Just tried configuring mondo-1.75 with-x11. It fails with the error that it cannot find Qt>=3.0.3. However: #rpm -qa|grep qt qt-3.3.2-2 qt-devel-3.3.2-2 This is on Fedora Core 2. I attach a compressed config.log. My contact with Qt has been minimal, so all suggestions are welcome. -- Graham Campbell gc...@bn... |

Hi Mark, Thank you. Your instructions worked like a charm. Thanks! -paul -------- Message: 2 Date: Tue, 25 May 2004 14:48:37 -0700 From: Mark Nienberg <ma...@ti...> Organization: Tipping Mar + associates To: mon...@li... Subject: Re: [Mondo-devel] mondo restore fails with "GRUB _" error Reply-To: mon...@li... Restores with the GRUB boot loader can be problematic due to bugs in GRUB (not mondo's fault). That said, the latest snapshots have gotten better at trying different methods until a GRUB install is successful. Your log looks like it came from an older version, so unless you are restoring after a disaster, I suggest trying the latest unstable snapshots. If you must restore from your current mondoarchive, then try this: 1. Boot from the CD into Expert Mode. 2. Type:- # mount-me # chroot /mnt/RESTORING # grub-install # exit # unmount-me 3. Reboot. If you want to stick with GRUB as your boot loader, I recommend always having a boot floppy at the ready, just in case. Mark Nienberg Pau...@id... wrote: > > Restore fails. Dear Mondo Team!! I am having a spot of bother getting mondoarchive to complete a backup run on my machine. Any help would really be appreciated. Many thanks, Alex THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Having set mondoarchive running (see the next section on how I called mondoarchive) it proceded to chug away for a few hours. It was able to process and complete each iso image until it reached number 4 and then it exits with: ---FATALERROR--- Hard disk full. You should have bought a bigger one. -------FATAL ERROR--------- Hard disk full. You should have bought a bigger one. Unregistering PID SIGTERM signal received from OS Mondoarchive is terminating in response to a signal from the OS ------------------------------------------------ This is surely not possible as I have an 80GB disk and each partition has at LEAST 2.5GB free and the partition that has the mondo scratch directories has 34G free. The only weird thing I have noticed is this early on in the process: scratchdir = '/home/mondo.scratch.29364' tmpdir = '/home/tmp.mondo.17676' Mondo actually places an error on this when setting up the backup run and says that because /tmp is not mounted on a specific partition it is placing the scratch and tmp in /home. Could this be causing mondo to try to backup the contents of the tmp and scratch folders because they were included in /home which I had asked to be backed up? This could then cause a rolling expansion of files until the disk is full? Can I change the tmpdir and scratchdir? I hope I have included sufficient info for you to help me. HOW MY MACHINE IS SET UP AND HOW I RAN MONDOARCHIVE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have installed mondo-1.67-mdk91.i586.rpm and mindi-0.87-1.i386.rpm on to my Mandrake 9.1 Powerpack. The install ran smoothly. My Disk looks like this: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hda1 9.8G 2.0G 7.4G 22% / /dev/hda7 40G 5.4G 34G 14% /home none 173M 692K 172M 1% /tmp /dev/hda6 6.9G 3.9G 2.6G 60% /vm /dev/hda8 17G 5.5G 11G 35% /backup I ran mondoarchive as root in single user mode and used the user interface to set up a backup to Hard disk. I chose to backup /etc /root /var and /home and I excluded /vm and /backup. I set /backup/27-05-2004-full to be the destination for the images. Any advice or information much appreciated ! It's a boot disk plus a few more disks of important utilities for the restore environment. It does not contain any of your data (don't let the name "data disks" fool you :-) You will probably need between 3-8 floppies depending on your distro. You do not need to write them if your machine can boot from a CD. -- Josh |

Am I using the wrong flags ? You should use mondoarchive -Vid /path/to/iso/imgs if you're verifying "live" (e.g. not from the CD). > > Also is it necessary to make a boot floppy disk every time I do a backup ? > Is it ok to make a floppy disk one time and keep that for all future backups > ? The CD (/root/images/mindi/mindi.iso, in case of a pure hard drive backup, or if you burn the CDs to CDs then CD #1) has the boot floppy info on it. Use the flag -F to prevent Mondo from asking you about boot floppies. If you do need a boot floppy, you need to update it whenever your system configuration (partitions, filesystems, or vital utilities in /bin /sbin /usr/bin /usr/sbin /lib /usr/lib) changes. Probably not every backup, if you back up often enough :-) |

Why do you want this file on the CD? Mindi doesn't support this directly. (I may add it, now that I know there's a need for it :-) In the meantime: # mount -o loop mindi.iso /mnt/cdrom # cd /mnt/cdrom # mkisofs -U -J -r -b images/mindi*2880* -c images/boot2.cat -graft-points . file-name-on-cd=/path/to/file -o /place/to/put/new/image.iso Not sure if it will work, but it's worth a try. -- Josh |

Good Morning (or evening), Could anybody please give me a little bit of advice with mondo and crontab ? I am running mondoarchive with flags so that it requires no intervention. It backs up the entire system onto a NFS mounted directory in ISO format. If I launch the command manually it works great. A few hours later and with no intervention it backs everything up and returns to the command prompt fine. So when I try and do the same thing with the command inserted in my crontab it doesn't seem to work. I can see in the cron logs it fires up fine but ps xa shows nothing nor do I eventually get a mondo-archive.log that can give me any information on whats gone wrong. Does anybody have any advice or pointers for me ? Much appreciated ! Kind Regards Sylvan |

mondo to ISOes first then if that fails you can blame mondo. mondoarchive -Oi -F -9 -s 4200m -I /home -d /someplace/else if this works then try mondoarchive -Or -F -9 -s 4200m -I /home -d /dev/dvdramdrive and logs help, really they are important! --- Matthew Brett <mat...@ya...> wrote: > Hi, > > I am just trying to backup some of my system to > DVD-RAM using a disk and script that worked without > problems previously. Hi,
I am just trying to backup some of my system to
DVD-RAM using a disk and script that worked without
problems previously. The disk appears to have gone
into an endless loop, and has so far taken 13 hours,
reporting another 10 hours to go, in writing the disk.
When I kill mondo, the disk continues to spin and
sound as if it is attempting to write, requiring a
reboot to fix.
The only changes to my system since my last backup are
- installation of a very recent mondo/mindi:
mondo-1.75_cvs_20040524-mdk100
mindi-0.95_cvs_20040524-1
and upgrade to Mandrake 10.0 official from Mandrake
9.2:
Kernel 2.6.3-13mdkenterprise
The command I used for the backup was:
mondoarchive -Or -d /dev/hda -gF -9 -s 4380m \
-I "/home " \
-S /data1/tmp -T /data1/tmp
and the dvd write line executed by mondo was:
'mkisofs -J -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -b
isolinux.bin --boot-info-table -c boot.cat
-boot-load-size 4 -r -p MondoRescue -P
www.mondorescue.org -A Mondo_Rescue_GPL_Version -V 1
-v . | builtin_dd of=/dev/hda obs=32k seek=0'
I am puzzled that this worked previously, but does no
longer.
Thanks a lot,
Matthew

Hi there, my good ole buddy Justin Case reminded me to ask you guys this one: If I have a Mondo-Archive (say on CD-RWs) and the CDs boot and the compare run goes smoothly (except for missing removable media mounts - which is OK, and some "uncritical" logfile differences). - Can I than assume, that everything is fine for the "worst case" or is there any other step of validation that is recommended befor you think you may sleep safely? TIA Stefan. |

What do you have in mind, when you say "something"?
