I found the problem with this in the end - hadn't read the bit that said
you must now specify the full interpreter path in the command, so
changing the definition from "perl ...." to "/usr/bin/perl ...." fixed
it for me.

               Logarithmic y-axis scaling.

               [-X=E2=94=82--units-exponent value]

               This sets the 10**exponent scaling of the y-axis values.
Normally, values will be scaled to the appropriate
               units (k, M, etc.).  However, you may wish to display
units always in k (Kilo, 10e3) even if the data is in
               the M (Mega, 10e6) range, for instance. Value should be
an integer which is a multiple of 3 between -18 and
               18 inclusively.  It is the exponent on the units you wish
to use. For example, use 3 to display the y-axis
               values in k (Kilo, 10e3, thousands), use -6 to display
the y-axis values in u (Micro, 10e-6, millionths).
               Use a value of 0 to prevent any scaling of the y-axis valu=
es.

               This option is very effective at confusing the heck out
of the default rrdtool autoscaler and grid painter.
               If rrdtool detects that it is not successful in labeling
the graph under the given circumstances, it will
               switch to the more robust --alt-y-grid mode.

               [-L=E2=94=82--units-length value]

               How many digits should rrdtool assume the y-axis labels
to be? You may have to use this option to make
               enough space once you start fideling with the y-axis
labeling.

About how many spam posting are you getting (per day, week, etc..), and
what do you consider tolerable? In my spam folder I could only find 6
messages in the past week that came from this mailing list which imho
isn't that bad. Thunderbird's junk mail controls seem to be doing a
pretty good job, I can't remember the last time I actually saw a spam
posting  in the folder this mailing list gets filter into.

How is it decided on how frequently a label is going to be on the "Y" 
scale?  I am using cacti to graph network traffic and on an interface 
that is graphing an average of 5 MB/s I see a label at every MB which 
means that there is 5 labels on the Y axis.  However on an interface 
that is only averaging 1.5 MB/s I only see two labels on the "Y" axis, 
one at .5 MB/s and one at 1 MB/s.  I would like to increase the number 
of labels to every .2 MB/s without effecting the rest of the graphs.  Is 
that possible?

I'm trying to get data from a script into Cacti, and I'm not having much
luck. I've written a script to pull the data out, added a Data Input
Method, Data Template, Graph Template, and finally a device with the
appropriate graph. Non data is coming through, and the cacti log says:-

I don't want to do it for all of the graphs though, just the disk used 
space ones, and only for the Overview tree.  Is this possible?

I can add users from the user administration page but they
are not listed in this page afterwards. (they can still log in).

I'm using mysql 4.0.24 and  cacti 0.8.6h

the default stream open was left to GLIBC to decide.  Unfortunately, they
change from "blocking" to "non-blocking" between GLIBC versions.  Therefore,
you get the message below.  Please try the SVN version and see if you get
joy.  You would download "BRANCH_0_8_6" and not Trunk.  I would like to see
your feedback as I am considering this version just about ready to go.

network. Now it takes about 7 seconds, and I'm seeing these errors, more
POPEN errors if I try to run the cmd php poller from the command line. I'm
starting to get a bunch of gaps in my graphs as well.

So I am beginning to feel like I am going around the mental bend.

The third example is a damaged graph.  You will note that there are no DEF lines.  If you edit this graph, you will find no associations for traffic in and out.  If this is widespread, it would indicate that you were toying with the Graph Templates.  Is that the case?  Depending on how significant the issue is, you can either fix the Graph by re-associating the Data Sources with the Graphs, or if the issue is wide spread, it might be better to use a few database commands.  In any event, the data is still being collected.

Your second example is likely just a Data Source that is not returning data.

I'm not sure what the file permissions should be but when I moved the
directory I assumed that all file permissions would remain intact...
