We are in for certain the most avoidable and deliberate crisis in the history of America. None of this needs to be happening. There are no powerful natural forces leading to this point. The basic enforcement of existing law would have saved our border, our elections, our cities, and our foreign policy, and the laws had to be quietly suspended in every case to ram through the agenda.

It is the most avoidable and deliberate not just in America but in the history of the world.

Civilizations have died all the time, either overrun by outsiders or get sloppy and weak--lose dynamism--or suffer a leadership crisis/civil war.

But this is unprecedented. The US won the War. It went to the moon. Not exactly lacking dynamism. Even as the rot was growing won the Cold War. It has the best technology in human history in a host of areas ...
... but is being taken down by this toxic--and absolutely crazy--minoritarian ideology pushed by a tiny hostile minority and its fellow traveler of immigrationism, to just wave the invaders in.

No society in human history has ever--none--swallowed such an ideology of willful self-destruction. But America--and then following in its footsteps the rest of the West--has.

    The DeSantis-Newsom Debates
They might not be Lincoln-Douglas, but they’d still be instructive.
    By The Editorial Board
    Sept. 18, 2022 4:47 pm ET

California Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to debate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, even as both are running for re-election in their own states. The challenge is a political stunt by Mr. Newsom, but there’s still a lot to recommend it.

“Hey @GovRonDeSantis,” Mr. Newsom wrote Friday on Twitter, “clearly you’re struggling, distracted, and busy playing politics with people’s lives. Since you have only one overriding need—attention—let’s take this up & debate.”

Mr. Newsom is running for re-election in a one-party state and is expected to win easily against his GOP opponent. Mr. Newsom has plenty of time for distractions as he plots his run for President in 2024 if President Biden decides not to run.

Mr. DeSantis, on the other hand, is running in a far more competitive state, where statewide elections always seem to be close. He won by only 32,463 votes in 2018, and Charlie Crist, his Democratic challenger this year, isn’t far behind in the polls. We can understand if Mr. DeSantis prefers to focus on his own re-election, rather than giving the California Democrat a national forum for his presidential ambitions.

Yet a debate, or better more than one, would also showcase Mr. DeSantis in a way that rarely happens through the state or national liberal media filter. Every move he makes is criticized in the national press, and Democrats are calling him “scarier” than Donald Trump even before the November election. That’s even faster than we figured.

Debates would give Mr. DeSantis a chance to explain his policies on Covid, the economy, school choice, immigration and more. Immersed as he is in the Sacramento-mainstream-media bubble, Mr. Newsom might think Mr. DeSantis is an easy mark.

A debate would let voters see the difference between the California and Florida models of governance. Mr. DeSantis gave a fine speech the other day on the “great American exodus” to states like Florida from progressive states. Even if not this fall, this is a debate the country eventually needs to hear.

The average young groom finds preparing for his wedding to be a grueling, months-long odyssey through an alien and threatening feminine landscape.

That's because modern, secular weddings are hugely expensive stage productions designed to cater to female fantasies. And unfortunately, this is just a foretaste of the grueling, years-long odyssey through an alien and threatening feminine landscape that the married state has become. For the man, marriage today means shouldering enormous expenses and twisting his innards into knots trying to satisfy irrational female demands, being disrespected and marginalized all the while. Modern society has turned women into unappeasable goddesses devoid of proportion and self-perception. It is no wonder that men are backing away from this arrangement. For many men, the risk/reward profile just doesn't work in their favor.

I have erstwhile tried to defuse the Dissident preoccupation with "getting women" by explaining that getting a woman in this society is akin to being the dog who caught the car. This does not mean that men should stop trying to find wives, get married, and raise children, but it does mean that men should prepare themselves for the fact that doing so will be a sacrifice and will probably not make them happy. It is only by acclimating a critical mass of people to these hard facts that there will be sufficient popular will to start enacting pro-family policies again.

I do not know why anyone beside his personal acquaintances would give the southern end of a dead, north-facing rat to know what Andrew Sullivan believes about anything - from the meaning of life, all the way down to the current time of day.

This tweet of his is merely the latest exhibit, as if any more evidence were needed, in support of the case that any correspondence between what he said yesterday and what he'll say tomorrow is purely coincidental.

Whenever I see his name, I am reminded of the most salient, prolonged example of his chronic inconsistency. In the late nineties, he started an independent blog, The Daily Dish. In the run-up to the Iraq War, and in its early days, he was not merely one its most enthusiastic cheerleaders, he was the most vicious, unrelenting tormenter of those who questioned the wisdom of the the invasion.

But suddenly, as soon as it became clear that purple fingers would not quickly tranform Iraq into a Jeffersonian democracy, he turned coat, and his blog attacked those sustaining and supporting the occupation with the same degree of strident vitriol he he had been aiming at his new allies only a few months before.

That blog, by the way, was supported by reader contributions, or so he said. After Bush 43 won re-election despite Sullivan's best efforts, he announced a major fund drive, enjoining his readers to give him the funds needed to continue fighting the good fight! Weeks later, he announced he was quitting the blogging business. It was just too much stress. Did he give the money back? I don't know; I doubt it. But he did re-institute The Daily Dish within months, supported this time with checks from a major publishing company

And that wasn't the last time he quit blogging, only to return like a bad penny.

Oh! One more thing. Remember the time this supposedly monogamous homosexual was revealed to be placing classified ads for rough sex with other HIV positive gays? Having sought sex with strangers, he complained when he was caught that his "privacy" had been invaded. Riiight!

I suspect, but can never prove, that God created Andrew Sullivan as a warning about the long term effects on the human brain of a combination of anti-Aids drugs, anabolic steroids and marijuana.

You said something grossly false. It's a habit of people in these parts, and they haven't got a clue. (Alden isn't the worst offender, just the most abrasive).

Total public expenditure in 2019 amounted to about $7 tn, or about 35% of gross domestic product.

It was divvied up as followed:

    Public consumption, 41.9%
    Transfer payments: 44.5%
    Interest: 12.5%
    Subsidies: 1%

About 6% of the 'public consumption' expenditure is devoted to benefits for the impecunious, so the segment of total public expenditure in question amounts to about 47% of the total. That's divvied up as follows:

    Social Security: 31.3%
    Medicare: 23.9%
    SSI: 1.7%
    Temporary disability / workman's comp: 0.6%
    Medicaid, long-term care: 4%

    Veterans' benefits: 4%
Miscellaneous benefits for military, veterans, and railway workers: 0.6%

    Medicaid, medical care: 14.7%
    Unemployment compensation: 0.8%
    EITC &c.: 4.8%

The first five listed are benefit programs for the old, disabled and injured. The one qualification on that is that about 4.5% of all Social Security benefits are paid out to survivors. In regard to the next two, the beneficiaries are primarily male. In regard to the last three, they're not predominantly female. (About 46% of those signed up for Medicaid are male).

Women don’t design, they don’t build, they don’t fix. Most women do bs paperwork, made necessary by bs government rules. The rules either obligate businesses to hire people to do some unneeded task or the businesses hire people to counteract some government-mandated bs. Women excel as nannies. That is the government’s hand in creating “independent” women, not so much is direct spending.

These White women would never put their friends on a date with a cousin or suggest an ex.

Why didn’t they? Do you think they should have?

Liberals in general are spiteful and it has gotten worse. They don't like to see others do well. Single liberal women especially don't want to see someone else get a boyfriend. The liberal men can be similar but in different areas. They don't like to see another man get a raise or promotion. Envy drives liberalism and liberalism drives envy. It's very unhealthy.

But yes I think men and women should help others connect whether it be in business, romance, etc. It's called a society.

A couple girls in the office would tell me everything.

    Can you share some examples?

Well I share quite a bit on my time working with liberal women in the city. The most surprising revelation was how rarely they date outside their race. They really didn't date blue collar White guys either unless they made a decent amount of money. These women all seemed to think that a college educated White guy with minimal height/salary/fitness was out there for them. Half probably became cat moms. Some figured out the truth and did ok but the colleges are really churning out these indoctrinated women with liberal arts degrees. An open position that didn't require strong technical skills would have at least 150 applicants and many of those would have masters degrees. They would have women with a private school degree offering to fly across the country for a low paying job.

It was also surprising how few actually went out. They weren't out slutting it up like Sex and the City. They would go home and watch TV with a dog or cat. One had a dog with a name like Rob and for months I thought it was a boyfriend. She would say stuff like "Rob and I are going to the beach for the weekend".

Anyways I would rather work in a men's prison than work around that many women again. Especially liberal women. Ugh. Too much estrogen and fuzzy headed liberal beliefs. I don't mind working with women in a mixed office but that was too much.

The problem with forced diversity isn't that the presence of Black actors is offensive. I've been desensitized by the constant onslaught that Idris Elba, Beyonce, and Lizzo are the most beautiful humans ever to walk this Earth.

No, the problem is that affirmative action characters cannot have any depth. You can't cast an actor to represent the entire Black race only to slander them by him being dumb, buffoonish, greedy, cruel, or having any other moral failing. He must be wise, strong, powerful, loyal, and most importantly FIERCE. The only faults he can have are being too loyal, too moral, too smart for his own good, and most importantly other characters discounting him due to their racism. Damn legacy of antebellum slavery being so powerful that it poisons the minds of Middle Earth and Westeros!

So, you're left with stupid characters with no depth. The Black Targaryen has no purpose other than to look cool and FIERCE. I refuse to watch Rings of Power, but I imagine Negrolas the Elf and Black Dwarf Woman are the same.

There are other corollaries to this rule, also. Because you can't punch down, no Hollywood screenplay will ever again be written with a villain who is not a white, 100% straight, right-wing man. Every movie will basically be a mashup of Sum of All Fears and Selma, with a European aristocrat trying to bring back fascism and denying little Black girls fair educational opportunities along the way.

"There’s much discussion in the respectable press about legal gun purchases as being the cause (rather than, more likely, the effect) of the historic increase in shootings. It’s difficult to find statistics on what percentage of murders are committed with legally owned guns, but the CDC data lets you calculate the share of homicides due to gunfire rather than knives, blunt objects, fists, poison, or whatever. Among black homicide victims, 87 percent died by firearms compared with only 56 percent of American Indians, 62 percent of Asians, 63 percent of whites, and 75 percent of Latinos.

Finally someone with something to say rather than blaming the collapse in marriage rates on women's sluttiness. I disagree about the age range somewhat; I believe you can start 10 years earlier. It's the early 90s when young adults started living the low-income, low-status lifestyle of a student well into their 30s. It does seem the life events (getting a decent paying job) that might trigger the decision to marry aren't happening to enough young people at a predictable date (within 6 months of graduation). A cultural issue that does play a part is that females are expected to have academic credentials and successful careers to be desirable mates nowadays. Self-esteem issues on the part of both sexes probably have a lot to do with pretending not to mind living in a dump and that the too many casual, transitory relationships don't bother you either.

Our fearless host used to write about affordable family formation though of late prefers slut-shaming to analysis. One wonders if the younger generations' frivolity isn't contagious. Anyway, my theory is we stay in lockstep with our peers all through school often finding ourselves unequal to the task of coping with the much less predictable and structured real world. Regressive behavior patterns then emerge as a consequence of not being able to transition to the next phase of adult life. Those who didn't suffer the same fate either mock the unfortunate mercilessly due to vicarious humiliation or schadenfreude because those struggling are young; or they claim falling away from traditional values is the problem with the solution being a return to such values. Like you, I suspect that economic issues play a large part in the social dysfunction we're observing. Managing the economy so good jobs are plentiful for college grads is certainly a good idea but I think we should go further as a society by preparing young people to cope well no matter how the economy is performing.

    Replies: @Thea, @Alden, @Feryl

Our ancestors lived in dirt-floor huts with no running water or electricity for eons. They manages to find spouses in their early adulthood and had half a dozen kids by 30. The life of even the poorest Americans (excepting the mentally ill homeless)in the 1980s through today is far superior to that so no way is a lack of finances and material comfort the cause of our current birth and marriage dearth.

The pill, cultural factors and large number of women with college degrees are the direct cause.

It is a bit more complicated, I agree. Wrt settling down and having children, looking at the group still somewhat procreating helps. Those on welfare have cellphones, cars and huge TVs; they also don't worry if the woman gets pregnant because Uncle Sam will provide for the children too. The population not on welfare thinks differently. Those with marginal incomes don't necessarily want to resort to using WIC, etc, to care for a child so will wait until maybe too late. Others may desire to live in a house and/or send their children to private school so also may wait until too late. Remember my theory has a lot to do with peer group behavior and what happens when the peer group ends up on different trajectories after college. Maybe there is enough of a resource in actuality but people don't weigh their choices like a computer program might.

I also think a lot can be learned from observing differences across subpopulations of similar age and background. Young Whites with at least the husband in the military seem much more likely to start a family at a young age. I find this very interesting since enlisted don't make much money; the willingness to have children must derive from another source. Does military training strengthen coping skills or is there another underlying reason? Also, are military couples more likely to stay married?

It's not any one thing: normalizing an extended adolescence, lots of debt starting out in life, normalizing of casual sex or not enough friends getting married to make someone feel left behind. I do think conscious effort on the part of society could easily reverse the trend though.

Curtis Yarvin was 100% correct when he stated that America is a communist country. The Left can “burn down the cities, get the police to kneel for them, and capture institutions” because the Left is in charge. If the Right became violent, then the Left would crush the Right using the full force of the State and quasi-State institutions.

However, the Left cannot deploy the full force of the State without either Rightwing violence or losing public legitimacy that sustains its authority. As a result, USG is somewhat constrained against constitutionally protected actions like a rightwing press, politicking, and petitioning grievances.

That’s why the controlled opposition (i.e., the institutional Republican Party) is so important. It channels Rightwing opposition into a futile end. Trump (whether he understands it or not) is threatening to turn the Republican Party into an actual opposition by defeating institutional Republicans in the primaries. If MAGA wins this year, there is a small chance that they exercise their constitutional authority. That would be bad for the non-constitutional actors that constitute USG and might force USG to employ means that threaten its legitimacy.

Rather than a hot war--or worse, dying off to satisfy these turds--I suggest promoting the very decent and civilized principle of "self-determination of peoples". They don't govern us, we don't govern them. And work for a peaceful separation.

Doesn't have to be bloody. Doesn't have to even be wildly disruptive. No one has to pull up stakes and move. Just the principle the "America" part belongs to Americans--Rainbow people living their are resident aliens and do not have a say in how it governed, nor a right to move America without permission. And likewise Rainbow regions are governed by the Rainbow people, and Americans are resident aliens without the right to a say in governance or a right to move there without permission.

Once we reestablish those two most critical rights--the right to control who is in our territory and a right to govern ourselves--... America will be back.

South Korea has again recorded the world's lowest fertility rate with the number sinking to a new low.

The rate in the country first dropped lower than one child per woman in 2018.

But on Wednesday, figures released by the government showed the figure had dropped to 0.81 - down three points from the previous year, and a sixth consecutive decline.

North Korea will end up controlling the South - their rate, still pretty low, is twice that at 1.6

    https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.TFRT.IN?locations=KR-KP

The BBC, in the hands of childless feminists, see this as a tale of female empowerment.

Women in South Korea are highly educated, yet far from equal in the workplace. The country has the highest gender pay gap of any rich country. Most of the housework and childcare in South Korea still falls to women and it is common for women to stop work after having children or for their careers to stagnate.

Essentially, many women here are still forced to choose between having a career and having a family. Increasingly they are deciding they don't want to sacrifice their careers.

I'm sure in their old age they'll look back at that urgent audit they got under the deadline, or the promotions they won, as they sit alone on their birthdays in front of the TV.

I have often thought that the current DIE craze has 2 major sources: one, a realization by the more perceptive policy elites that all the social interventions of the last 60 years are a failure and even turning up the dial to 11 still won't close the gaps and two, the changing demographics of the country means the constituency for putting black cultural concerns first is dissolving. Thus it is necessary to make a hard push to try to cement in place racial quotas now to retain black political loyalty in the future because the need to attract enough Asian and Latino voters in the years ahead coupled with their divergent interests from blacks will be an extremely difficult balancing act that will deliver more disappointments to their black constituency than they are accustomed to.

Yep - despite the occasional op-ed in the NYT from some Asian lady talking about how blacks and Asians should be political allies, I don't know a single Asian person who thinks they have anything in common with blacks at all. Hispanics and Asians do not have white guilt and do not want to sacrifice the educational, economic, or personal safety of themselves or kids so blacks feel better.

Right now the Dems can stitch together enough gullible whites, nearly all blacks, and a healthy amount of Hispanics and Asians to be nationally competitive. But the growing numbers and economic impact of the latter two that are part of the Dem coalition means at some point the party is going to have to deal with them and their divergent interests from their black base.

And frankly, it will be better for the entire country if black political and cultural demands are treated in proportion to their contributions to society, which one might call "equity."

Yet the entire impetus for space exploration appears to be capital-R Romanticism, of the sort that would have appealed to Shelley, Byron, Keats, etc. More inspired by science fiction than identifiable material needs/benefits. I agree, California isn’t cheap but some things are good values.

    1. Property tax starts at 1% and can’t go up more than 2% a year. After 10-20 years you are paying maybe 0.3%.

    2. Low AC requirements, and gas heating is cheap and not needed as much as elsewhere.

    3. Big undeveloped or very lightly developed open spaces dominate the big cities and suburbs. Residential lots can be smaller without feeling cramped.

    4. Quality fresh produce is the overall cheapest in the USA. Citrus for 5 or 10 cents a pound in season.

There’s a certain level of tasteful and elite living you need very expensive housing for. When you have an area of 2000sf homes on small lots and strong anti-development zoning that cost $1.5 million or more, you have an area where the people are quality, but lack the space to be gaudy and ostentatious. You can also have a nice walkable street life, which you miss if you are in a Dallas or Atlanta suburb of 1.5 million homes that are on half acres and 5000sf and nobody walks anywhere, and may lack sidewalks. I don’t think those areas are bad, but it is nice California has both big pimpin’ mcmansion exurbs and lots of classy inner suburbs.

Ultimately though, the high cost of California homes is illusory, homes here are actually free to most homeowners. My down payment and past ten years of mortgage and property tax payments add up to about $400,000. My tax deductions and equity buildup have been at least a million. The “rent” on my house has been essentially $5,000 of profit per month, year after year, and possibly never taxed due to stepped up basis of capital gains at death.

Maybe the gravy will stop running at some point, but we are more than 100 years into a multigenerational growth market, and our biggest source of new funds, tech nerds and Chinese, are both trending richer.

California is 5.4% non-hispanic black compared to 13% in the other 49 states. More Jews+Chinese here than Blacks. SF area has the highest per capita GDP in the world for large metropolitan areas.

OT, but a very important (and very lengthy!) report by Jonathan Swan in Axios on Trump's plans if he comes back in '24.

    The key takeaway points:

    1) Ivanka and Jared are gone, kaput, finished.

    2) Trump and Trumpworld now realize that Trump was naive is dealing with the Deep State: he cannot trust career officials and has to move to fire them when necessary, and he cannot appoint "competent" Swamp critters who are not America Firsters.

    3) Speaking of "America First," Trumpworld is now openly embracing that grand old phrase from the Old Right.

    4) Trumpworld now knows that this is war for the future of America: the Left wants to destroy our country and we must fight for it.

The report is very encouraging: it gives me some real hope that Trump II might start to turn the direction of the ship of state.

    So what's missing?

    A) An awareness that the educational system, from K-12 to the universities, is the incubator of the rot: is simply has to be annihilated.

    B) An understanding that the key economic threat we face is the huge overhang caused by people whose "jobs" consist of manipulating words to control their fellow human beings rather than producing physical goods and services that people want to buy with their own money: we need the euthanasia of this "parasitic verbalist overclass."

    C) Our financial and monetary system is a Ponzi scheme: at the very least, we need to neuter the Fed.

So, points 1-4 are only the beginning of a rebirth for America.

But it is an important start.

This is symptomatic of why I say “separation”.

Any normal civilized society condemns homosexuality and is willing to lower the boom on them “as necessary”.

This monkeypox crap is trivially easy to stop. Quarantine the homosexuals who have it, are spreading it. Shutdown/ban homosexual solicitation–Grindr, on-line invites, bathhouses, parties. Arrest and jail anyone doing it. This is far easier and about ten orders of magnitude less damaging to society than what was done for the Fauci. But we can not do it–anymore. Minoritarianism trumps public health everything.

Maybe normies spewing millions of words, carefully enlisting allies, electing this of that politician can sorta kinda get a small win on some fringe issue–say trannies beating up girls. Wow. That buys us what exactly? Other folks here might think the truth of our arguments must eventually carry the day and we’re going to stack up small, then bigger wins and turn this around. I don’t.

It came as a jewish sect, as an alternative against their suffering from so many humiliations by the unbeatable Romans Europeans. Christianity contrasts with indigenous ancient European religions, which openly valued the strong, the brave and the beaultiful. Much of the explanation of why Europeans are so condescending with people from weaker races, is because our culture is permeated with Christian values.

I used to find it comforting that even though the rest of society is swirling around the shitter, at least the military is full of “normal guys” who didn’t buy into the bullshit and who - if it ever came to that - would be the final barricade between America and the totalitarian nonsense. Much like the Oathkeepers, the Normal rank and file would refuse the ultimate orders if it came to that.

I guess in a way, it’s somewhat still reassuring that those normal guys are no longer signing up now that the wokerati have captured the military as well.

However, that is more than offset by the fact that the wokerati have the tanks and other weapons that could eventually be used in service of totalitarianism and they most likely wouldn’t be afraid to use them if need be against “racists” and “fascists”. There are plenty of examples in fiction where this has been foreseen, from the Turner Diaries to the Schlichter books.
