would help to know where you monitor, on the switch, on the hosts, my guess
is on the switch, so maybe this helps :

try a snmpwalk on the switch, usually i debug this kind of problem like
that.

Hi All,

I'm really confused on how to set cacti to show graphics for a gigabit Lan.
Already set it for 64 counters, change from bits to bytes and configurated
snmp to 2v.

Testing it through local machines with gigabit interfaces plugged into ports
on a 3Com 5500 (Gigabit Switch)


Does anyone can give me a clue?

Plus, we don't distribute both Spine and Cacti as one package.  Come to 
think of it, others do all the packaging :), and yes, it works fine on 
Windows these days, depending on Cygwin, which at times has issues but 
has generally been stable for some time now (years).

Normally, I'd let TheWitness or BSOD2600 chime in on this, but IMNSHO,
spine on Windows is still an evil hack, and not 'native'.

With Linux, it's stable, and the preferred method.

just fine - but it's really not that hard to install and enable spine.

I suppose this has already been brought up before but I haven't been
able to quickly find it in the gmane archives of this list. I've
enabled it and it seems to "just work" using debs:

  # aptitude show cacti-spine cacti | grep Version
  Version: 0.8.7a-2.3
  Version: 0.8.7b-2.1

Got that. I just don't mind having mine set at DEBUG all the time now, it's
nice if I need to go back and look at something, disk space is cheap and it

Right. I read that earlier. I do output U now. Maybe I still have the old
poller and I should upgrade but I haven't noticed problems with that. I'll
go get it from svn anyway.
But problem doesn't seem with polling, it's a graph display problem for
which I get no log errors. I just get an empty page and switching to another
graph and back fixes it every time.

(BTW, I don't use spine, I only have 2 graph trees, 26 data sources, and
35 graphs or so).

Eheh, I know what you mean :) 
I can tell you stories how windows/386 (that was before window 3) had code
to detect the superior drdos and crash.
Or we can talk about the days when we had lots of much better microcomputers
that were superior to PCs in many ways, or even the Acorn with a RISC
architecture and awesome OS for the time, before anyone even had heard of RISC :)

I have had to install Cacti on a new server due to hardware failure.  I
used the Windows installer and all seemed to install fine.  I am using
THold and Monitor to check on host and router outages.  However I am not
getting email notifications like I think I should.  

Under settings Alerting/Thold I have the box checked for Dead Host
notifications, a valid email address and send alerts as text.  

When I go to Settings/Mail-DNS tab I can send a test email just fine so
email is working but the notifications are not being sent.  It was
working before the reinstall.

Thoughts?

There is no such feature, currently.
You may want to have a look at the reportit plugin; that comes close.

and just in case my data samples were somehow bad (and I checked the source,
they're not), the same thing happened at the same time on another data
source at the same exact times:

There is just no way it's a concidence.
Also I noticed that what shows up is a data sample with twice the value it
should have and then the next sample is pretty much 0.

I'm just trying to understand what could make these data problems possible.
My original data on disk (before it was fed to the rrd) is correct.
Even if there was a time delay in when the data was given, rrdtool knows how to interpolate
data to make things right, so I don't get it.

Any ideas?

In Spine 0.8.7e, the warning messages about non-existant graphs was moved to medium log level. Please turn on logging to MEDIUM for one poller pass.

For what it's worth, I've been seeing this on and off with 0.8.7e
too.
Switching sources in tree view fixes it.

The graphs that are intermittently not showing data are on the tree. The rrd files have data but when you bring it up on the browser, sometimes graphs are not showing data. Is this a bug with cacti? Is there a fix for this?

The problem is that any included page like this one

has the CSV download icon even though I have disabled that for the guest
user

I did go to 
http://server/cacti/user_admin.php?action=user_edit&id=3
and the only checkbox is 'view graphs'.
Export Data is explicitely not selected.

Should I be disabling data download somewhere else?
(BTW, it's not for security reasons, but because the file is over 1GB and I
just don't want it randomly downloaded)
