Islam is an admirable universal religion and I respect Islam very much. I own a Qur’an in English and feel my blood pressure go down when I read it. Rediscovering Christianity and renewing the faith will serve them much more than converting to a religion which is exotic to westerners. My continued use of Apple products depends greatly on the support Wolfram Mathematica gives to the platform. That’s why I buy Apple. I’m in the minority but if my favorite software package of all time went away I’d have no reason to continue that relationship.

I’ve been following the use of programming languages in China by Googling around and find that most of them are very much tradition Algol type syntax languages such a Java. The key to defeating the Google lock in is open source and something which could do it in the programming language space is *Rust*.

Rust is basically all the things you like and need from Java with a memory management model appropriate for today’s highly concurrent applications. There’s no reason someone can’t build anything in Rust including an OS but that isn’t necessary, not yet. Rust can build any application you can build using C, C++ or Java. Rust is industrial strength building material with greater safety. Rust also compiler to WASM so Rust can live in the web browser. Not that I think web applications should use Rust when simple javascript or server rendering should work fine. There are those use cases where WASM needs to be accessed and Rust is a livable way to do it.

Java has machine learning frameworks and giant databased like Hadoop. Rust can easily rebuild these. Java has interesting niche languages like Clojure, Scala, Kotlin, various Lisps and Schemes etc. Rust can do all of these and better. All people need to do is build ambitious projects in Rust which would drive the implementation of the language. No language ever develops everything out of the box for large applications. The applications help form the language and improve compiler design.

That’s my prescription for breaking out of the Google prison. Rust is much better than Java and can build all the important software we need on a platform designed from the ground up for the applications we need today. Don’t like Rust? Fine. What we need more of anyway are useful standards and all that needs to be done is to abstract some set of useful standard using Rust or even Ada as a model. Once that’s done and adopted, the age of vendor lock in is over. Not only that but developers can work on problems that matter instead of figuring out how to accommodate bad design which merely facilitates vendor lock in.

We are certainly at an impasse and we cannot move forward until this issue is resolved. America’s banking, media, entertainment, political establishment, medical industrial complex, big tech, academia, intelligence services and justice system have been entirely captured by a tiny minority. This power structure feels very threatened, backed into a corner like a caged animal and is primed to lash out which it already has. We have not yet experienced the limits of what can go wrong and it might very well be to such an extent that the world never recovers and very possibly ceases to exist.

We have every reason to trust in the humanity and decency of the great majority of people that they would not seek revenge but rather seek to solve the problem. That where we are now. We either solve the problem or enter a stage of extreme suffering and possible extinction. We’re in a battle like no other. What will determine the outcome isn’t force and violence but moral courage and justice tempered with mercy and understanding, or the lack thereof. The outlook isn’t so good right now but the mass consciousness of humanity coming to the sudden realization that everything can end in a few hours is the motivation we need put things right.

When I was in my teens I had already learned Liszt’s sonata in b minor and played Bk. I of Bach’s well Tempered clavier. By the time I turned 30, I had learned most of the active piano repertoire. I also did math Olympiad and learned Lebesgue integration, probability and all that modern stuff before I was a freshman. I knew the entire undergraduate curriculum in math already and so majored in physics instead. I couldn’t graduate fast enough, most of it was not challenging and dull. I should have went straight to graduate school.

Anyway, you think I’d end up a massive success, right? Didn’t work out that way. While I certainly didn’t fail, I didn’t really succeed either. Most of Academia DOES NOT VALUE what I can do, especially now. I couldn’t function in Academia and so just got a regular job, did it well, saved money, invested, moved ahead slowly but surely.

When my kids were young, they loved my piano playing. I’d have little dancers accompanying my music. Now, I can’t compete with that nasty rap music. Children’s peer override their parents eventually. I live in a nice little New England town and the young ladies, ostensibly feminists prefer misogynistic music by Dr. Dre “bitches ain’t shit but hoes and tricks” stuff like that. Their friends are always very impressed when I play but they can’t pay attention for very long. It’s a world they cannot enter.

So what to do? Well, maybe farming. I’ve been gardening as a side interest for over a decade now. I love trees, flowers, plants, despite difficult allergies so I need to be careful. I also grew up raising sheep so maybe I could try that again. Learn to cook properly from my chef friend who recently closed his business which was destroyed by the lockdowns? He couldn’t hire competent people. He couldn’t even find incompetent people to work! Maybe I should have applied for a job but I didn’t want to screw up and lose a friend. In hindsight, I wish I took the risk.

Now, I’m visiting colleges to send my youngest and last child. I can pay her way and am not happy at all by what higher education has become. Still, I have to send her because everyone does it and Mrs. Competent Physicist seems to feel it is the ticket to success. While visiting a college I found a rather inspiring inscription on the sciences building. I will not repeat what it says out of fear some woke retard will insist it be taken down. Beautiful words which for now are completely meaningless to nearly everybody, safely hidden away. It will be my secret. I’m not being melodramatic, remember the monuments torn down by BLM? I’m tempted to make a pilgrimage out of those inscribed words. When I feel the need, go for a drive, pay homage, go back home. Maybe someday people will get their act together. I hope so.
