It is enough to get a static libXmondo support library, though. For the static binary, you want: LDFLAGS=-static ./configure --with-x11 --disable-shared --enable-static Note that this requires a statically-linked qt library, which you probably don't have (I didn't). > > both of which give the following errors: - > > g++ -g -O2 -o xmondo xmondobackup.o xmondo.o main.o xmondo.moc.o > xmondobackup.moc.o -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql > -L/usr/local/ssl/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib -L/usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib -L/usr/lib > ../common/.libs/libXmondo.a -lnewt -ldl -lpthread -lnewt -ldl -lpthread > /usr/lib/libkdeui.so -ldl -lresolv -lpthread /usr/lib/libkdecore.so > /usr/lib/libDCOP.so -ldl -lresolv -lXinerama -lart_lgpl_2 > /usr/lib/libkdefx.so -lqt-mt -lpthread -lXrender -lstdc++ -lc -lgcc_s > -lqt -lpng -lz -lm -lXext -lX11 -lresolv -lSM -lICE -lresolv -lnewt -ldl > -lpthread -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib > -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/X11R6/lib > ../common/.libs/libXmondo.a(libXmondo_la-libmondo-files.o)(.data+0x0): > In function `calc_checksum_of_file': > /usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/common/libmondo-files.c:87: multiple > definition of `crc16tab' > main.o(.data+0x0):/usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/xmondo/main.cpp:47: > first defined here > ../common/.libs/libXmondo.a(libXmondo_la-libmondo-files.o)(.data+0x400): > In function `exclude_nonexistent_files': > /usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/common/libmondo-files.c:288: multiple > definition of `crctttab' > main.o(.data+0x400): first defined here > ../common/.libs/libXmondo.a(libXmondo_la-libmondo-fork.o)(.text+0x25f): > In function `eval_call_to_make_ISO': > /usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/common/libmondo-fork.c:181: the use of > `mktemp' is dangerous, better use `mkstemp' > collect2: ld returned 1 exit status > make[3]: *** [xmondo] Error 1 > make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/xmondo' > make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 > make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo' > make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 > make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/mondo-1.74' > make: *** [all] Error 2 > > My apologies, but my C++ isn't good enough to work out if there is > actually an error, and if I may just be doing something silly. Look in mondo/xmondo/main.cpp. Replace line 26 (used to be #include <libmondo-files.h>) with #include <libmondo-files-EXT.h>. (I committed this to CVS, btw). When it works, tell me how you think it looks :-) A warning of two known bugs: There's a semi-known bug that XMondo will "hang around" when you close the window after a successful backup. Soulution: killall xmondo back at your shell. Bug #2: if XMondo seems to hang, it's a "fatal error". Check /var/log/mondo-archive.log. The problem would take a long time to explain. I'll fix this someday :-) -- Josh > > Many thanks > > Bob Reid > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email sponsored by: Free pre-built ASP.NET sites including > Data Reports, E-commerce, Portals, and Forums are available now. > Download today and enter to win an XBOX or Visual Studio .NET. > http://aspnet.click-url.com/go/psa00100003ave/direct;at.aspnet_072303_01/01 > _______________________________________________ > Mondo-devel mailing list > Mon...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mondo-devel |

Hi, Does anybody on the list know if it possible to compile Xmondo statically. I've tried using configure --with-x11 (which works perfectly but uses shared libraries) and configure --with-x11 --disable-shared configure --with-x11 --disable-shared --enable-static both of which give the following errors: - g++ -g -O2 -o xmondo xmondobackup.o xmondo.o main.o xmondo.moc.o xmondobackup.moc.o -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql -L/usr/local/ssl/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib -L/usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib -L/usr/lib ../common/.libs/libXmondo.a -lnewt -ldl -lpthread -lnewt -ldl -lpthread /usr/lib/libkdeui.so -ldl -lresolv -lpthread /usr/lib/libkdecore.so /usr/lib/libDCOP.so -ldl -lresolv -lXinerama -lart_lgpl_2 /usr/lib/libkdefx.so -lqt-mt -lpthread -lXrender -lstdc++ -lc -lgcc_s -lqt -lpng -lz -lm -lXext -lX11 -lresolv -lSM -lICE -lresolv -lnewt -ldl -lpthread -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/X11R6/lib ../common/.libs/libXmondo.a(libXmondo_la-libmondo-files.o)(.data+0x0): In function `calc_checksum_of_file': /usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/common/libmondo-files.c:87: multiple definition of `crc16tab' main.o(.data+0x0):/usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/xmondo/main.cpp:47: first defined here ../common/.libs/libXmondo.a(libXmondo_la-libmondo-files.o)(.data+0x400): In function `exclude_nonexistent_files': /usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/common/libmondo-files.c:288: multiple definition of `crctttab' main.o(.data+0x400): first defined here ../common/.libs/libXmondo.a(libXmondo_la-libmondo-fork.o)(.text+0x25f): In function `eval_call_to_make_ISO': /usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/common/libmondo-fork.c:181: the use of `mktemp' is dangerous, better use `mkstemp' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[3]: *** [xmondo] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo/xmondo' make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/mondo-1.74/mondo' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/mondo-1.74' make: *** [all] Error 2 My apologies, but my C++ isn't good enough to work out if there is actually an error, and if I may just be doing something silly. If anybody has any advice/workarounds/fixes I'd be very grateful to learn. Many thanks Bob Reid |

A quick google search revealed this: http://www.chem.vu.nl/~stol/Mondo-Rescue-Mindi-Linux-HOWTO.pdf -----Original Message----- From: mon...@li... I believe it would be easier if one could download a pdf of the html manual, just to have it = at hand (printed or otherwise) in case of serious trouble. Having it on the = web site is not very useful if your system has crashed. It would be great if someone could print the manual on pdf (or give me = the directions to do it). I may not have mentioned that I am running RedHat 7.3/kernel 2.4 and that= I=20 suspected that I need isolinux. I searched the web and couldn't find=20 anything. Usually I've got no problems doing updates, but not with (formerly) working software that's mission critical. Hi all. I am new to Mondo (I have just done my first bkp). I believe it would be easier if one could download a pdf of the html manual, just to have it at hand (printed or otherwise) in case of serious trouble. Having it on the web site is not very useful if your system has crashed. It would be great if someone could print the manual on pdf (or give me the directions to do it). I just tried the CD on a completely different machine and got exactly
the same behaviour. After the boot menu (no matter which kernel I
choose) the initrd is loaded, the kernel is unpacked and starts itself.
The harddisks are identified and shortly after I read something about
'tar' doing something, but the following errors just are too fast.
If the bug persists, I'll have to setup a serial console... :-(

Hi,
I've been using mondo for a few months now, and so far everything seemed
fine.
Unfortunately my latest backup-attempts fail. The CD-RWs seem to be
burned okay, and when calling 'mondorestore' directly from the system,
that was used for the backup, I can read the media etc.
When trying to boot from one of my CDs, however, I get a *strange*
error, that I can't really debug or at least locate because the console
is filled with errors. The most common one is:
--- snip ---
[: No such file or directory
--- snap ---
And every few seconds I get:
--- snip ---
VM: killing process LogIt
Unable to identify CD-ROM format.
__alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gfp=3D0x1d2/0)
--- snap ---
I'm guesing that the VM- and the __alloc-errors come directly from the
kernel. The 'Unable to identify'-error could be from mondo (is it?) and
the '[: No such' looks like an error in a script.
I've been using my setup successfully to produce working recovery CDs.
The hardware hasn't changed at all. The things that have changed (at
least those that I can think of) since the last successful backup are a
new kernel (but mindi does take the correct kernel), some additions to
the mindi/deplist.txt-file and the fact that I started using CD-RW.
Any hints to resolve this problem would be _really_ welcome. :-/

I have just made a backup with Mondo 1.65 Mindi 0.85_cvs_20030724_1 on a Quantum DLT4000 tape drive on a Linux RH 7.3 system, and everything verified. When I boot with the boot disk however, and try to run compare I get "Fatal Error - Backup media not specified". I have also tried # compare -d /dev/st0 but got the same error. Any ideas? My log file is not attached because it seems to be too big for the list even ziped. Thanks!!! -Caroline Hardin Programmer, CDHA |

Same result. Logfile is identical (apart from obvious differences in
names of tmp and scratch directories and the list of command line
switches) except for this line:
resolved /dev/md0 to /dev/md0
(only when -f /dev/md0 is used)
BTW: the man page says
-f device Specify the drive on which your Master Boot
Record lives. Usually, this is discovered
automatically.
Which should be /dev/sda in my case. However, this also fails at the
same point.
Logfiles are attached.

Hi,
I just downloaded and tried mondo-1.66-1rht73.rpm and mindi-0.86-1.rpm.
Mindo failed to generate boot+data disks, apparantly because it picked
the wrong boot device.
I have a raid-1 mirror on /dev/md0 (/dev/sdb1 and /dev/sdc1) and a /boot
partition on /dev/sda1. My / partition is mounted on /dev/md0.
lilo.conf looks like this:
boot=/dev/sda
disk=/dev/sda
bios=0x80
map=/boot/System.map
prompt
timeout=50
default=linux
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.21-4
label=linux
read-only
root=/dev/md0
vga=5
<snip: some other kernel images>
When I run the following command line:
# mondoarchive -Ot -0 -d /dev/st0 -I '/home/maurice/files/hardware' -g
it fails with:
Assembling dependency files.......................................Backing up /dev/md's MBR
Creating /dev/boot_device (/dev/md)
cp: cannot stat `/dev/md': No such file or directory
Fatal error. Unable to create /dev/boot_device on ramdisk
Please e-mail a copy of /tmp/mindi.err.10141.tgz to the mailing list.
Please refer to the attached MA.log.gz for more information.
Maurice
BTW: why does it pick /var/spool/news as tmp and scratch directory?
Is is because that partition has lots of free space?
