Hello, sorry for the late feedback. Unfortunately, even with the "|" separator, mondo still ignores the FS exclusion. A MIRACLE..!! - I think it actually worked.... it asked a couple of time for CD 2 but it finally continued. Hello, I recently installed and ran "mondoarchive" on my Scientific Linux 6.4 headless server to create ISO backups of the machine. To test those images, I tried to boot into them via a VirtualBox 4.3 virtual machine and tried both the nuke and interactive options. In both cases, lots of text quickly scrolled by and stopped with a "sh: can't access tty: job control turned off" error. See attached screenshot. I wanted to get the log file, but I was unable to mount neither a virtual hard disk nor a floppy because the mount command doesn't seem to recognise the ext3 filesystem??? The only thing that appears relevant from a web search appears to be this: http://trac.mondorescue.org/ticket/424 But it is a closed bug ticket.... Is there anything I can do to try to troubleshoot this problem? Thanks!! |

The versions look good: mondo-3.0.4-1.rhel5 mindi-2.1.7-1.rhel5 mindi-busybox-1.18.5-3.rhel5 buffer-1.19-4.rhel5 afio-2.5-1.rhel5 I'm thinking, as the Redhat IP configuration file contains the MAC address and this won't match on the new server, Redhat will replace the config file with it's default "empty" config file? Thanks for the prompt answer! The problem is that the system is a bit old and don't support boot from USB, for example. Aditionally, it's a server with a RAID 5 array acting as local disk, so not possible to pull out and stick into another system. But the suggestion about a live system is promissing. ;-) Many thanks! Actually ... got a 64GB SD card / reader? Throw the ISO's on that and ... External hard drive? An internal hard drive you can throw in for a short time? 8GB SD Card, throw an image on, read it, remove and put the next image on ... The problem won't be the iso files, it's getting to them, and the command / invocation / what to put on input lines. Over the net, direct from disc, direct from filesystem, will all be the same to mondo. Just a matter of access and pointing. e.g. When I ran my tests, I didn't actually write any discs, just pointed mono at the network location to which they were originally written. If there's an issue with the command lines / limited interface of mondo, boot a live cd, then call mondo from within that. For that matter - you just need to get the data onto the hard drive. Can you pull the drive out of there and put it into another system with a dvd long enough to do the restore? GL&HF On 13-10-20 04:24 PM, B. S. wrote: > I'll guess not. I'll guess not. But I'm no expert, and it sounds like you need an answer now. It would have to dynamically readjust file lists, re-burn CD's, and it's just nasty. (To me, the non-expert.) There is no way to throw a dvd drive in from another box temporarily? No way to put a dvd drive into a usb enclosure, or acquire a usb dvd drive? I believe you can on the fly specify a different source for the files (over the network). You should be able to mount those iso's on a different computer, and call upon them from the system being rescued. I have no idea of the specific steps or invocation lines, but I know it to be doable. [It'd just be faster / easier to throw a dvd drive in temporarily, or permanently. I get if it's a rack mount or other special beastie, that's not possible - but having a usb dvd drive to hand may prove to be prudent, going forward.] I wish you the very best of luck - I know such situations are trying. Hi people! I need to know if there's a way to take a set of DVD sized images created by mondoarchive and rebuild them as an equivalent set of CDs. I make a backup using mondo of a system that I've always thought as having a DVD drive. It was only now that the machine crashed that I found it has only a (rather old) CD drive. So I simply can't use the "automagic" process of boot -> nuke -> happy end. ;-) If I just mount the ISO's (there's 3) is there a way of rebuild a set of bootable CDs that monorestore will accept as of being an originally generated archive? -- Thanks, Alexandre W. Managed to solve this myself. In case anyone is interested I performed the following: Not the most desirable fix but I ended up downgrading mindi and mindi-busybox to the following versions: mindi-2.1.3-1.rhel4.x86_64 mindi-busybox-1.18.5-1.rhel4.x86_64 Backup and restore now works as expected. Hi, Just FWIW, I sent in a report of Mindi creating unbootable ISOs a couple of weeks ago. I'm running: [pclark@c3po ~]$ rpm -qa | grep mondo mondo-3.0.4-1.fc18.x86_64 [pclark@c3po ~]$ rpm -qa | grep mindi mindi-2.1.7-1.fc18.x86_64 mindi-busybox-1.18.5-3.fc18.x86_64 [pclark@c3po ~]$ For me the only difference from previous versions is that it finds kernels without manual entry, it still panics with "cant find init". Hi, I've had this problem since I began using mondoarchive a few years ago. I just had to stop using the -z option. Fortunately, with the testing I've done, it hasn't affected my ability to successfully restore all of the file systems. This issue has always been more of an issue on my RHEL servers, but it will occasionally occur on a SLES server too. Bruno has tried to help by suggesting to look at all of my file names and see if I've got anything that is non-standard. I could never find any, so I just chose to eliminate the option when I do my backups. Hopes this helps a little. Using mondoarchive v3.0.4-r3177 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.10 (Tikanga) getting hangs when using -z mondoarchive -O -i -I "/" -E "/mondobackup" -d /mondobackup -N -s 4g -9 -z -p mybackup when i look at process this is what is hung [root@testhost mondo.tmp.lLRcrO]# ps -ax | grep mondo 9267 pts/2 Sl+ 0:20 mondoarchive -O -i -I / -E /mondobackup -d /mondobackup -N -s 4g -9 -z -p mybackup 9687 pts/2 S+ 0:00 sh -c gzip -c1 > /tmp/mondo.tmp.lLRcrO/acl_list.65.gz 9688 pts/2 S+ 0:00 sh -c gzip -c1 > /tmp/mondo.tmp.lLRcrO/xattr_list.66.gz if i kill the gzip process mondo continues, not using z is going to cause issues what can be done for this problem? i think you need to make a debug version that spits out error logs for gzip with stdout so the error could at least be viewed -- View this message in context: http://mondorescue-mailing-list.679749.n3.nabble.com/Mondo-devel-Mondoarchive-hangs-intermittently-tp4025460p4025953.html Sent from the MondoRescue Mailing List mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |
