Hi Paul, The issue in your mondorestore.log is: tar: can't open '/mnt/cdrom/images/all.tar.gz': No such file or directory The file all.tar.gz (generated through mondoarchive) contains busybox and some files that Mondorescue uses ; that file all.tar.gz is in mondorescue.iso. Did you booted on the mondorescue.iso file (the one that mondoarchive has put in /var/cache/mindi)? Rgds, Victor From: Das, Paul Sent: vendredi 29 janvier 2016 11:45 To: mon...@li... This is a repost with a compressed archive of the log files. Hi All: I have struggled with getting a basic archive created. It consistently seems to be related to the ramdisk that is created prior to copying it to the DVD. I have tried to change the size of the ramdisk in mindi.conf but that does not seem to help. I have included all the logs requested along with the mindi.conf file. I tried to monitor the amount used in the /dev/loop0 file and it does not seem to get close to the 5.9g (total use seems to be about 184M) though possibly this is still an issue. That last message I saw was it was verifying perl scripts and then it crashes. Bruno has the words of wisdom. However..... test, test, test. In a disaster recovery environment/exercise, we do recover from Cisco UCS hardware to HP. Depending on what hardware you're using, you may need to load other modules by force for the target environment. Good morning, all. Seems I have an opportunity to give a little more detail, as I’m recovering a system this morning due to some very odd failures. Edit /tmp/mountlist.txt to configure what volumes get mounted, from inside a mondo recovery shell. In particular, I remove all lines with “lvm lvm” listed, and any filesystems that are not included in the mondo archive. Execute mondorestore, select interactive restore, answer the repository prompts. Inspect the mount list, allow mondo to mount. In our case, we do NOT allow Mondo to partition & format, we do that manually. Ladislav, thanks for the wiki link. We’ve decommissioned all of our ServiceGuard environments, however, I suspect the techniques listed therein might be highly useful given our methods of recovery. Good afternoon, Jean, et al.
I have a very similar environment, we’ve been quite spoiled by Ignite-UX over the years.
Mondorescue appears to me to be designed as a whole system disaster recovery application. I have a Perl control script that executes mondoarchive based on current running conditions & an optional configuration file. I’ve asked for permission to disclose this script, I haven’t heard one way or the other (I’ll ping management again today.) Among other things, the control script generates arguments for the –I and –E parameters to mondoarchive to ensure that the right directories/lvols are included, and everything else is excluded. I’m not sure about the use of disk device files as values for –I and –E, I send it the mountpoints (pipe separated for multiple values.) This script has been in use for at least 3 years, the last modification was to prevent running Oracle’s Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and select the latest RH Compatible Kernel, as we’ve found it frequently breaks networking. It runs on Oracle Linux, RedHat Enterprise Linux and CentOS.
Mondoarchive writes CD sized images out to an NFS repository (which in our case, is replicated to a D/R site.) As a side note, the archive location is set up using automounter. During a D/R exercise (or event, we’ve had to use Mondo to recover when we lost an entire storage array,) we’ll copy disc #1 off the NFS repository & mount it through the appropriate console mechanism. As part of our normal system activities, all hosts maintain a directory containing data such as /etc/hosts, /etc/sysconfig/*, network configurations, disk & volume group configurations, etc. This directory is included through a file in /etc/mindi/deplist.d so that it’s available inside the mondorestore shell. Once booted, we run an expert recovery shell. Disks & volume groups are manually configured with a minimal configuration for recovery, run mondorestore, & select an interactive restore. During filesystem configuration, you’ll want to selectively remove entries that you aren’t restoring. It’s also possible to shortcut that by editing a file in /tmp (I don’t recall the name off the top of my head.)
We’ve used this method to recover servers running on Cisco hardware to HP blades during an exercise, as well as physical to virtual conversions.
While I’d like a more automated solution, this method has been shown to be effective.

Subject: [Mondo-devel] Mondorescue: No data restore
Hello everybody,
I would like to use mondorescue to do bootable system backup like make_tape_recovery on hp-ux.
For instances before systems patching I could do a mondorescue backup and in case of problem
I could come back before patching and restore my system.
Typically on my redhat servers I have 2 Volume Group
One for system (vgsys) and an another for data (vgdata)
I would like to backup the system only (vgsys on /dev/sda) and no data (vgdata on /dev/sdb)
My mondoarchive command is :
/usr/sbin/mondoarchive -O -N -9 -n lmondop01-sav:/mondo -I /dev/sda -E /dev/sdb -p ${HOSTNAME} -d ${HOSTNAME}
Lmondop01-sav : NFS mondorescue server
HOSTNAME : Client to backup
When I attempt to restore my system for test I can see formatting /dev/sdb1….and my data partitions as well !!
I don’t want that but only restore the system (vgsys on sda) and keep my data.
How can I do that ?
Here are some information on my client :

Hello Rob, Rob Borland said on Sun, Jan 10, 2016 at 03:53:41PM +0200: >Continuing this dialogue with myself ... :-) Sorry, was preparing concert this wek, so didn't really work on MondoRescue, thus less answers than usual (which is already not as responsive as you could hope, sorry for that). >I see that in Debian 7.9 (Wheezy) "man genisoimage" does not even >describe a "-e" option switch! Yes, this is indeed a Fedora/RHEL extension added to their version of genisoimage. Seems distributions are differing in their approach to solve that problem, and MondoRescue will have to take that in account (while keeping compatibility, which is always the *interesting* challenge). While I'm not always answering to mails here, I'm always reading ! And your point is well taken. I have to work on a solution for that (as well as the similar issue Marco reported as well). Hopefully will be in 3.2.2 as this is really needed, but each addition requires test, introduces risks of regression, other issues... I received the following very helpful advice from Thomas Schmitt after posting this problem to the list mentioned in the error message: deb...@li... I replaced genisoimage with a link to xorriso and mondoarchive ran just fine. Regards, Rob It is very silent here. > I get the following fault running mondoarchive in Debian Wheezy: > ... > genisoimage: option '-e' is ambiguous This option is an invention of Fedora's mkisofs clone. It shall mark an EFI boot image in the El Torito boot catalog. (Here: images/mindi-bootroot.img) So if you need no EFI bootability and know how to disable this feature in mondoarchive, that might be a way to go. The other alternative is to use my program xorriso instead. Its mkisofs emulation would accept the options of the failed genisoimage run. If you cannot talk mondoarchive into using /usr/bin/xorrisofs out of package "xorriso", then you will have to replace /usr/bin/genisoimage by a link to /usr/bin/xorriso. Note that xorriso cannot produce UDF filesystems which you would need for video DVD production. So keep genisoimage under a different name. (I feel a certain degree of pain with the thought that you will use xorriso-1.2.2, which is 3 and a half year old and ten releases behind. Interesting old bugs still in and even more interesting new bugs not yet in.) My first posting to this list, greetings to all. I ran mindi and tested mindi.iso which booted fine. I ran mondoarchive which failed with the condition: Call to mkisofs to make ISO (ISO #1) ...failed I attach the compressed logs. I'd appreciate any advice. Regards, Rob Borland Sysadmin Healthnet Zimbabwe Free Internet access for public health workers. |

Bruno, I have been trying to discover the card reader drivers without success. Can anyone tell me what the modules are for the card reader? Or tell me the steps needed to find out what they are on my system? Any help would be appreciated, Mark On 01/05/2016 04:54 PM, Bruno Cornec wrote: > Mark Burnison said on Tue, Jan 05, 2016 at 03:43:49PM -0700: >> After rebooting back to my normal system, I got thinking about why >> there is a gap of 4 devices.
