Hi Tom,

I see in your mondoarchive.log :

-E /home/backups /home/tmp /appl/tmp /var/cache/mondo /home.bak

Since mondo 2.2.9.5, multiple exclude directories (-E option) must be separated by pipe character '|'.

So you'd better use :

-E "/home/backups|/home/tmp|/appl/tmp|/var/cache/mondo|/home.bak"

However after a distro upgrade from Debian Squeeze (6) to Wheezy (7), the time required by the nightly backup process has increased enormously. Before this upgrade the process would begin at 6:00pm and end arounf 3:00am. This was backing up enough data to result in six + DVD ISO's.

Even after archiving enough data to trim Mondo's output to two + ISO images, the process is now taking 20 hours.

mindi.log and mondoarchive.log are attached, I will appreciate any solutions, hints and suggestions.

Sorry, not having much success here. Could you please humor me and yet 
me know where the 3 repos are that you refer to.  The options I tried 
don't seem to resolve everything.

You should in fact import the 2 .repo, the one from the test dir to have
access to the latest test RPM and the one from the official dir to have
access to afio/buffer (if you don't have them already).

Yes. You need perl-MondoRescue now, which also need perl-ProjectBuilder

Using yum should so that automatically for you BTW.

This is indeed a known issue since fedora 17
(http://trac.mondorescue.org/ticket/656)

I'm working on a new 3.2.0 beta which aims at solving it for good. Was
planned earlier, but had travels and a report on the previous beta it
was still not solved, that requires more work on my side.

Hello Developers,

I am trying to make a mondo/mindi rescue image on Fedora Core 20
(x86_64) and the image keeps failing to boot up. I get the 
following message: 

Failed to execute/init (error -2)
kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found. Try passing init=
option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/init.txt for guidance.

I am attaching the logs for mindi, mindi with debug and mondoarchive.

I would really appreciate any help.

How long are you waiting ? You seem to have a quite large disk (2 TB) so
it takes some time to format partitions there.

There is nothing wrong with that end. I suppose it was trying to format
the next partitions (after the LVM setup which succeed).

Hello,

I am testing mondoarchive.  Initially it would not see the dvd in the dvd
drive on the laptop.  I finally got the backup to start and it was going
the all the procedures to backup and informed me I was going to need 3
dvd's to complete the job.

After 55 mins the dvd that was not recognized popped, a series of screens
pop-up, and it was searching for the media.  I popped the dvd back in and
continued.  Mondoarchive says there is no media would you like to continue
or abort.

Please advise?

I backed up a CentOS 6.5 server, 64bit with mondoarchive version mondoarchive v3.0.4-r3177.   Building a "standby" server, so I'm doing the nuke restore off of DVD.

Ah yes, fogot to mention that. If the file is considered as a big file,
then another method is use (slicing) and in that case, it cannot be
restored as a sparse file.

Yes true.

The solution is to change the size which mondoarchive consider to handle
a file as a big one.

-M "max-size"
Gives the maximum size of a biggie file (by default 64 MB). The value
should be given in kB. Example use -M 128000 to have biggie being more than
128 MB.

I used -R option and it works for small files, the ones back-upped in 
the step before big files.
But my concern is with big files: slicing does not preserve the holes in 
the file; that is is a file has virtual size of, let say 25GB, the 
slicing produces exactly 1600 slices of 16Mb each even if the real size 
is much less.
This is demonstrated in the attached mondoarchive log: please look at 
the file VD-MW_OS-11.1.0-1.img (its size is in the attached 'size' file).

Hi
    just a question: do mondoarchive and mondorestore have support for 
large sparse files?
I want to backup and restore files with virtual size of tenth of Gb but 
with real size of few Gb (e.g. virtual size 50Gb / real size 15Gb). When 
such files are restored their size always have the real size equal to 
the virtual size: is that possible?

This has been verified with mondo 3.0.4.
