Hello again, I had some time to fix the first problem (output from fdisk -l for lvm volumes). I posted a bug report with a patch to trac: http://trac.mondorescue.org/ticket/652 Joel Kociolek, France Création. Hello,
You can install :
afio-2.5-64.x86_64.rpm
buffer-1.19-740.x86_64.rpm
mindi-2.1.3-1.sles10.x86_64.rpm
mindi-busybox-1.18.5-1.sles10.x86_64.rpm
mondo-3.0.2-1.sles10.x86_64.rpm
I installed in the following order :
1 : afio
2 : mindi-busybox
3 : mindi
4 : buffer
5 : mondo
I also had to install libnewt.so and newt rpm before mondo.
Regards, Didier

Subject: [Mondo-devel] installation of Mondo Rescue
I am wanting to install Mondo on my Suse Linux 10 sp3 box 64bit.
I understand I need to install mindi-busybox first, then mindi and finally
mondo
I am looking in the sles/10/x86_64 on the ftp site and was wondering what
versions of each I need to install for a first time install.
Is there anything else I should have preinstalled beforehand also?
Thank you for your time.

Hi there Usually our servers have only two internal hard drives. Configured as a hardware raid mirror. Additional storage comes from NFS or SAN. There are a few exceptions of course, which have additional local storage. I'm backing up with the following arguments to mondoarchive: # mondoarchive -OVi -d $backup_dir -I $backup_dev -p `hostname -s` -S /dev/shm -T /dev/shm -G -N -s 4g $backup_dir is a nfs directory to a backup server. $backup_dev is /dev/cciss/c0d0 This is the PV from our sysvg1 LVM volume group. Additional storage is always in a datavg1 volume group and may be /dev/cciss/c0d1 or d2 and so on. So the backup always only contains the pv from sysvg1 which is /dev/cciss/c0d0. Now when restoring, all disks and partitions get reformatted even if they don't belong to the backup. (at least that's what I'm experiencing) So I thought I'd just physically remove the additional disks from datavg1 during the restore. Then it fails to partition these disks because they are in the mount list. Removing them from the mount list doesn't seem to help. If I leave the disks in place they get nuked and we'd have to restore the data from our file level backups. Is there a way we can work around this? I thought removing them from the mount list should work? Hello, I don't use -k FAILSAFE. I just tried it because I had a kernel panic problem when restoring a backup made with mindi-busybox 1.18.3 and I read the FAQ. However, in the meantime going to 1.18.5 solved this problem. I just wanted to report the bug that I had found. I would be happy to test with mindi 2.1.3, however it's still not available prebuilt for Ubuntu 12.04 and I don't have time to build it myself. Should I post this problem to trac? Same question concerning the spurious message from fdisk about lvm that I get every night since upgrading Ubuntu version: should I post it to trac? I'd be glad to help solve it (I have both strong admin and dev experience), however I don't have lots of time and don't know where to start. If someone could give me a heads-up it would really help.

Hi, I'm using the latest versions of the stable mondo/mindi packages and am having problems restoring sparse files. Using either afio or star on RHEL5 the sparse files appear to be getting restored with their full length occupied on the filesystem (rather than being sparse). There was a trac opened for this a while back but this was closed as mondoarchive now support the star archive option. The TODO suggests that star performance was bad and that afio should be preferred. Is there any way to support sparse files in mondorescue or is there anyway to pass the --sparse option to star? Thanks, Bob |

Hi, In the mondo busybox shell (Alt-F2 or Alt-F3, etc.) you can see the commands embedded in busybox through the command: # busybox Here is an example of tftp transfer tftp transfer, from the mondo busybox shell to a tftp server * # ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up (if necessary) * # ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 (if necessary) * # cd /var/log * # tftp -p -l mondorestore.log tftp_server_ip_address tftp server setup (RHEL 4) * # mkdir /tmp/tftp ; chmod 777 /tmp/tftp * # /usr/sbin/in.tftpd -v -l -c -s /tmp/tftp * If tftp server -c option is not used, tftp command can return "tftp: server error: (1) File not found", a solution is to have a file with the same name and with the write right set (otherwise another error could occur) in the tftp server directory : # touch /tmp/tftp/mondorestore.log ; chmod 777 /tmp/tftp/mondorestore.log Otherwise you can also mount a NFS directory exported by a NFS server, and copy mondorestore.log to it. During restore, it's possible to shift to a busybox shell through Alt-F2 or Alt-F3, etc. (Alt-F1 will allow you later to return to mondorestore GUI screen), then you can save mondorestore.log by tftp it to a tftp server. If you need more details I can email it. Another solution : if you connected an USB key before making a choice in the "mondorestore choice menu" (interactive, compare, expert...), through a new shell (Alt-F2 or Alt-F3, etc.) you should be able to create a directory, mount the vfat USB key on it, and copy the /var/log/mondorestore.log file to the USB key. As the only other box in the house right now is windows 7 i setup a tftp server on it. Also tried a tftp client ---> mondo rescue but get connection refused of coarse didnt really expect that to work. Thought about trying scp but not sure what to user for a username and password on the mondo box or it would even work. cant go the other way because i have windows Guess the instructions you promised might come in handy about now PS i might have a ubuntu machine around somewhere if i really need it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Victor Gattegno (CPR&Q GCC - ISS/SW Tower)" <victor_ gattegno @hp.com> To: " Mondo mailing list" < mondo -devel@lists. sourceforge .net> Sent: Wednesday, 3 October, 2012 11:40:11 AM Subject: Re: [ Mondo -devel] lvm to smaller drive possible? Hello, The mondorestore .log, and eventually the mondoarchive .log (included in your backup), could help. During restore, it's possible to shift to a busybox shell through Alt-F2 or Alt-F3, etc. (Alt-F1 will allow you later to return to mondorestore GUI screen), then you can save mondorestore .log by tftp it to a tftp server. If you need more details I can email it. Another solution : if you connected an USB key before making a choice in the " mondorestore choice menu" (interactive, compare, expert...), through a new shell (Alt-F2 or Alt-F3, etc.) you should be able to create a directory, mount the vfat USB key on it, and copy the /var/log/ mondorestore .log file to the USB key.
