Thanks Bill. This working fine... for the backup!
I don't know if it is strickly related, but I have difficulties to do
the restore still around the partitioning:
- it does not work automatically
- when I try to manually edit the partition table in mondorestore I have
either a 'Seg fault' or '<*** glibc detected *** mondorestore: malloc():
memory corruption (fast): 0x08f55168'
I don't know how to retrieve mondorestore.log when I have such a
crash... because I have to reset the server to get back hand on it!
Hardware source/target is HP DL320 G5.
No RAID nor SmartArray so disc is seen as /dev/sda
Below some screen copy with 'SIGABT' error:

Presuming that the swap really is /dev/sda6 I would change the line to this: /dev/sda6 swap swap defaults 0 0 > - or fix the issue with mindi The ability of mondo to detect and create labeled SWAP Hello,
I am running a quite recent test version of Mondo:
mindi-busybox-1.7.3-1.fc7
mondo-2.2.9-0.20090729004531.fc7
mindi-2.0.7-0.20090729004531.fc7
... but I am doing backup of quite old FC7!
During the mondoarchive, I had an error with mindi. Looking closer it
appears that it doesn't like the 'LABEL' in my /etc/fstab.
I know this is supported but it complains anyway:
# mindi --makemountlist test
Your mountlist will look like this:
Analyzing LVM...
DEVICE MOUNTPOINT FORMAT SIZE
(MB) LABEL/UUID
/dev/sda1 / ext2 4996
/1
/dev/sda7 /udr ext2 19320
/udr1
/dev/sda5 /usr ext2 14998
/usr1
/dev/sda3 /log ext2 14998
/log1
/dev/sda2 /db ext2 20002
/db1
tail: cannot open `+2' for reading: No such file or directory
FATAL ERROR. Your system uses a LABEL partition (LABEL=SWAP-sda6),
but you lack the tool to support it.
Please replace labels with their correct devices in /etc/fstab or
install findfs|blkid|vol_id
Please e-mail a copy of /var/log/mindi.log to the mailing list.
See http://www.mondorescue.org for more information.
WE CANNOT HELP unless you enclose that file.
Please note that:
- findfs is present
- blkid is present
- vol_id is not in udev for some time already
Can you help me please to?
- either get rid of the 'LABEL' things in /etc/fstab a proper way
- or fix the issue with mindi
Thanks,
(attached the mindi.log!)

I am running the distro's own package, not the one from the mondo site. An error may have crept in. Doug. |

I have installed mondorescue (Mondo Archive v2.2.8-r2141) and have had success creating and restoring bootable tape archives. I am testing mondoresque with an external USB drive and running into problems. I have reviewed the archives and while I have found others with USB issues, they do not appear to be using USB hard drives with ext3 formating. The Unit I am using as a DELL RD1000 with 160G drives (149.04 to be exact). The drives are formatted as ext3. Disks in the enclosure show up as /dev/sdb, with my single ext3 partition as /dev/sdb1. I have tried mondoarchive without options and selected the "USB Key/ Drive" option and from the command line "mondoarchive -OU -d /dev/sdb1 -s 149g -p `hostname -s`. Both fail when attempting to write the bootable USB image to the drive. I have attached mondoarchive.log and mindi.log Thanks in advance for ay assistance. Lewis |

Hello, I installed mindi-mondo (mondo-2.2.8-6.1,mindi-2.0.2-3.1) on OpenSUSE 11.1 without any problems. mondoarchive works well and has created images of the system correctly. Hello dear list members, I'm packing at the moment (well I should in fact !) to leave for vacation with my family up to the 16th of August. (No Internet access) I should have already published 2.2.9, and I'm sorry for the delay, but the version planed revealed a nasty bug, which made me remove it from the server, and I've worked on polishing that version since then to avoid that with the help of our team at HP, and some customer feedbacks. As I don't want to leave you with an unstable stable version, what I decided to make is to launch the build of what should be 2.2.9, but still as a beta (so hosted under ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org/test) over this night. Please test it and if no major problem (aka seg fault) occur, I'll be happy to promote it as the official version when I'm back. That version is working for me, seems stable, solves many issues reported, so should be worth it. But as usual, take it with agrain of salt, check your restore (archive always mostly works) and report back here or with trac. The fear of seg fault, more than before is due to a the increased usage of dynamic memory allocation, which should lead to a much more robust code, ... once I solved the related issues (freeing memory at the worng place ;-) Thanks for your continuous help, and I'll be happy to talk again with you in 3 weeks, and hopefully to publish the new version, as a sign of good form of the project, for begining my 5th year of project lead ;-) Greetings, Bruno. -- Linux Profession Lead EMEA / Open Source Ambassador \ EMEA CME Sol. I'm thinking about migrating from Mandriva to Fedora Core to make my two most important applications run better. One application is Mondo. What's the latest version of Fedora Core which works well for DVD backups using Mondo? FC10 is the latest currently supported by CCRMA (http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/) which is the other important "application" for me. As of June 9th, CCRMA was still being ported for FC11, and that might be done by the time I'm ready to migrate. Thanks..... -- Kevin |

In fact mondoarchive works in 2 phases: 1/ in the scratch dir in creates all the compressed packages that it will put on the media, up to the size of what can fit onto the media 2/ it copies everything on the media, and then purge the scratchdir to restart again. If you limit the size of the media, you'll then use less space in the scratchdir. HTH, Bruno. -- Linux Profession Lead EMEA / Open Source Ambassador \ EMEA CME Sol. I'm a little confused. I have two use cases, one where I have a large
USB hard drive, and not enough scratch space, and the second where I
have many smaller USB drives, each smaller then the scratch dir. From
reading the man page, -s would seem to apply to the second case, but
doesn't seem to have anything to do with the scratch space like you
imply. What am I missing.
-s size
How much can each of your backup media hold? You may use 'm' and
'g' on the end of the number, e.g. '700m' for an extra-large CD-R. You
no longer need to specify the size of your cartridges if you are
backing up to tape.
