Hello, I had a system crash that would not allow me to boot. I'm trying to restore from the 66 CD's I made using the Mondo Rescue program. It's a Dell server running RHEL 5, and I have an iSCSI target on Synology NAS to increase the storage capacity of system. After I type 'Nuke', I'm getting the attached errors, any help resolving would be most appreciated. Nothing has changed with the hardware other than I changed the RAID configuration from 0 to 5 on the server, and Synology NAS from RAID 0 to Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR). I'm told Mondo Rescue can handle a change in RAID configuration so I don't believe this is the issue. I think the issue is that the Recover cannot, or does not, recognize the iSCSI target on Synology NAS, as it's not seeing the Synology file system. On the "Editing mountlist" page the error is /dev/sda does not exist The mount list in Mondo Rescue looks like this: /dev/sda1 lvm lvm 0 /dev/sda2 lvm lvm 699415 /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 / ext3 0 /dev/sdb1 /boot ext3 85 /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01 swap swap 0 I have a 2TB iSCSI LUN on the Synology NAS that the Restore cannot find. Any help in figuring out how I can Restore would be most appreciated. Best regards, Brad Burt |

Update on my quest to make MondoRescue work on CentOS 7.4, on a Dell PE R720. I was able to run a backup to a USB memory stick: mondoarchive -O -V -U -s 30g -d /dev/sdc -I / -E /home/gibbsjj/mondo -T /tmp -9 -l GRUB This was successful, and was able to boot!! I first did a 'compare', which looked good. I rebooted and did a nuke. Again, the system can not boot after the nuke. I saved the restore log before I rebooted. I ran the Boot-Repair disk to see if it can fix the problem, but it just tells me: "GPT detected. Please create a BIOS-Boot partition. This can be performed via tools such as Gparted". Restore log attached. Thanks. -Josh |

I'm stuck. After burning the .ISO file to a DVD, the machine won't boot from it. When I go into the UEFI boot menu and select the DVD drive, It says no boot device found. I ran mindi and created a test disc, and that does boot ok. I re-ran mondoarchive, and burned a new disc from the .iso and same result - won't boot from the disc. I also burned the boot-repair disc to have on hand, and that also boots ok. Thoughts? I've attached the latest log. Thanks! -Josh |

Thanks for the reply. I'm now unable to get mondo to create an archive in interactive mode since I formatted/reinstalled CentOS. Not sure what I did differently this time. Running in interactive mode, it asks for the location of my boot device (log attached). I tried the following, but each time mondo reports unidentified bootloader: /dev/mapper/centos-root (this is what mondo suggests) /dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 I went ahead and tried specifying the boot loader (GRUB): mondoarchive -O -V -i -s 4480m -d /home/gibbsjj/mondo -I / -E /home/gibbsjj/mondo -T /tmp -9 -l GRUB This resulted in a failure of mindi - ran out of space it looks like. I've also attached that log. This is the WARNING that I don't like: INFO: Found grub2 boot type INFO: Making Boot RAM Disk (219044 KB) INFO: Creating ext2 filesystem on /tmp/mondo.tmp.BrsaIK/temp.rd INFO: Copying Mindi files onto /tmp/mondo.tmp.BrsaIK/mountpoint.3756 WARNING: Problem in udev.lis analysis So I edited mindi and set EXTRA_SPACE = 300000. This solved the problem with mindi, and I was able to generate an archive. Log attached for that as well. Mindi still reports 'Problem in udev.lis analysis'. Not sure if that is a problem or not. I'm about to burn the .ISO to a DVD and try a 'compare' and then nuke restore. Will post results in a bit. Thanks, -Josh |

If you boot on a repair DVD, do you at least see hwether the restore happened ? Maybe it's just the boot loader reinstall issue. Are you UEFI or MBR ? Is it different HW ? lots of questions that would be reduced by looking at the logs in fact. I'll work on improving this for an upcoming version. I've the code in project-builder.org to manage files per distro in a configuration file, so I'll use that to solve the issue. Cf: http://trac.mondorescue.org/ticket/834 Meanwhile you're solution is of course fine. Hello, First, I would like to thank you very much for your software, my company is using it to backup our linux systems and test the backup on our DRP site. I'm trying to use it at home to backup my debian box and I've ran into a small problem in /usr/sbin/mindi while trying to do so. After a bit of research, I found that there seems to be a problem in the following code : if [ $boottype = "syslinux" ]; then FindLdlinuxe64Binary if [ -e "$LDLINUXE64" ]; then LogFile "INFO: Copying $LDLINUXE64 to $efidir" cp $LDLINUXE64 $efidir 2>> $LOGFILE || Die "Cannot copy $LDLINUXE64 to $efidir). Did you run out of disk space?" cp $LDLINUXE64/../libutil.c32 $efidir 2>> $LOGFILE || Die "Cannot copy $LDLINUXE64 to $efidir). Did you run out of disk space?" fifi The problem is with this line : cp $LDLINUXE64/../libutil.c32 $efidir 2>> $LOGFILE || Die "Cannot copy $LDLINUXE64 to $efidir). Did you run out of disk space?" the /../libutil.c32 leads to a "is not a directory" message So the correct code here is : if [ $boottype = "syslinux" ]; then FindLdlinuxe64Binary if [ -e "$LDLINUXE64" ]; then LogFile "INFO: Copying $LDLINUXE64 to $efidir" cp $LDLINUXE64 $efidir 2>> $LOGFILE || Die "Cannot copy $LDLINUXE64 to $efidir). Did you run out of disk space?" dir=`dirname $LDLINUXE64` cp $dir/libutil.c32 $efidir 2>> $LOGFILE || Die "Cannot copy $LDLINUXE64 to $efidir). Did you run out of disk space?" fifi Could you please include this correction ? With the correction, I'm now able to backup my system. Thanks a lot. |
