Hi to all, Do you have some information about threshold configuration ? For example, I would like to send e-mail, modify color on my graph when my router indicate no ip traffic or no session? Thank you for helping Wulfran |

Thanks for the reply Jeremy, Is this a system-wide setting somewhere? I'm having trouble finding it - I've searched through all the cacti sub-directories to no avail. Could it just be using the default association for .pl files in windows? I'm in the process of switching from MRTG to Cacti and I've got a couple
of questions.
1.
In MRTG, there is a MaxBytes parameter, the primary affect of
which is to place a red dashed horizontal line on the point of the
y-axis that represents that max. It's not a necessity, but for
those already accustomed to seeing it, it's a help. How do I
accomplish the same in Cacti (or can I)?
2.
I like the ability to create a GUEST user, but I have yet to
figure out what check box to check or uncheck in the User
Management page for that user to disable the little wrench icon
and so disable guest users both from mucking with and seeing any
configuration data -- leaving it as it is will only cause
confusion and phone calls to our help desk.
Thanks.

To get rid of the popup windows, find instances where it refrences 'perl.exe' and change it to 'wperl'=20 Jeremy D. hi,
recently i want to shifted our mrtg to cacti. adsl and
wilan radio i can successfully shifted to cacti, but
failed to trango radio.
i have created a xml file for atlas trango, which is-
<interface>
<name>Get Trango Atlas Statistics</name>
<oid_index>.1.3.6.1.4.1.5454.1.40.1.9.1</oid_index>
<fields>

</atlastrafficEthInOctets>
</atlastrafficEthOutOctets>
</fields>
</interface>
the OID is taking from atlas mib file which we got
from their site and also this oid is working in my
MRTG server.
i have added this xml in Data Queries. When i want add
"Associated Graph" i got this warning-
Data Source: traffic_in

object in /usr/share/cacti/site/data_queries.php on
line 356
Data Source: traffic_out
Warning: Variable passed to each() is not an array or
object in /usr/share/cacti/site/data_queries.php on
line 356
although when i checked traffic_in and traffic_out and
click on Save Button got the following error-
Notice: Undefined index: dsdt_41_54_snmp_field_output

I suppose I can try building a newer version. That would definitely be sensible. I believe that there's been a fair bit of work done on 64-bit support since the 5.0.x line (and 5.0.9 is over two years old) So it's quite possible that problem has already been fixed. The latest stable version is 5.2.2.rc2 (which will be released as the full 5.2.2 very shortly). If that code still suffers from the same problem, then it would be useful to known ASAP (ideally with a patch to fix it :-)). We're gearing up to release the next new version (5.3) soon after 5.2.2, so there's a limited window for getting last-minute patches in before then. Dave |

The numbers I posted before were real, and still doing the same
thing:
ifconfig says: TX bytes:34697827021 (33090.4 Mb) (changed)
snmpwalk says: IF-MIB::ifOutOctets.3 = Counter32: 0 (still zero)
This is on Centos3.x (should match RHEL3 with updates) in package
net-snmp-5.0.9-2.30E.19. I suppose I can try building a newer version.

The Counter32 value will report the bottom 32-bits
(with the higher bits simply being discarded).
Remember that in the SNMP world, an individual Counter-based value
has no meaning. Counter32 (and Counter64) object are used to
monitor the *difference* between two successive readings.
So:
ifconfig eth1 ; sleep 60 ; ifconfig eth1
might report
eth1 TX bytes:33033390619 (31503.0 Mb)
eth1 TX bytes:33033391619 (31503.0 Mb)
while
snmpget eth0 ; sleep 60 ; snmpget eth0
might report
ifOutOctets.1 = 149182455
ifOutOctets.1 = 149183455
The raw numbers are different, but the delta:
33033391619 - 33033390619 = 1000
149183455 - 149182455 = 1000
is the same. That's how SNMP Counters work.

Cacti (usually) just uses net-snmp's agent to get the data, so the issue is probably "garbage in, garbage out". I had seen problems a few months ago (and posted here) where a 64-bit net-snmp agent will return a greater-than-Counter32 value for a Counter32 value, which causes funny results on the net-snmp 32-bit client side, especially when a snmpwalk is being done. Interestingly enough, if the client was also 64-bit, then it would "properly" report the bad value as it was transmitted. I don't see this problem anymore with recent versions of net-snmp. If you want more information on what cacti sees, you can turn its log level up to "medium", which will cause it to show the exact results in the log. Further questions on this should probably go to a cacti forum. ============================ Darren Gamble Planner, Regional Services Shaw Cablesystems GP 630 - 3rd Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta, Canada T2P 4L4 (403) 781-4948 |

Mostly unrelated question: do you happen to know who to
complain to about Linux x86_64 interface traffic stats
from net-snmp being incorrect as reported by cacti?
The target is Centos3.x (should be the same as RHEL3) with
cacti running on a 32-bit Centos4 box. After a reboot the
values are correct for a while, then go crazy, showing
100 Meg traffic (the interface limit) most of the time.

Especially the README.txt. At the risk of being a total pain, can I make a couple of comments. This README talks about problems with large values (due to a "missing feature"), and later says: "The file sizes and baculaClientRetention{Job,File} etc is in KILO bytes, not BYTES as the SQL data is in. This is because I can't use a Counter64 .... As it is now, the value is a Counter32 which is ok." If these MIB objects are meant to report "single" values (such as the size of a file), then you probably don't want to use Counter32. A counter (whether 32-bit or 64-bit) is concerned with the *difference* between two readings. A single counter value is meaningless. I'd suggest you replace these with Gauge32 or Integer32 syntax objects instead, (preferably before you release the MIB publicly! :-)), depending on whether you need unsigned or signed 32-bit values. I'm not sure whether the same applies to the ClientRetention objects or not - I didn't find the relevant DESCRIPTIONs particularly meaningful :-) It's also not true that Counter64 is the only way to report large file sizes. There are at least two techniques that could be used to address the 64-bit limitations. One way (as I think I mentioned on the net-snmp list), would be to report the file size using two separate 32-bit objects - one for the lower 32-bits of the value, and one for the higher. Another technique would again be to use two objects - one reporting the size of the file in "blocks", and the other reporting the size of an individual block. That allows you to handle larger file sizes (at the cost of a coarser granularity). See HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrStorageTable for an example of this approach. I must also correct a misunderstanding over the future of 64-bit handling in Net-SNMP pass-through support. It is true that this mechanism currently only supports 32-bit values (due in part to the historical background you refer to). But it is inappropriate to say that: "Counter64 isn't (and will not) be implemented in net-snmp" Firstly, net-snmp *does* support the Counter64 syntax - it's just the pass-through mechanism where this is currently missing. Secondly, I'm fairly sure that at some point, we *will* extend this mechanism to cope with the SNMPv2 additions. It's been on my ToDo list for a while now. My words of caution were just meant to indicate that this was unlikely to happen in the immediate future - not that we were refusing to fix it. Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. I'll do a proper hatchet job on your MIB when I have a bit more time :-) Dave |

[Sorry for the cross-post people!] For the last two weeks, I've been trying to interface the Bacula SQL database with SNMP. The script is now in such a state that it's actually RELEASABLE and USABLE but not quite done regarding the Cacti integration - still need to finish the SNMP Query XML file... Have a look at http://www.bayour.com/bacula-snmp/ for more information, files. Especially the README.txt. Thanx MUST go to Dave Shield on the net-snmp-users list. I've just noticed in the source for rrd.php that this is normal:
/* FOR WIN32: Escape all colon for drive letters (ex. D\:/path/to/rra)
*/
$data_source_path =3D str_replace(":", "\:",
$data_source_path);=20
So I'm guessing that's not the problem.
I get 4 command windows pop up and the disappear again quickly
afterwards every 5 minutes.
They just have one line in saying something like:
cannot find module (NONE) at line 0 (none)
It goes too fast to catch all of it.
Any idea if this is problem (and what it means?)
Thanks,
Chris

I guess this could be because of some wrong rrdtool commandlines, for example, the following: c:/cacti/rrdtool/rrdtool.exe graph - \ --imgformat=3DPNG \ --start=3D1129735804 \ --end=3D1129822204 \ --title=3D"Gateway - Traffic - S112/1" \ --rigid \ --base=3D1000 \ --height=3D120 \ --width=3D500 \ --alt-autoscale-max \ --lower-limit=3D0 \ COMMENT:"From 2005-10-19 16\:30\:04 To 2005-10-20 16\:30\:04\c" \ COMMENT:" \n" \ --vertical-label=3D"bits per second" \ --slope-mode \ DEF:a=3D"C\:/cacti/cacti/rra/gateway_traffic_in_8.rrd":traffic_in:AVERAGE= \ DEF:b=3D"C\:/cacti/cacti/rra/gateway_traffic_in_8.rrd":traffic_out:AVERAG= E \ CDEF:cdefa=3Da,8,* \ CDEF:cdefe=3Db,8,* \ AREA:cdefa#00CF00:"Inbound" \ GPRINT:cdefa:LAST:" Current\:%8.2lf %s" \ GPRINT:cdefa:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf %s" \ GPRINT:cdefa:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf %s\n" \ LINE1:cdefe#002A97:"Outbound" \ GPRINT:cdefe:LAST:"Current\:%8.2lf %s" \ GPRINT:cdefe:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf %s" \ GPRINT:cdefe:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf %s"=20 the DEF: lines look wrong. Firstly, is this true? Secondly, where do I change the paths so they are correct? Thanks! chris |
