Labels are placed every label factor lines. You can specify "-y none" to suppress the grid and labels altogether. The default for this option is to automati- cally select sensible values. [-Y=E2=94=82--alt-y-grid] Place the Y grid dynamically based on the graph=E2=80=99s = Y range. The algorithm ensures that you always have a grid, that there are enough but not too many grid lines, and that the grid is metric. That is the grid lines are placed every 1, 2, 5 or 10 units. This parameter will also ensure that you get enough decimals displayed even if your graph goes from 69.998 to 70.001. (contributed by Sasha Mikheev). [-o=E2=94=82--logarithmic] Logarithmic y-axis scaling. [-X=E2=94=82--units-exponent value] This sets the 10**exponent scaling of the y-axis values. Normally, values will be scaled to the appropriate units (k, M, etc.). However, you may wish to display units always in k (Kilo, 10e3) even if the data is in the M (Mega, 10e6) range, for instance. Value should be an integer which is a multiple of 3 between -18 and 18 inclusively. It is the exponent on the units you wish to use. For example, use 3 to display the y-axis values in k (Kilo, 10e3, thousands), use -6 to display the y-axis values in u (Micro, 10e-6, millionths). Use a value of 0 to prevent any scaling of the y-axis valu= es. This option is very effective at confusing the heck out of the default rrdtool autoscaler and grid painter. If rrdtool detects that it is not successful in labeling the graph under the given circumstances, it will switch to the more robust --alt-y-grid mode. [-L=E2=94=82--units-length value] How many digits should rrdtool assume the y-axis labels to be? You may have to use this option to make enough space once you start fideling with the y-axis labeling. About how many spam posting are you getting (per day, week, etc..), and what do you consider tolerable? In my spam folder I could only find 6 messages in the past week that came from this mailing list which imho isn't that bad. Thunderbird's junk mail controls seem to be doing a pretty good job, I can't remember the last time I actually saw a spam posting in the folder this mailing list gets filter into. ~Jonathan John R. How is it decided on how frequently a label is going to be on the "Y" scale? I am using cacti to graph network traffic and on an interface that is graphing an average of 5 MB/s I see a label at every MB which means that there is 5 labels on the Y axis. However on an interface that is only averaging 1.5 MB/s I only see two labels on the "Y" axis, one at .5 MB/s and one at 1 MB/s. I would like to increase the number of labels to every .2 MB/s without effecting the rest of the graphs. Is that possible? Thanks Tim |

Hi, I'm trying to get data from a script into Cacti, and I'm not having much luck. I've written a script to pull the data out, added a Data Input Method, Data Template, Graph Template, and finally a device with the appropriate graph. Non data is coming through, and the cacti log says:- 07/26/2006 11:00:04 AM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[14] ERROR: Empty result [10.0.0.250]: 'perl /usr/share/cacti/site/scripts/zxtm_netusage_total.pl public 10.0.0.250' 07/26/2006 11:00:04 AM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[14] DS[241] WARNING: Result from SCRIPT not valid. Any ideas would be much appreciated (doubly so as forums.cacti.net seems to be down). While I am a very happy user of the cacti package, I am getting more and
more frustrated by the amount of spam postings to the mailing list. Of
all the lists that I am a member of this is the only one that seems to
have this issue.
Is there anything that can be done, other then making this a
closed-access list, to combat this problem?
While I can remove the list from my whitelist, I would prefer not to do
this unless really necessary.
Thank you,
John

All, A new release of Cactid - Beta is available for download and test. I am including a binary version of Cactid for Windows made with Cygwin1.dll version 1.5.20. If you use other versions of Cygwin1.dll, you should compile from source. Please use the following link to access both Windows binaries and source code. http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?p=72860#72860 There are several changes in this version as documented below. Quote: 0.8.6i -bug: Only output as much as MySQL can handle in 1 insert -bug: Faulty Script Server shutdown was causing race condition -bug: Allow ICMP or UDP ping to work if host begins with either "TCP:" or "UDP:" -bug: Change assert logging to HIGH to more closely match cmd.php -bug: Allow Cactid to make on 64bit x86 Platforms - thanks to Reuben Farrelly -bug: Changing syntax from "insert into to replace into" for reindex inserts -bug: Don't perform a reindex a check for a data query if you already have to reindex -bug: Make sure to log FATAL to stderr -bug: Do not re-index a host if the re-index value is a "No Such Instance" result. -bug#0000682: Allow storing of each hosts polling start time -bug#0000691: Cactid fails with custom snmp port -bug#0000699: Tick counts not being detected -bug#0000706: Cactid didn't start PHP scripts when host didn't answer SNMP (but icmp is ok) -bug#0000710: cactid.conf doesn't allow for no mysql password -bug#0000716: Don't attempt to save output for a host if there is none. -bug#0000717: Allow numeric double results to start with '+', '-', '.' -bug#0000724: cactid truncate script command when reindex -bug#0000736: Solaris 8 : Alarm Clock message -bug#0000745: cactid: search path for mysql and snmp does not include /usr/pkg -bug#0000748: cactid doesn't handle special charectors -bug#0000749: Cactid 0.8.6g won't accept special characters from data template -bug#0000750: poller doesn't check for snmp if udp ping fails -bug#0000752: Problem with OID truncation with cactid -feature: add Net-SNMP Library vs. Header check prior to execution -feature: enabled signal handling in cactid I really need a Solaris 2.8 tester due to the change that I have made to support the "buggy" Solaris threading model. If you are running from *nix and need to build from source, please use the following commands so that you show the correct version information when running Cactid. Code: aclocal autoheader autoconf automake ./configure make make install Please submit user experiences to the post referenced above. Thanks, TheWitness The Cacti Group |

Understood. Once we "release" cactid .0.8.6h, we will inform the packagers and they will make a new rpm available. TheWitness _____ From: cac...@li... The third example is a damaged graph. You will note that there are no DEF lines. If you edit this graph, you will find no associations for traffic in and out. If this is widespread, it would indicate that you were toying with the Graph Templates. Is that the case? Depending on how significant the issue is, you can either fix the Graph by re-associating the Data Sources with the Graphs, or if the issue is wide spread, it might be better to use a few database commands. In any event, the data is still being collected. Your second example is likely just a Data Source that is not returning data. Hi Reinhard, I'm not sure what the file permissions should be but when I moved the directory I assumed that all file permissions would remain intact... # mkdir /var/www/vhosts # cd /var/www/html # mv cacti ../vhosts Here's the debug output from one of the graphs: RRDTool Command: /usr/local/rrdtool-1.2.13/bin/rrdtool graph - \ --imgformat=PNG \ --start=-86400 \ --end=-300 \ --title="gaea - Used Space - |query_hrStorageDescr|" \ --rigid \ --base=1024 \ --height=120 \ --width=500 \ --alt-autoscale-max \ --lower-limit=0 \ --vertical-label="bytes" \ --slope-mode \ DEF:a="/var/www/vhosts/cacti/rra/gaea_hdd_total_43.rrd":hdd_total:AVERAGE \ DEF:b="/var/www/vhosts/cacti/rra/gaea_hdd_total_43.rrd":hdd_used:AVERAGE \ AREA:a#002A97:"Total" \ GPRINT:a:LAST:"Current\:%8.2lf %s" \ GPRINT:a:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf %s" \ GPRINT:a:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf %s\n" \ AREA:b#F51D30:"Used" \ GPRINT:b:LAST:" Current\:%8.2lf %s" \ GPRINT:b:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf %s" \ GPRINT:b:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf %s\n" RRDTool Says: OK Note the value of the title is: gaea - Used Space - |query_hrStorageDescr| which to me looks a bit odd - like a mysql query is failing?
