would help to know where you monitor, on the switch, on the hosts, my guess is on the switch, so maybe this helps : try a snmpwalk on the switch, usually i debug this kind of problem like that. Hi All, I'm really confused on how to set cacti to show graphics for a gigabit Lan. Already set it for 64 counters, change from bits to bytes and configurated snmp to 2v. Testing it through local machines with gigabit interfaces plugged into ports on a 3Com 5500 (Gigabit Switch) Does anyone can give me a clue? Thanks in advance. Eduardo Barreto |

i'm using cacti on debian lenny and I'm wondering - why not have spine be the default poller? Yes I'm just starting out and poller.php works just fine - but it's really not that hard to install and enable spine. I suppose this has already been brought up before but I haven't been able to quickly find it in the gmane archives of this list. I've enabled it and it seems to "just work" using debs: # aptitude show cacti-spine cacti | grep Version Version: 0.8.7a-2.3 Version: 0.8.7b-2.1 |

In doing so, you set logging to MEDIUM until you are confident that it is operating well. Got that. I just don't mind having mine set at DEBUG all the time now, it's nice if I need to go back and look at something, disk space is cheap and it rotates anyway. > With regards to Unknown "U" or "Nan" data, you should checkout the latest SVN in the cacti/branches/0.8.7/lib/poller.php. I have made a modification here to handle unknown data better. However, your script must still output a "U" in the name value pair operation to avoid errors. Right. I read that earlier. I do output U now. Maybe I still have the old poller and I should upgrade but I haven't noticed problems with that. I'll go get it from svn anyway. But problem doesn't seem with polling, it's a graph display problem for which I get no log errors. I just get an empty page and switching to another graph and back fixes it every time. (BTW, I don't use spine, I only have 2 graph trees, 26 data sources, and 35 graphs or so). > By the way, absolutely love the comparison of MS to MickeyD's. Eheh, I know what you mean :) I can tell you stories how windows/386 (that was before window 3) had code to detect the superior drdos and crash. Or we can talk about the days when we had lots of much better microcomputers that were superior to PCs in many ways, or even the Acorn with a RISC architecture and awesome OS for the time, before anyone even had heard of RISC :) Cheers, Marc > Regards, > > Larry Adams > aka TheWitness > http://www.cacti.net > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Marc MERLIN" <mar...@me...> > To: lar...@co..., "Hasan Ceylan" <Has...@do...> > Cc: "Support requests/questions about cacti" <cac...@li...> > Sent: Saturday, November 21, 2009 12:58:26 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern > Subject: Re: [cacti-user] cacti is intermittently not displaying the grapsh > > On Fri, Nov 13, 2009 at 12:37:43PM +0000, lar...@co... wrote: > > In Spine 0.8.7e, the warning messages about non-existant graphs was moved to medium log level. Marc, The idea is that, during template development, you simply need to verify that your script is operable. In doing so, you set logging to MEDIUM until you are confident that it is operating well. With regards to Unknown "U" or "Nan" data, you should checkout the latest SVN in the cacti/branches/0.8.7/lib/poller.php. I have made a modification here to handle unknown data better. However, your script must still output a "U" in the name value pair operation to avoid errors. By the way, absolutely love the comparison of MS to MickeyD's. Somehow, MS is always trying to guild the Lilly. Instead of embracing something like Perl (in a standards way), they keep trying to re-invent the wheel. Thier latest crack at this is PowerShell. If they would only change the backslash to a forward slash, adopt SSH, and fully support the POSIX model, life for me would be so much easier. Somehow after NT 3.1, things went wrong, and yes, I've been around for a long time. I have had to install Cacti on a new server due to hardware failure. I used the Windows installer and all seemed to install fine. I am using THold and Monitor to check on host and router outages. However I am not getting email notifications like I think I should. Under settings Alerting/Thold I have the box checked for Dead Host notifications, a valid email address and send alerts as text. When I go to Settings/Mail-DNS tab I can send a test email just fine so email is working but the notifications are not being sent. It was working before the reinstall. Thoughts? Bill Burnett |

There is no such feature, currently. You may want to have a look at the reportit plugin; that comes close. Am 18.11.2009 00:50, Tu Nguyen wrote: > Hi All: > Anyone knows how to get cacti to display top ten graphs sorted by utilization? > thanks in advance. > > -- > Tu > ng...@uc... > |

http://gargamel.merlins.org/cacti/graph.php?action=properties&local_graph_id=39&rra_id=0&view_type=tree&graph_start=1258302354&graph_end=1258315217 and just in case my data samples were somehow bad (and I checked the source, they're not), the same thing happened at the same time on another data source at the same exact times: http://gargamel.merlins.org/cacti/graph.php?action=properties&local_graph_id=40&rra_id=0&view_type=tree&graph_start=1258302354&graph_end=1258315217 There is just no way it's a concidence. Also I noticed that what shows up is a data sample with twice the value it should have and then the next sample is pretty much 0. The graph definitions are in the links and the rrd was created like so: /usr/bin/rrdtool create /var/lib/cacti/rra/housepower_21.rrd --step 120 \ DS:HouseNoAC:DERIVE:600:-1000000000:1000000000 DS:House:DERIVE:600:-1000000000:1000000000 \ DS:PGE:DERIVE:600:-1000000000:1000000000 DS:AC:DERIVE:600:-1000000000:1000000000 \ DS:PV:DERIVE:600:-1000000000:1000000000 \ RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1:2628000 RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1440:10950 RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:5:3153600 \ RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:30:525600 RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:120:131400 \ RRA:MAX:0.5:1440:10950 RRA:MAX:0.5:30:525600 RRA:MAX:0.5:120:131400 \ I'm just trying to understand what could make these data problems possible. My original data on disk (before it was fed to the rrd) is correct. Even if there was a time delay in when the data was given, rrdtool knows how to interpolate data to make things right, so I don't get it. Any ideas? For what it's worth, I've been seeing this on and off with 0.8.7e
too.
Switching sources in tree view fixes it.

I am experiencing a strange problem. When I try to load some cacti graphs, sometimes I see the graphs with data and some times the same graph does not have any data. What is causing this? Thanks, hasan |

I've included some cacti graph in some iframes in a page like this: http://marc.merlins.org/perso/solar/2009-11.html#Brand-One-Powermeter_-Solar-and-Power-Monitoring-with-Cacti-and-Real-Time-PG_E-Time-of-Use-price-calculation The problem is that any included page like this one http://gargamel.merlins.org/cacti/graph_view.php?action=tree&tree_id=4 has the CSV download icon even though I have disabled that for the guest user I did go to http://server/cacti/user_admin.php?action=user_edit&id=3 and the only checkbox is 'view graphs'. Export Data is explicitely not selected. Should I be disabling data download somewhere else? (BTW, it's not for security reasons, but because the file is over 1GB and I just don't want it randomly downloaded) Thanks, Marc -- "A mouse is a device used to point at the xterm you want to type in" - A.S.R. Subject: [cacti-user] Problems Setting Thresholds for Graphs with no devices. I am having problems setting up a cacti box with thresholds for graphs that do not have devices attached to them. I can not locate how to attach the threshold templates to the data sources for the graphs. I am also receiving a message that says the "poller has never ran". I have looked on the forum but have not found what script needs to be added to the crontab. If you can help push me to the correct location to get the information I need I would appreciate it.
