed to mount with error messages similar to the >following one: > >-----------------------<cut>-------------------------- >mount: /mnt/RESTORING/home: special device /dev/dm-8 does not exist. >Failed to mount /dev/dm-8 >I think I failed to mount /dev/dm-8 >-----------------------<cut>-------------------------- yep sounds correct due to the lack of support. >Arguably, I could try to recreate the logical volumes and encrypted >filesystems manually, and then recover the data in interactive mode, but >"cryptsetup" doesn't seem to be part of the boot environment. That's "easy" to deal with. Add to your /etc/mindi/deplist.txt file all the tools you need at restore time. You would also probably need a kernel module, so you should also add it to /etc/mindi/mindi.conf FORCE_MODS variable. Then, if you tell me what steps you have to do at restore time, and alsoprovide the archive log, I could add that to what mindi does so it's performed more automatically. >> As I see you're in Belgium, I'll be at Fosdem this week-end so feel >> free to see me there if you're around yourself. >I read your email only this morning, unfortunately. I'm really sorry I >missed this opportunity to meet you face-to-face. It would have been my >pleasure to treat you to a couple of Belgian beers ;-) I hope the >occasion present itself again. You're lucky, I'm not drinking beer, but eat wafles ;- Hopefully see you another time. Philippe Andersson said on Fri, Feb 01, 2019 at 05:31:42PM +0100: >Quick question, as I've not been able to find an answer online: does >MondoRescue (the latest 3.3.0 test build, s3697M) support LUKS-encrypted >filesystems (on top of LVM in my case)? As I've ever done anything to support it, I'd guess that the answer is no. Now I'd need to look at it more closely to provide a better answer. >I've been able to successfully generate the ISO image using >mondoarchive, but I thought I would ask before nuking the machine for a >test restore. If your FS were decrypted, then you have a correct backup. However, it won't recreate crypted FS at restore time. As I see you're in Belgium, I'll be at Fosdem this week-end so feel free to see me there if you're around yourself.
