Well, I seem to have hacked around it... * Added -R (for star) * Added -z (because I figured it couldn't hurt, and likely should have been on) * Added /var/log/lastlog to the exclusion list (it was the only file over 3 gig in size on the entire file system, and it's a sparse file I don't mind "losing" if I restore from backup) * Changed to -s 20000m (I'm *guessing* the 'g' for gig doesn't actually work correctly.) The backup now fits in a single ISO image, *and* runs without errors or warnings. A side note, the ISO images are rsync'd to an SMB share after encryption, and copied to an offsite drive. I never intend them to be burnt to physical media. For restore I'd mount as a drive in a virtual machine, or copy to a USB stick. I could/should have considered upgrading to a newer version as the first step possibly. Thanks for your comments |

I'm not sure if the 'KB' rather than 'MB' in the message is an error, or it doesn't recognise '4400m' as 4400 meg.
Either way, it should be able to split large files so that they fit any specified size as far as I know. I've had other systems run to 30 or so 650 meg isos....

The error in the log indicates the system working on a bzip2 archive file that's larger than the size of the target media: File ./archives/56.afio.bz2 is larger than 4GiB-1. Note that mondoarchive doesn't split files, it relies on the underlying genisofs-like program (genisofs, mkisofs) to do it, so you need to pass the appropriate flag to that program to have it split such files. This can also cause problems on restore as I'm not sure the restoration process would know how to stitch split files back together. On top of that, I don't know the mondoarchive flag to specify additional parameters to genisofs/mkisofs (could be handy in some cases such as this). Hopefully, Bruno can elucidate. > Am 9. Thank you for the hint, but it's still failing "Warning! CD is too big. It occupies 4916060 KB, which is more than the 4400 KB" I'm not sure if the 'KB' rather than 'MB' in the message is an error, or it doesn't recognise '4400m' as 4400 meg. Either way, it should be able to split large files so that they fit any specified size as far as I know. I've had other systems run to 30 or so 650 meg isos.... Dear All, attached you will find a log of restoring a full backup to the same system. As it could be seen on different systems, mondorestore explains about error to restore the partition table. The system was a legacy bios setup! Please give me a hint, how to fix the issues. Thanks a lot Josef |

The image is a bootable media which contains a minimal OS to restore all your system iditencally as the original.
