Tubi Thursday: Krampus- The Return (2024)

As Krampus Nacht is nigh, I have to cover another one of these.

This one is a recent one too, so it must be good...right?

A guy calls his Sister wanting her to come back and help him deal with Krampus.

The titular creature shows up and kills him.

She goes to his House in the aftermath.
The killer creature makes sure to...kill a random businessman and a prostitute?

He was in the House at the beginning...but alright.
He also kills a Gardener.  Cool?

He briefly appears to talk to our Heroine and then vanishes.
That...was something.
With about 20 minutes left in the Film, we finally get Krampus in the House with them.

We got to this amount of runtime by adding some random drama that I won't bore you with.
Given that our leftmost victim looks like the least fortunate victim from In A Violent Nature, I don't like her odds.
To find out what happens, check out this Promo Image for the Film that has since been deleted from Facebook...I mean, the Movie.

No, I didn't make this.
The Poster cliche continues!
A Film that I was momentarily thinking could be good.

Sadly, it quickly turns into the usual Direct-to-Streaming Horror Film that seems to pop up 3x a month from Britain.  They have fields, latex and plenty of free time, I guess.

Is this better than those Leprechaun Films?  Not really.

The Krampus mask looks cool- I like the horns.  I just wish they had an actual full outfit for him.
If the mouth actually moved, that would have been nice too.

The Film's opening narration talks about how the German Villages fought an army of Krampus beings (or Krampi).  They don't show this, so screw you.

This is super generic and even the kills aren't interesting.  No amount of 3rd Act Twist can save this- sorry.
Just imagine a more interesting Film- in AI Slop form.
A Film that starts out strong...and quickly loses steam.  If they put the effort into the rest of the Film, this might not have sucked.

Tubi Thursday: Krampus- The Reckoning (2015)

Let's wrap our yearly look at Krampus Films up with one that I probably should have done first.

When you look up Krampus Films, this one usually comes up first.

Is it the bad CGI?  The 2015 release date?

Yes.

In the Cold Open, a young girl talks to her Grandma about how unhappy she is.

She's told the story of Krampus (we're told).

Some vague amount of time later, a girl is annoyed with her Foster Parents and pulls out a strange doll.
A terrible CGI Model...I mean, Krampus shows up and kills both of them.

We are told that they were burned up as well.
This Cop- who looks like Claudio Castagnoli if you squint- is on the case.

It only gets harder when a Nurse that the girl doesn't like is killed by Krampus too.

At least they sprung for the make-up effects on him.
The Child Psychologist is on the case.

She's got her own stuff going on too, from her adopted Son to her strange scar and her lack of childhood memories.

I'm sure that won't pan out.
Krampus is continuing to punish those that are bad, seemingly at the girl's beck and call.

This...is really what they went with.
Can the truth get revealed?
Will it make any sense?

To find out, ho-ho-hop on over to Tubi to stream it now.
One of the OG Krampus Films- even if still only exists due to the Hollywood Film.

This one is weird.  Let me do the positives...

Krampus is a Monster.
The Plot is more complex than it seems.
Oh and there's lots of random Nudity that comes out of nowhere, if that does it for you.

The negatives- that Krampus Model is so blatantly CGI.  Couldn't you make a mask or something for close-ups?
Credit for not making him look like Ares like in that last Film, but...this CGI Model is a good start and nothing more.
Hell, even if you can't afford better, show it sparingly!

The Plot is so bizarre that it kind of warps around from making no sense to being clever.  It's still not good, but they also didn't take the easy way out.

They did, however, get me an early present- another fake Movie Search Engine...

There are worse Krampus Films and it aimed high.  Unfortunately, the Plot was still kind of silly when you really think about it for five seconds.

Tubi Thursday: Krampus- Origins (2018)

You want to know Krampus' origins?

Read a book, nerd!

This is...not that Movie.

*** FYI that Cover is a lie.  Most of these ones are though. ***

In 1918, WWI is going on and a German baddie is playing with a magical book and amulet.

The American Soldier with it is later killed and this will matter...in about 30 minutes.
This 85 minute Film has to hit that length somehow!

As such, all of that Krampus stuff won't matter for a while as we meet this Nun who runs an Orphanage.
She works there with the One Black Guy, a Drunk Father, a Nun into the Occult and a new Teacher.
One girl in the group is inspired to try and study Alchemy.

She sneaks out every night with a guy to do...well, you can guess.

This will also matter later.
The Nun into the Occult helps out with the kids, which include a kid with a stutter, a bunch of young Extras, two Bullies and two Nice Girls.

Note how I'm STILL not talking about Krampus!
The Soldier's stuff is sent to the Orphanage, since he was the now-former Husband of the new Teacher.
After watching Pearl, I'm worried about said Teacher going nuts herself!

The Book is read by the sneaky girl and a POV Krampus is summoned.

Even at 46 minutes, we still don't see a thing!
Krampus then takes the form of, sigh, an evil kid to pad this one out a bit.

He eventually makes his move, putting everyone in danger.

Can this Demon be stopped on Christmas?!?

To find out, stream it now.
This one was a bit of a chore!

Positives- the Story itself isn't bad. The Acting is fine.
This isn't a bad Movie in the usual sense.

If this was just a Drama about kids in an Orphanage during WWI with some sort of normal, mortal peril in place, I wouldn't complain.

Granted- I watched this as a 'Krampus' Film, so I probably wouldn't have seen it.

This kind of thing can work to varying degrees of success from The Woman in Black 2 to The Orphanage to (the far better) The Devil's Backbone.

This is BARELY a Film about Krampus and what we get is a silly origin with him locked up in a magic book by Fairies!  Lame.

This Krampus is more like Ares from Wonder Woman and it is all kinds of disappointing.
Just give me a guy in a Krampus suit killing people/kidnapping children and I'd be happy.

I just want this!

A Film that isn't bad in the conventional sense.  It is just bad for not being a Film about what it should be (and being all that interesting in the process).

Tubi Thursday: Krampus 2- The Devil Returns (2016)

So back in 2016, I reviewed the 2013 Film Krampus: The Christmas Devil.
In 2016, they also released a Sequel.

In 2022, I finally covered it.
I wished that I had waited until 2032...

Krampus is back in this small Town and is kidnapping kids.

The first one we see is a kid who breaks into an empty House to vandalize it.  His friend is there too, so...death, I guess.
It has been 5 years since the last Film and that one's Hero (of sorts) has been hiding out.

He's called back in to help solve the kidnappings, which is happening earlier this year.

Is he Tom Green now?
That sardonic Santa is back and he's passing on his Naughty List (which is just a boring piece of paper) to Krampus.

Also, yes, these shots were done the same way.
Lazy Cinematography is lazy.
Making things harder is this Crime Boss Guy (with like 4 goons) who wants to kill our Hero on account of him killing his Brother (friend of the Site Bill Oberst Jr.).

What does this mean for the Film?

It means that KRAMPUS- the Title Character- is just gone for the next 30+ minutes.  Joy.
Will our Heroes be able to stop Krampus and/or the Criminals?
Will I be able to stay awake during this dreary Film?

To find out, stream it now...I guess...Ho Ho Ho?
Wow, this...is not good.  I was hoping to have softened on this in the 6 Years since I saw the original Film.

Nope.  Still sucks.  Alot.

It is dark, dreary and pretty listless.  It's just so uninteresting.  The Acting is not good enough to liven things up when you get such 'rich' settings as An Empty House, a barely lit Bar, a Barn and someone's barely lit House.

Why is it so hard to make a Krampus Film?  Oh right- they didn't make one.

This is a 'Krampus Film' where the guy barely does anything but kills a few random people and... that's it.  Again- he's barely in this Film.

I guess I'll stick with the old stuff from the Comics...

A Film that isn't about what it should be.  Just make a fun Krampus Film, folks- it's not difficult!

Tubi Thursday: Vikings vs. Krampus (2020)

Back home, I can watch another Horror Film on Tubi.  Lucky me.

Since Christmas is nigh, how about something that's related to it...but also not at all?

This is...

In the Cold Open, a strange being- I guess it is Krampus- confronts a kid in the Woods.

He teases being nice to the kid and then kills him...off-camera.
The Film follows that up with a boatload of Exposition about the time, place and Story.
Classic Tell, Don't Show and it's as exciting as ever.

The Plot- such as it is- involves a group of Vikings- like 5 of them- who are going to kill a King (who has no Army, since this Film has no Budget).

The King flees to save himself, but is caught in the Woods.
A very-lengthy and very-underwhelming series of swordfights ensues as all but King and Queen are killed.  Their Daughter- who's way too blonde for a mixed-race girl in 812 AD- is taken by the Vikings as well.

The duo is wounded but survive when some Witches (aka 2 Ladies in a Hut) revive them.

They offer the King a deal- summon Krampus the Yule Devil (which is oddly NOT the Title) and he'll slay their enemies.  The price will be paid in 10 years.
Of course, it is not that simple.  There's also the matter of that opening Scene.  I think even the Back Row can figure out this twist.

To find out how the Film ends, stream it now.
I'll just enjoy a cooler Krampus myself.
A cheap little Film that really tries to do too much.

Look- I get it.  I was someone who wanted to make a Film at one point.  Okay, I was *friends* with someone who wanted to make a Film, but the point is the same.  I applaud the effort.

The problem is that they tried to make a Film that needs to be done with way more resources, people and backing.  There's no Castle- just random exteriors that might be in an old Castle.  There's no Army.  The Vikings 'attack the Castle,' but they can't actually show it, since, again, no Castle.

The Acting is alright but can't elevate things.  It's a Horror Film with no real Horror.  It's an Action Film with terrible action- picture shaky cam with the camera pointed just overhead to hide the action.  It's a Period Film with no Period details to show off.

I'm happy for them that they got to make a Movie.  I'm just not happy that I, unfortunately, had to fall half-asleep watching it.

Just think- I could have skipped it entirely if it was under the original Title...

A bad Film is a bad Film, no matter the effort.  At least the King's glorious beard is something to enjoy.

Tubi Thursday: Mother Krampus 2- Slay Ride

'Tis the Season for misleading Film Posters and low-budget Horror.  Merry Whatever-you-Celebrate and I hope you have more fun than I did with...

As the Intro hinted it, this is a bit misleading.

Okay, it's alot misleading.

There's no lady Krampus or even a Santa outfit (on our killer).

This generic look is what they really have.
With that out of the way, we get a prolonged pre-Title Scene involving 4 people (only 3 of whom that are set up at all) being killed...slowly...one at a time...by our killer.

Some decent make-up doesn't make up for those 10 minutes of basically nothing.
The actual Plot involves a quartet of characters- three women and one man in drag- who must do court-ordered community service.

3 of them are just plain awful.
The 4th is a blank slate who mostly just looks sad sometimes.

You're stuck with them for the next hour.

Chug that nog!
They 'dick around' a bit before ending up at a poor woman's house to finish their final night of service.

Of course, the killer is actually the one there.

Since we know this, we're just counting the seconds until the next kill.

You've got to wait about 2,700 of them, so...enjoy.
Who will live and who will die?

The answer to the second is most likely 'your soul.'

To find out, stream the Film on Tubi.
I mean, what was I expecting?  The last one of these was a pretty nothing, if not cruel Horror Film about a German Witch. Was I *really* expecting an old Krampus Lady?  No.

Was I expecting something at least passable?  Yes.

This was originally made to be released as The Naughty List (something mentioned enough times to justify the Title) or Naughty List (take your pick).  With the original Title, it's a nothing Slasher Film on Christmas with mostly-awful Characters, a slow pace and only a few good make-up bits to make it acceptable.

As Mother Krampus 2, it is a bad Film with few highlights AND you've been 'tricked.'  This is just the Dark Harvest Series all over again, just jumping from the burgeoning DVD Market to Streaming.  I would have settled for, oh, I don't know, a terribly-fake CGI Krampus at this point instead...

It's a lie that hides a Film that isn't really that good either.  At least trick me into watching something good for a change!

Holiday Flix: Mother Krampus (2017)

It is 2020, so let's be more inclusive.  There are enough Krampus Movies out there to cover, but the ladies don't get enough coverage.  Let's fix that...

So right off the bat, let's address the obvious...

There is no Mother Krampus.
A DVD Marketing Company came up with that name and someone spent 2 Hours in Photoshop slapping this together.

If you saw this Film before some re-marketing, it was called this...
The Film is actually about Frau Perchta (whom they always pronounce without the 't' in her last name).  It is a real Legend from Germany about an evil Witch.

In this case, there's more to her arrival, but I'll get to that.
On a whim, I decided to see how close their version of Frau got.

I'm not sure if it is accurate, but this drawing of her I found online does beat the Film's...
So the Film makes the Story a bit unclear, but I'll summarize...

In 1922, a bunch of kids went missing.
In 1992, more kids went missing.

This time, however, a local weirdo was blamed and hung by angry Parents in the Woods.
She called on Frau Perchta to 'be there in this moment' and get her revenge.

For some reason, she waited until 2017.
So now in the 12 Days (leading up to) of Christmas, she is kidnapping their kids' kids and killing random people that are in the way.

She's a bit unfocused, as Frau often gets distracted by gross-out horror like cutting skin up into Christmas Cookies.
Can our Heroes/Heroines survive her wrath?  Will she get her wish?  Will they actually nail down what powers and/or weaknesses she has?

To find out, stream the Film.  I saw it on Tubi, but you do you.
Can you return gifts before Christmas?  This one is...not great.  To say all of the nice stuff first, they were a little original.  It's not a killer Santa and it's not Krampus.  In defense of the Filmmakers, they weren't going for that angle.  There are moments that work, mostly the ones of build-up and suspense.  When the freaky-looking Witch is sort of stalking people.  When she just kind of looks freaky in the background or trying to lure kids in, it works.  The problem is that the Film has to go all in for the cheap, gross-out gore.  Frau Perchta can't just kill you- she has to do all sorts of body horror to you.  I can admire the creativity to a point, but it reaches far past excessive many times.  They just go on and on- meh.  Being gross or cruel in a Film just to be gross or cruel doesn't do anything for me.  The Plot is kind of a mess too.  So the first murders mentioned in the Intro were Frau Perchta, but the other ones weren't.  That woman- who claimed to be innocent- pulls a Freddy Kreuger...only she doesn't come back.  It's like if a woman was killed in a Film and then called on Candyman to get revenge- it's less satisfying.  Have her become Frau Perchta, drop the summoning angle all together OR have her working with the Witch.  Do a little twist and reveal that there are TWO Witches.  Do something else other than this.  I was tempted to do the Sequel- apparently not made by these people- too, but I'm suffering enough with this one.  Oh and thanks to the Film's Facebook Page, I can see the *actual* original Title...

A Film that has some real promise to deliver low-budget Horror.  Ultimately though, it gets too silly and excessive for my taste.
