Just for the fun of it, I tried the CD install. No errors or complaints. I have to pick my time for full backup as it is a production server. Thanks for your help and fine work. Randy |

That's a message left on a bugzilla. That's as bad as asking me for technical support via mondorescue.org's guest book (which people do, by the way). Your first message on this subject was, "Are there any news regarding the Gentoo scripts?" Well, now that you've found the Mondo package maintainer at Gentoo, you should go to him for news, surely? :) After all, I've published the source code. Surely the job of the Mondo package maintainer at Gentoo is to wrap that source code up in a nice package? Then you said, "I appreciate your willingness to help; I also understand that you don't want to write/maintain the ebuild ... but I simply don't know how to do it." Very well. That means we need someone at Gentoo to offer to maintain a Mondo package for that distro. Wait! Someone already has. Isn't that great? :) I'm sure you'll want to contact him (you have his details, I gather) and ask him how it's going. > I get your point. And I understand your frustration. But I think that is > an issue you should address to John as he represents Gentoo. Wait a minute... You're the one who wants Mondo for Gentoo. Why am I contacting John, when you want the packages? I'm confused. -Hugo |

No... but you could always make sure your include list contains all the right files & none of the wrong ones. :) # find / | grep -vx /proc | grep -vx /tmp | grep -vx /kazaa > /tmp/filelist.mine # mondoarchive -J /tmp/filelist.mine [...] -Hugo |

Either a) Use the Mondo Installer CD, which sorts out the softlinks and dependencies for you; or b) Use Mike Roark's Newt and Slang RPMs. Of course, if you would like to contact SuSE & ask them to fix their Newt and Slang RPMs, that would be great too. -Hugo > -----Original Message----- > From: mon...@li... > [mailto:mon...@li...]On Behalf Of Andrei > Verovski (aka MacGuru) > Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2004 9:18 AM > To: mon...@li... > Subject: [Mondo-devel] Again link problem with Mondo on SuSE 9.1 > > > Hi, > > Just downloaded new Mondo 2.02 for SuSE 9.1. I am unclear after looking at the website if Mondo will work with FC 2. I had no trouble with RH 9. I just need a little guidance. Thanks, Randy |

It's available either on http from my webpage, or ftp. I just made sure
it was there..

Yes, you don't have newt 0.50 installed. I guess that you downloaded the
one from Hugo's site. That's fine. Install the newt from the
distribution, and it will work. Just don't be surprised when it
segfaults on restore. Or even during the backup if you use the gui
interface.
Here's how it works. When the program is compiled it references whatever
version of newt is available on that particular system. Hugo's is 0.50,
and mine is 0.51. I know it works, and even supply it. However you
don't think my download is fast enough for you, so you chose to
download elsewhere. Your choice.

I seem to remember a discussion on a too long list for the -E flag. I found the -J switch but that seems to be a replacement for -I (ie. filelist to include). Is there a matching switch for a big _exclude_ list? mondo-2.x It's not available for mondo-1.6x I presume... And in the same way that I am currently unable to write these scripts myself, there are for sure also things, you don't do yourself because you lack the skills. All I do is trying to help you by facilitating to get those guys in touch with you, that can help you. - That's at least something, isn't it? Regards, Stefan. |

Mondo 2.0x (formerly 1.7x) hasn't handled multi-level differential backups since September 2003, perhaps even earlier. It was abandoned when 'mondo-makefilelist' (the shell script) was abandoned. If someone feels strongly enough, I'm sure they'll re-introduce it. This is an Open Source project & therefore the source code is right there for anyone who feels inclined to modify it. -Hugo > -----Original Message----- > From: mon...@li... > [mailto:mon...@li...]On Behalf Of Conor Daly > Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2004 1:38 AM > To: Mondo List > Subject: [Mondo-devel] New timestamp files? > > > Running mondo-2.02, I notice that /var/cache/mondo-archive no longer > contains 'last-backup' as a timestamp. Running mondo-2.02, I notice that /var/cache/mondo-archive no longer contains 'last-backup' as a timestamp. Instead there exists 'difflevel.0'. Can you confirm that this is the new timestamp? Can I use it as I was using last-backup to make a third differential level? Does the '0' after the name 'difflevel' suggest to anynoe else that there could exist 'difflevel.1'? Is this wishlist rather than reality yet? I've been doing the following with last-backup on a machine running mondo-1.65 which I want to upgrade to 2.02: Full: mondoarchive -O ... copy last-backup to last-full-backup Differential level 1: copy last-full-backup to last-backup mondoarchive -D -O ... copy last-backup to last-diff-backup Differential level 2: copy last-diff-backup to last-backup mondoarchive -D -O ... Full does the whole machine. Differential level 1 does everything since Full. Differential level 2 does everything since Differential level 1. I do this 'cos the machine is backed up to CDRW via cron nightly and I need a method to keep the nightly to 1 CDRW. Running a diff level 1 from time to time keeps the nightly small and I end up with a 12xCD full, a 2-3xCDRW diff and a 5-night rolling 1xCDRW diff. The script which handles this for mondo-1.6x is at: http://www.cod.utvinternet.com/download/mondo-backup/mondo-backup.sh Conor -- Conor Daly, Please avoid sending me Met Eireann, Glasnevin Hill, Word or PowerPoint attachments. No-one from Gentoo has contacted me for months - or, if they have, they haven't identified themselves or offered to produce Gentoo packages. Do you realize how insulting it is when people take a program:- - available for free - whose source is available for free ...and fail miserably to even TRY to re-package it for another distro, instead contacting me & asking me to do it (or asking me to ask others to do it)? You'll continue "eagerly looking forward" like the French Lieutenant's Woman until you (or someone like you) can find the time to help me. Must I re-package Mondo for every major Linux distro single-handedly? -Hugo |

In this case, I've worked around the problem by using fdisk itself (not 'dd') to blank the partition table. It's more elegant & it reduces the risk of lock-ups. Mondo 2.03 will contain this new code. > Generally you REALLY have to reboot so that the system reads the new > partition layout. I don't think it's linked to the number of times, but rather to the fact=20 that the disk is in use or not by the kernel. If you mounted something from one disk and want to change the partition table of that same disk, then you get this message. Generally you REALLY have to reboot so that the system reads the new partition layout. Which device should I specify for the TR3 (as floppy)? Backup fails to begin properly with interactive "mondoarchive." With tar I can write to /dev/qft0, but mondo does not appear to be able to do so. Why not? |

Thanks for the info. I didn't know this. And for the time that I used
it, I had no problems. I still have the backup for my 9.0. Just might
have to see what happens if I try a restore with the raid..

Hmmm ... No reply at all ... Taking another tack, I notice the file list (RPMs, spec, etc.) for RHEL 3.0 includes : lzop-1.01-1mdk.i586 I can't find anything like that. Subject: [Mondo-devel] Mondo-Rescue 1.xx for Red Hat RHEL 3.0 ? I did lots of successful work with Mondo-Rescue 1.6x on earlier releases of Red Hat Linux. Now I need to test using RHEL 3.0 . The software download URL=20 http://www.mondorescue.org/download/MondoCD/index.html seems to provide only version 2.01 Mondo-Rescue software for RHEL 3.0 , and several attempts with that version have not yet created a bootable recovery CD .
