That should work, or use mindi-perl (what will soon be mindi 2.0; cvs checkout mindi-perl) and add this line to /etc/mindi.conf: $ImagesDir = "/your/imagesdir/location/here"; or use the -i <directory> option when running mindi manually (not from mondoarchive). > > The problem I have is that there is only 48MB free after creating files in > /root/images/mindi which means subsequent runs of mondoarchive fail due to > limited disk space. Good morning, I have recently installed mondo/mindi and all is working well. But I want to change the location of the images/mindi directory (currently defaulting to /root/images/mindi) when running mondoarchive with command line options. The manpage shows the -T and -S options for mondoarchive but I can't find any way to change the options passed to mindi. I can also see that changing $imagesdir in the mindi script should work, but I'd rather leave the file as-is so I don't complicate future updates. Should I just create a symlink at /root/images/mindi to a different partition, or is there a better solution? The problem I have is that there is only 48MB free after creating files in /root/images/mindi which means subsequent runs of mondoarchive fail due to limited disk space. Thanks for any help. I purchased the pro update instead of the full pro. But I've only had it about two weeks. Install was on the 14th according to the log, and updated it just this past week to -144. > >It didn't. Definitely something odd happening. I'll give it a shot as soon as I get home. It will give me something to check out. Don't have an CD's here to run the test. Don't forget that you only need to burn /root/images/mindi.iso to CD (with 'cdrecord /root/images/mindi.iso') to get a bootable recovery CD. To use this, you must have your backups stored on a server or something. If you want to store your backups on CD, you need either to burn 1.iso, 2.iso etc to CD after the backup completes (if you ran 'mondoarchive -Oi') or run 'mondoarchive -Od' to create CDs directly during the backup. I favour '-Oi' for a full backup so you don't have to babysit the backup changing CDs but can burn them all after. For a differential backup, '-Ow' works nicely 'cos it'll fit on one CDRW. I've got a usb flash drive that I have to remember to clean up before backing up. At least in 8.1 it happened. I just checked the fstab in 9.0, and it seems to have cleaned itself. FYI I'm running some testing on Suse 8.2 pro and mondo. I'm pleased to report that DDS-3, NFS, CD-R/w are all working well to date. One strange issue popped up with my flash devices, minor and easy to work around. Versions: mindi-0.87_cvs_20031122-1 mondo-1.67_cvs_20031122-1 Snip log---> ...ran with errors. Mindi --makemountlist failed for some reason. Bad fstab file? Failed. Your distribution did not pass Mondo's sanity test. ---> end Snip In my fstab file the following USB flash device: /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 auto noauto, user, exec 0 0 #HOTPLUGB3Fu.dVr3Gr_57NF Suse added this when the usb flash device was plugged in. Commenting out this entry got mondoarchive back on line :) I'm pleased to report that DDS-3, NFS, CD-R/w are all working well to date. -- Stan Benoit <sa...@ma...> |

SuSE installed -99 from the DVD. The -144 is available for download as a fix. It didn't. Try simply using /boot/vmlinuz for the command line. I've done two different systems so far. One a P4 and the other a dual athlon system on SuSE 9. Both were updated before I did the update. Didn't have any problems with backups. Hugo, I'd be perfectly willing to help, but I don't have an insane (appropriate term) system anymore. When I realized that my primary file server was running a krufted OS, I pulled an all-nighter and reinstalled the world- from SuSE 9.0 CDs (2.4.21-99-default). FYI, Mindi and Mondo (cvs_20031122) seem to be working perfectly on that system now. Let me look at my logs and see if I have any other insane systems around... be a day or 2 (I seem to recall today is a holiday, so I won't get any work done). Mike- Mornings: Evolution in action. Compare Mode is totally noninvasive. -Hugo |

Michael, I know you're busy but will you please run a few commands on both PCs to help me fix this? Try the following:- # strings /boot/vmlinuz | fgrep "2.4.21" | head -n10 (I'm assuming /boot/vmlinuz is your current kernel) For the same kernel, type:- # uname -r I'd like to know what you get. Let's say you've got the 'sane' PC and the 'insane' PC (nice, nonjudgmental terms *g*). What do they say? TIA, -Hugo |

I thought I'd pass this along so the next person doesn't make the same mistake I did. SuSE 9.0 shipped with one kernel on the CDs (2.4.21-99-default)and a different kernel on the DVD (2.4.21-144-default). If that didn't confuse people who didn't realize it enough, there seems to be a small problem with the -144 kernel. Somewhere inside (and I have NO clue where) it still thinks it's -99, and refers to the -99 modules path Mindi and Mondo both take the kernels word for where the modules are, reasonably enough - which will cause them both to fail for no rational reason, since the SuSE kernel situation is irrational. If, as I did, you install most of the system from DVD, but a few misc. modules and utilities from CD, you probably have a nice, stable, consistant, system. NOT. Mindi and Mondo worked on one system, and failed on another system in the same room - the systems are configured identically. I completely lost it, and it wasn't a problem with Mindi and Mondo. You can use the CD created by Mindi only to boot from. It's a standard rescue CD.
You can use the first CD created by Mondo as a boot CD as well, but it also contains
your backups.
