“I had learned another important lesson: the Constitution’s protection of press freedom could check even the world’s most powerful espionage agency.” That’s love. Tom’s Dispatch helped kill 5% of the population of Iraq in their own little way – as fake protesters and participants. But that’s another story that won’t be told.
Americans don’t need to wait for the CIA to tell us the news via the Washington Post, NYT or Tom’s Dispatch – it’s 24/7. Big Brother has always lied about “press freedom”, can’t have an empire without it. Quote Orwell and then use the same propaganda techniques described by Orwell.
A rebel that blathers about Lockheed and Goldman being inhibited by the President isn’t even entertaining anymore, it’s beyond stupid. Nobody cares about the lead actor in an oligarchy and that’s real rebellion and a real problem for the masters.
Go ahead you can do it – stop reading the deep state’s social media and think, think for yourself. If you were the deep state you’d fake at least some information all over the internet. You’d make your important media employees
– former spooks, ex-military or regular ol’ guys -into trusted rebels and heros for the sheeple. Far more subtle than North Korea, the writers would be gettin’ the truth out – but you’d finally know better.
Bezos is opportunistically revisiting a famous Reagan-era chant and justification for more defense spending. The fear, loathing and the mini-nuke, which probably fits in an armored suitcase. China has already scolded the American mafia, brand names include Lockheed and Goldman “we are swamp” Sachs. Get an Alexa and talk to it, pro-Trumpers! Spread your Schamir verbally.
Mini-nukes and Korea are good for the Post, Bezos and Trump too – who all act their roles in the US stage play. Trump is of the swamp, regardless of the dozens of insouciant* story tellers’ opeds to the contrary.
*insouciant – favored adjective of propagandist Paul Craig Roberts, most often used to describe Americans, the press, personalities, “prestititutes”, “whoredom” and at one time, anyone who was opposed to the
psyop pro-Trump movement. The opposition to the pro-Trump movement being a psyop to begin with.
Nonsense. The wealthiest areas of the United States depend on military largesse and/or military keynesianism – right down to the house cleaners and the massage parlors. War profiteers always win, more money than the banksters – long live socialism. Every good conservative licks the boots of the “job creators” and abhors the immorality of welfare for the never-do-wells.
The comedy writers and spooks at Tom’s Dispatch want you to think in the simplest of terms: the enemy, win, lose, your wallet, taxes, and lots of zeros: “Jeeze that’s really ‘spensive”
If housing prices fall, the F-35 might run out of gas. If millions of US prisoners weren’t used as slaves for military production, that would be losing too. These wars are too obscure right? Not really, the drug war supports the troops too.
You can do it, ask yourself which came first, the chicken or the egg? In America, the journalist or politician who appears to be complaining about “the outrageous price tag of militarism” is in reality working to sustain the only thing this country has. The military employs its own so-called detractors – the chicken and the egg came at the same time. Hartung really wants to “win” and you should know what that means by now – defending the moral authority to kill people.
The Deep State selected Trump for the stage show. probably for the sake of controversy itself. One reason for this is that American politicians are furiously hated and a more “regular guy” like the one you saw on tv was needed. The kinda guy some part of the population will side with no matter what, but who is actually just another hapless rich gangster appointed via a rigged referendum who will fuck your future just as much as any other would.
Empire conducts entertaining distractions while rot and desperation multiply in former middle class suburbs. An impeachment is top rated entertainment. You get handed some bread but mostly circuses. Trump has that je ne sais quoi – that magic touch of a real estate bully and actor. On with the show then, the more dramatic the better.
Trump himself would admit impeachment would make ratings soar. Millions of Americans would take things seriously, just as they do now when they read the script in the Post or the Times or their favorite off-the-beaten-path web propaganda. When it gets real hard for a majority of people to eat three square meals and pay the rent then you’ll see Trump, politics, your ideas and the big show never really mattered at all. Then the curtain will be lifted and you may have to run.
Englehardt spent his younger life studying how to kill people with overt violence. He graduated fully prepared to deliver the most effective weapon of all – writing. So, ‘Tom’s propaganda’ is distributed to a large number of our favorite social media sites.
Simple, folksy tales of how the world works is how the state inculculates the populace in an immolating empire.
A summary of what we’ve read: “Ignore that circus, what we have over here is serious, but not too serious, because there’s nothing you can do about it anyway ‘because politicians’ ”
Englehardt et al underhandedly support the status quo by pretending to resist it, pretending that you do have some kind of say in how the country is run. Protecting the status qup by disabling you and preventing any real challenges via their weapon of information may be what runs the country, but you will need alternatives for survival.
Incidentally, Ralph Nader has never strayed from this basic formula in 50 years. His role is to disable rising dissatisfaction (quality control issues) in a country based on military capitalism. It’s always the ones you least suspect. As Nader ages, he writes that enemies of empire are somehow suicidal. Presumably, someone will decide who the “enemies” are long after this delusionally arrogant CIA agent passes away. He won’t live to see the death of the internal combustion engine he worked so hard to protect. The horrendous cost and questionable benefits to the world the automobile wrought are inextricably linked to the genocidal war in which time he rose to fame.
Spooks with credentials. Most of the effort spent by our “press’ is to deliver propaganda to the flock is so that they adopt the ‘proper world view’. (This is something we learned in high school) The fans still aspire to read, believe and comment with their own thoughts on the content authored by ex-military patriots, and champions of the constitution. who appear to be “working for the good of mankind.”
Once we’re able to graduate from the false idea that what we read is delivered by people who have benevolent goals for us – whether it’s Turse or the credentialed sociopath whose own son died senselessly in combat – in a war that he “strenously disagreed” with – we can begin to grow a sense of our own captivity. We understand that monitoring the populace is second only to delivering propaganda to them, and then we can reject their fairy tales and nonsense.
Soldiers in many wars (not just that war) shot their commanding officers in the back of the head, they knew the only way to survive would be a complete divorce from the hapless fantasies of their abusers. Hi Pig!
Petras, for some reason, low balls the number of people ejected from
assets when the mafia came to seize real estate in the name of the ruling class and their expensive wars, morality, the Constitution or whatever shit they could make up to fuck huge numbers of people over. Undoubtedly just like 9/11, the whole thing was planned in advance. Political whores are clearly useless when the system is at such extremes.
Banks like Capital One specialize in getting a signature and “giving” a car loan to someone they know won’t
be able to pay, but is simply being used, shaken down and repossessed
for corporate gain. ” No one held a gun to their head! ” Get ready, the police state will in fact put a gun to your head.
Depending on the time period in question, which might be the case here, more than 20 million people were put out of homes and/or bankrupted with more to come. Clearly a bipartisan effort featuring widespread criminal conduct across the country – an attack on the population to sustain militarism.
Poland and the CIA – what memories, what a work over! Lech Walesa and Solidarność. No wonder they cheer Trump, but they might as well be cheering any US President and that’s the point.
Americans are long worked over – they are led to believe in some fictional mass of opposition “that hates white people so they oppose Trump” and the standard false equivalence of a “main stream media” that isn’t themselves to begin with! The so-called left are the dancing partners who play their part in this fraud – put up targets so the other team can shoot at them, that isn’t left, and that isn’t right.
There is no real opposition to Trump. He’s a walking clown, pay attention if you must. But the mainstream media includes Kirkpatrick as much as it does The Atlantic and Vox and Fox and CNN. Super national corporations delivering control over your lives. When they tell you who, what and when you should foam at mouth you’ll obey – ‘those damn other guys!’
The unelected mob with their clowns on podiums doesn’t concern themselves with borders, security and punishment the way their controlled minions are programmed to. These are there weapons – they’ll publish every op-ed online if need be for you to cheer on the use of these weapons. Wear your weblinks like Solidarnosc buttons. You love Lockheed and you hate the others.
Trump agreed to a ceasefire. It happened before: Obama agrees and - oops - the next day American planes bomb Syrian forces. And who ordered it, the president himself or a rogue organization inside (or outside?) Pentagon is anyone's guess. I think it's a wait&see at this point.Replies: @Ben Banned
The two most powerful nations agree to a cease fire, in less than two hours
The US decided to bomb Syrian forces – period. Same thing that happened in April. The US is very smart about how they send messages, first they launch cruise missles after the press has built an impressive strawman prior to doing so, a strawman that is only reinforced by a chorus of so-called opposing writers who strenously disagree with the strawman of the news cycle. This was very effective. No other discussion via the press was possible at that point – it was gas yes, or gas no – not “why are we in Syria anyway?” There happens to be a war in Syria (the war) and it’s called an information war and it’s a war like any other.
Following any belligerent military action, such as a missle strike. a team of media advocators will build a soap opera that details who made the decision, why they did it and add in plenty of make believe drama.
This is precisely what happened in April and will happen again. The “dueling” press is ensconsed in a fake debate – “they gassed or didn’t gas” – the public is already brainwashed into accepting that “gas” means the US military can kill with impunity with ‘politically correct’ explosive weapons.
Weeks later, we see a follow up broadcast, delivered over every lefty and righty media outlet that pretends to be a beacon of truth – The new fairy tale arrived from the institution of Seymour Hersh, a long standing CIA intermediary with adoring fans everywhere who somehow believe in media folk heros to show them the “truth”.
Hersh implied that it’s ok to kill women and children more efficiently than My Lai once the intelligence guys say “it was gas”. Hersh will never write such a thing, but he tries to make the case that it wasn’t ok to launch missles, but otherwise would have been ok to kill women and children more efficiently than My Lai.
Hersh writes that the intelligence guys – good guys this time – advised that there was no gas, but incidental gas from the rebels. This message (according to Hersh) was delivered but ignored by the evil politician Trump who “called the shots” and fired the missles anyway. Impressive bullshit. But do you see how it works? Everyone is convinced that Syria should be about the Orange Realtor and whether he is good or bad, allow yourself to be driven to stupidity, you can’t resist.
Hersh delivered a very convincing batch of non-sensical blather that scored a psychic double tap on the minds of the American sheep. Side show Trump, like most American politicians are employees and front men. Writers like Hersh or the Sucker are employees tasked first with persuasion and propaganda to keep your middling focus on the politicians.
The US is losing it’s place in the world partly because because its fairy tales no longer have credibilty with her citizens – even as they grow more fantastic, conspiratorial or pseudo-scientific. Each time the US military is firing weapons somewhere they are simultaneously aiming a stream of weaponized information directly at your head – this is something you must try to remember.
I enjoy the magical saker – it’s all about war with this one, and the only war you’re supposed to believe exists is one with guns n’ shootin’ and who has the most weapons verus the other country. As if every American who manages to get out of bed in the morning is looking at a Reagan-era graph of how many fighter jets each side has and feels real anxiety because “they could get us”.
Americans pay their rents, mortgages and bills and wonder how they are going to make it next month – they don’t buy the disinfo offered by the likes of Tom’s “CIA” Dispatch or the magical Sucker.
The US military machine is the penultimate welfare queen bar none. They are at war with the remains of the middle class, their dignity and their autonomy. The US is not in a cold war, they are militarily and economically weak – their citizens are in the middle of a storm of fiction wrought by all of their media.
The day will come, if it hasn’t already, where more prosperous countries will look at the US Police State with awe and pity for the citizens held captive by propaganda systems that rival any totalitarian hell of the 20th century.
could [media] be better put: Medium? Not a nitpick, just a quibble with the question of singular vs plural, in a case of something having morphed , unnoticed into something different. the many various independent little small town papers, and large ones too, Media that were so beneficial in the day, into a unitary (monolithic thing) with a number of store fronts. A thing that is obviously pretense of any independence. But hey, at least it is reassuring and calming... like the music in supermarkets...!
The US is not in a cold war, they are militarily and economically weak – their citizens are in the middle of a storm of fiction wrought by all of their media.
Could get worse, and these ''more prosperous countries'' may be in Awe, if not Shocked enough, to Ponder their own safety in any presumption of continued security as may have ever existed in prior times, to whether they can expect to be sheltered, or aloof from Danger by any Checks and Balancing mechanism from the Consent of a Well Informed Populous, in that country (the Seat of Democracy)?
The day will come, if it hasn’t already, where more prosperous countries will look at the US Police State with awe and pity for the citizens held captive by propaganda systems that rival any totalitarian hell of the 20th century.
You’re missing the point, the more well known CIA propagandists have been boring people for years on end. The more intensive techniques are to metaphorically plant explosives underneath of everything people believe to be true. Not only is this uniquely entertaining, it is highly effective for the goal of control. You’ll be shrugging eventually and claiming the whole wide world is all a fraud and an illusion. You didn’t need to swallow any pills it was all on Google. Make your own reality, write your own algorithms, be a better Barrett than Barrett who I believe is connected to Wall Street and the Pentagon for his “lunch money”.
http://www.salon.com/2005/03/10/bankrupt/
U.S. senators are about to pass a bankruptcy bill so hostile to ordinary American families that it could only have come about in a place as corrupt, cynical and unmoored from reality as Washington, D.C.
A couple of obvious externalities our Chinese cheerleader/manic industrialist ignores . China still has an immense number of poor people who will die poor with lives spent in shitty factories with worse outcomes in rural areas. China can’t even put catalytic converters on their millions of diesels. South East Asia is now as toxic as sewer in some parts. Commie-capitalism better get stoic and do something about the damage. Note how the US thrashes about in desperation, wanting to set fire to everything. Her citizens are immersed in daily big brother style monitoring as they
comment and rage on grade school level impulse driven “economics” blather on social media.
Does America need a better centralized authoritarian police state to get ‘er done? Maybe. But the mafia in power now is more concerned about housing prices and its military. Public transportation? Jobs? Housing? More like a feast for parasites with a big fat military cancer.
The US can still use finance through China to make land war in Afghanistan but the cost is driving casualities and social disasters all over the USA. Maybe China won’t destroy itself like the magical thinking fools of the USA have.
What would you consider North East Asia?
South East Asia is now as toxic as sewer in some parts.
Not really, unless they bring a big bag of cash with them, then they are highly valued. Otherwise, it’s just something they write and say to destroy the
natives self-esteem and the all important task of playing the enemies off of each other.
The progressive Bankers want you to be less racist and more inviting while they profit and launder the drug cartel, drug war, legal opiate, foreclosure, bankruptcy, debt and the accompanying police militarization and incarceration industries.
We have a war on in this country that is getting uglier. Plenty of dead bodies. Fools still think “security” and
“borders” aren’t going to be turned
around and aimed at them.
Wasn't that a Ron Paul line: "What makes you think that wall won't be used to keep you in?"
"We have a war on in this country that is getting uglier. Plenty of dead bodies. Fools still think “security” and “borders” aren’t going to be turned around and aimed at them."
The “folks” have to grow out of credulity, if possible. St Claire et al work hard on delivering op-eds that appear to be outside the status quo but serve as more effective agitprop for target audiences.
It is far more important to monitor – in real time – the public’s consideration of the fraudulent Democracy.
Most folks are able to call bullshit on honeypot political hate sites and the long standing worthless proselytism of so-called left or right hacks. So, by all means don’t shoot the messenger, ignore them or know when you are being fooled.
Debian with the ssl bug that quietly existed for years – most likely for spying? That OS? That “community” effort? Which is basically derived from (Redhat) which is the DOD? Pffrt. Most of this is nonsense.
The NSA has made people their bitch, in the most obvious ways. In the spirit of security then and being a dutiful patriotic bitch – keep posting on social media given to you by the “truth tellers”. They are here to help you right? Tell you all the truthiness because they “were” in the military, and “were” spooks. Keep your iphones close and let your mind do the deep state’s thinking.
Exactly – as long as these kids are carrying iphones, school, car and credit card debt, polypharmacy from American chemical
factories and blog coverage that keeps ’em divided – it’s gonna be allright. They can do the carefully scripted civil rights blather while their opposition (also following a carefully assembled
script) calls them snowflakes. Meanwhile the real swindles are hidden from view. The goal here is quite simple – to destroy education for the potential threat it is – a multi-decades project.
The CIA is desperate to enhance the perception of militarism in the American mind. That’s why assassins like Sjursen and the war loving writers of Tom’s Dispatch dedicate themselvs to controlling opposition by sounding so rational, almost anti-war, and gosh darn it, frugal. Winning in their efforts to kill civilians when needed – in other words.
This baby killer starts his article sounding like a John Wayne protege goin’ after the natural resources of Afghanistan under the great lie of terror. Right in the action where he wanted to call in another pallet of cash from the Treasury Department.
