www.microwerks.net/~hugo/download.html Please download and install Mindi v0.24 and Mondo v1.00 (test). I have not finished testing it yet. - backup to CD's --- OK - compare CD's against filesystem --- OK - backup, wipe & restore --- haven't tried it yet I look forward to your feedback. Good to be back! :-) -Hugo _____________________________________________________________ Want a new web-based email account ? ---> http://www.firstlinux.net |

Now, Mondo does everything it used to do but with a boot/root kit based on your own system. Great! FYI: I have used VMWare to test my restore, which is cool as you don't have to nuke your (working!) system to test it ;-) What I do is: 1) Run Mondo on my main system 2) Burn the CDs 3) Build a VMWare VM with a HDD as large as the one on my system 4) Boot from the first CD 5) Restore Luckily I have found that I was not able to automatically restore everything. There seems to be a problem with creating the ReiserFS on some of the partitions. With a lot of manual work I got my data partially restored, but then the system didn't boot.. ;-) I gave up after that and decided to rely on my normal backup on a second harddisk and to wait for the next Mondo ... - -- Jeroen - GPG public key: http://fairfax.van-pelt.com/gpgkey.asc Fingerprint: 4EE3 75D1 7FE9 3B1B 7BF4 3137 7716 744B 0A89 28D7 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7PIXJ1d+AzDOUH3ARAqYGAKCbS12gEnGrHQLXfJd6tcgaSIQatwCfQJhQ 6G9qUg5SWWV9lOMMS0qMrXY= =a2zs -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

FYI, I've finished combining Mindi and Mondo (or linking them, anyway). Now, Mondo does everything it used to do but with a boot/root kit based on your own system. I'll put it on my web site tomorrow. Please do send me your feedback. I plan to publish on FreshMeat next week. -Hugo _____________________________________________________________ Want a new web-based email account ? ---> http://www.firstlinux.net |

Hello, I just discovered mondo and was very pleased with the creation of = backup cd images=20 and burning. However when I boot from the created CD I cannot mount any = of my IDE harddisks. The system tells me there is no driver for hda. The device is detected = by the kernel. I created the backup running Red Hat 6.2, I have tried this with several = hard drives and machines=20 and still get the same error.=20 Anyone know what may cause this? Thanks,=20 Michael |

v1.0 --- shell script v1.1 --- shell script (probably) v1.2 --- C? Perl? Python? Some people want Perl. Some want Python. I love C & know it inside out, so I am naturally drawn to C. We've had this discussion before & I keep changing my mind. The bottom line is I like C and I'm happy with it. However, if someone else wants to port Mondo to another language, they have my blessing. OK, maybe Python. No, be strong.. must.. resist..... -Hugo _____________________________________________________________ Want a new web-based email account ? ---> http://www.firstlinux.net |

The bad news: I'm getting a divorce. I'm 100% OK and I'm not looking for sympathy. I'm fine. I mention this only because my wife has e-mailed every friend of mine whose e-mail address she can lay her hands on, to tell them what a terrible husband I have been. (I have not returned the favor.) Most of what she says is untrue and the rest is exaggerated. As usual, there are two sides to every story. The good news: Now that my wife and I are no longer together, I have the resources to own a computer again. In about 10 days, I shall release Mondo v1.0; it will incorporate a lot of bugfixes and that's about it. Then, I'll begin working with a friend of mine to port Mondo to Python. The web site will be updated shortly. Shortly = when I've finished building my PC, plus 48 hours :^) MkCdRec is now Mondo's chief competitor. The author began writing it when Mondo was at v0.972 (AFAIK) and that means he has been developing it for most of the time that I've been 'out of action'. This is a Good Thing (TM) because before Mondo, there was no Open Source disaster-recovery suite for Linux that backed up to CD-R's; now, there are two. I think the competition will be good for both products. If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions, please do e-mail me (or this list). -Hugo _____________________________________________________________ Want a new web-based email account ? ---> http://www.firstlinux.net |
