Hello, I have tried installing mondorescue on both CentOS and Rocky Linux. I followed the instructions on this page: https://www.linuxhelp.com/how-to-install-mondo-rescue-disaster-recovery-tool-in-linux First, in both cases the install script has a problem. The mindi shell script (usr/sbin/mindi) looks for busybox at $MINDI_LIB/rootfs/bin/busybox. so mindi complains that it can't find busybox. busybox is actually installed at $MINDI_LIB/rootfs/usr/bin/busybox. If I modify the mindi shell script to look for busybox where it actually is, then the scripts start running, through making catalog and dividing filelist into sets. On both CentOS and Rocky Linux, mindi then bombs out with a buffer overflow on the step "Calling mindi for boot disk." I have tried increasing EXTRA_SPACE to 300000 and BOOT_SIZE to 150000. mondoarchive.log and mindi.log attached. I have mondoarchive successfully running on a much older version of RedHat linux and I am at a loss as to why I can't get it to run on either CentOS or Rocky Linux. I appreciate any help! Howard |

Thank you all for your feedback. It worked as follows:
deb [trusted=yes] http://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian 11 contrib
deb-src [trusted=yes] http://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian 11 contrib
I also renamed the file to mondorescue.list.
And then:
apt update
If I don't use [trusted=yes], it fails with the following error:
W: GPG error: http://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian 11 Release: The
following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is
not available: NO_PUBKEY 6BA8C2D220EBFB0E E: The repository
'http://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian 11 Release' is not signed. N:
Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is
therefore disabled by default.
It even fails if I use:
wget -O /usr/local/share/keyrings/mondo-archive-keyring.gpg
http://ftp.mondorescue.org/debian/11/pb.pubkey
and then:
deb [signed-by=/usr/local/share/keyrings/mondo-archive-keyring.gpg]http://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian 11 contrib
deb-src [signed-by=/usr/local/share/keyrings/mondo-archive-keyring.gpg]http://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian 11 contrib
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong with that or the repo is
intentionally left unsigned.
Cheers,
Nick

Hello,
I am trying to install mondo packages using debian 11 repo.
I have read on the webpage: "For Debian/Ubuntu, just use the magic:
apt-get install mondo to use the native packages of your distribution,
or download the repo file mondorescue.sources.list and add it to your
/etc/apt/sources.list.d directory if you want to use upstream packages."
I have added the file:
http://ftp.mondorescue.org/debian/11/mondorescue.sources.list
whose content is:
deb ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian 11 contrib
deb-src ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian 11 contrib
as:
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/mondorescue.sources
but it won't work. I get an error:
# apt install mondo
E: Malformed stanza 1 in source list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/mondorescue.sources (type)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Nick

How do you backup to an already mounted CIFS share? I have things working backing up to ISO files on an already mounted CIFS share. How can I use the -n switch for backup to the same share? Or am I just doing it wrong? mondo doesn't like cifs:// so I'm using smbfs. /etc/fstab doesn't like smbfs I think because it's not in /proc/filesystems /etc/fstab: //192.168.100.100/Shared /mnt/backup cifs credentials=/etc/backup-credentials,uid=995,gid=995 # mondoarchive -N -3 -O -z -n smbfs://192.168.100.100/Shared -d srv01/mondo/mondorescue-$(hostname)-$(date +'%F_%H_%M_%S_%Z') -E /mnt/backup See /var/log/mondoarchive.log for details of backup run. Checking sanity of your Linux distribution Done. Network share 192.168.100.100/Shared is not mounted. Trying to mount it for mount: can't find 192.168.100.100/Shared in /etc/fstab Unable to mount Network share 192.168.100.100/Shared. Please mount manually. |

Thanks. For now I just hard coded it as the manufacturer could potentially change whatever I setup in the yaml file. Yes, access to source cannot be overrated! I'm dealing with a heavily branded, though not really customized, version of CentOS 7. By not customized I mean that the binaries are the same, but anywhere the brand can be inserted, it is. This is causing issues when pbdistrocheck is called from mindi, around line 2188 or so. If I can just pass options to override what it finds ( for $dname, $dver ) or hardcode things like $boottype, please let me know where when running mondorescue. Otherwise I guess I'll hardcode it in the mindi script. Thanks. |
