Hello Cacti Users, I am to the Cacti environment and would like some assistance with getting Cacti to work on a Windows 2003 Server. I read the recommended liditure, and I am unable to launch a successful login page after typing in http://localhost. I am using IIS v6 and the site's home directory is pointing to c:\inetput\wwwroot\cacti. Index.php has also been added and is declared as the default site page.. Any assistance will be appreciative!! |

What do you mean when saying "rrdtool update just doesn't run". Does it throws an error? Which? Does it run, but are the graphs "empty"? Does it run, but graphs are broken? So far I'm seeing '1' graphed rather than '1000 m'. For anyone in the future searching for an answer on bogus 1000 value where you expected the value 1 to be graphed, here is your answer. At least it seemed to work in my case, for two to the power of one graphs. |

As I told you, y-axis scaling is a feature of rrdtool, called autoscaling. This
feature tries to find the best resolution for the numbers currently graphed. And
again "1000 m" stands for "1000 milli" which means the single number "1" (1000 *
1/1000 == 1).
Usually, when all numbers a slightly below 1.000, rrdtool will switch to such a
y-axis scale.
You can govern autoscaling, e.g. by
[-X|--units-exponent value]
This sets the 10**exponent scaling of the y-axis values. Normally,
values will be scaled to the appropriate units (k, M, etc.). However, you may
wish to
display units always in k (Kilo, 10e3) even if the data is in the M
(Mega, 10e6) range, for instance. Value should be an integer which is a multiple
of 3
between -18 and 18 inclusively. It is the exponent on the units you
wish to use. For example, use 3 to display the y-axis values in k (Kilo, 10e3,
thousands), use -6 to display the y-axis values in u (Micro, 10e-6,
millionths). Use a value of 0 to prevent any scaling of the y-axis values.
This option is very effective at confusing the heck out of the default
RRDtool autoscaling function and grid painter. If RRDtool detects that it is not
successful in labeling the graph under the given circumstances, it will
switch to the more robust --alt-y-grid mode.
You're sure it's 1000 and not "1000 m" which would denote 1000 milli == 1? I have a custom graph in cacti to display the number of messages in the mail queue. It uses a simple shell script run from smtpd.conf I can verify the values are being returned as '1' in the cacti logs. I also see the graphed value of '1' at that time if I click on the graph to see the multi-graph page with day week and month graphs. The graph tree page where I display several cacti graphs shows a graphed value of 1000 in places of 1 if the preset is less than one day. There is some consistency to this bug. Right now I see two similar hosts which are monitored this way and the preset is for 12 hours. Both hosts show a value of 1000 at some points. If I increase the preset to 1 day, one shows 1000 and the other 1. If I increase the preset to last 2 days, both show graphed values of 1 at the points. I've seen this problem for a few years now and I don't know why it happens. Where do I start to troubleshoot this if no one has seen it before? |

Dear Ahmad, I'm no expert in Cacti, but I can provide the following info. As far as I know, Cacti has no place where you can input your MIBs. You could add those MIBs to */usr/share/snmp/mibs*, but then again when using * snmpwalk*, you would need to add a *-m* option and specify *ALL* as the argument. I read once that it's best to give Cacti numeric OIDs, rather than depend on MIBs, and thus I would suggest that you run the following from the querying box: snmpwalk -v version -c community *machine_addr* -On *MIB-name* This will print the output in numeric OID format. You can take what OIDs you need, and graph them on Cacti easily. BTW, this is what I did in some cases and it works just brilliantly. Let me know if that helps or if you need any further help. Hi, I tried using the ugroup plugin (http://docs.cacti.net/plugin:ugroup). But somehow it does not work with LDAP based users. I did not find anything in the forums in this regards. Does anyone know if this is supported? Best Regards, Markus |

Hello. We have one central cacti instance and using spine for polling. Cacti can make SNMP queries across the entire network (Network 'A' I'll call it). Everything works great in that sense. We have added a new network environment (Network "B"). As of right now, the only way B and A can see each other is by a single box in B using a VPN tunnel to access A. If we could get a full site-to-site VPN, we would but that is not possible. That single box in B that can see A, I was wondering if it were possible to install cacti on it, set its SQL database to the one living on A's cacti instance, and poll everything in network B so graphs from both instances are in one, central location. Would the poller from A attempt to poll the network in B? Is there a way to tell spine to send requests to only certain hosts? Or is there a better/alternate method to distribute cacti across multiple environments and have one central location for all the graphs? Thank you. Chris |
