I have a pentium4 2.7 Ghz system with 1 Gig of RAM
running the latest Cacti version on Red Hat ES for
over 5 months now.
Lately I have noticed that my CPU states for iowait
reached as high as 97%? I have been using top to
monitor my system and I noticed that it seems like
everytimes mysqld is running, my iowait starts to jump
significantly.
Is this a normal instance? Can I do anything to
improve my iowait time? I have tune my logging to low
on cacti and disable logging messages on my system.
Here is what I was looking at using the top command

Is there a way to add all ports at once when you add a switch? For example, if you add a device/switch(specifically Nortel BPS) as Generic SNMP enabled host - the associated Data query has (in this case) 800 items - but at a min we will add one graph per port -to do this under graphs you have to add each interface where a graph was created - this takes awhile :) Any thoughts appreciated ... John, With regard to this issue, there is a single revised file in CVS. Goto www.cacti.net, browse cvs and select "BRANCH_0_8_6". The file in question has been updated. I am trying to show the ifDescr of the ports on a switch for each of the graphs on Cacti. My switch have a specific description for each ports. I looked at the data template and graph template for snmp interface traffic and they appear to be polling for ifDescr. However, the graphs appear to only show the ifName of the ports. Is there a specific reason for this or there's something I need to alter in Cacti to show the description of the port? Thanks, Daniel __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hello, all - I don'tknow if this is possible, but here goes... I'd like to move graphs from a host, which is a branch of a tree, to another graph tree. I've managed to do so, however, I do not want the graphs to appear on the host anymore - I just want them to appear on a seperate tree. Is this possible? Thanks! -dant |

Hi all, I've been pulling my hair out for half the day trying to work out what has broken. I upgraded from 0.8.6b to 0.8.6c as per the instructions on cacti.net. I can run php cmd.php fine, it checks every hosts etc. Whenever I try and run php poller.php I get: # php poller.php 12/26/2004 07:18:58 PM - POLLER: Poller[0] DEBUG: About to Spawn a Remote Process [CMD: /usr/bin/php, ARGS: -q /usr/local/apache/htdocs/cacti/cmd.php 0 60] Waiting on 1/1 pollers. Waiting on 1/1 pollers. Waiting on 1/1 pollers. Waiting on 1/1 pollers. I tried using cactid but had the same error. I'm using: Slackware 10.0 net-snmp 5.2 cacti 0.8.6c This is causing a few problems, so if anyone can reply with urgency I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Chris |

Hi I'm a new cacti user and I have a problem, when a device is created, say a linux box with snmpd + snmptrapd (generic snmp-enabled host). I proceed to create an associated data query and a (traffic interface) and a associated graph template, 'Not Being Graphed' appears, then no graphs. Sometimes when 'Is Bein Graphed' appears I get the a 'file not found rrdtool error additional info=20 SNMP Information System: 00:LINUX:MACHINE:2.6.9-GENTOO-R9:#1:THU:DEC:16:20:54:39:VET:2004:I6= 86 Uptime: 1113085 Hostname: machine ERROR: opening /home/www/html/cacti/rra/machine_net_traffic_in_16.rrd': No such file or directory please help. thanx --=20 [Jorge J. Hey, all - I saw a thread a long time ago, and I thought that I had it bookmarked, but I guess not. It was about how someone made a data source template to graph Counter-Strike game server statistics. I have searched the forums to no end, but have been unable to find this thread. Does anyone have it bookmarked, by chance? If you have been using said template, how does it work? I remember getting it to work ages ago, but it has been a long time since I've played with it. Thanks, and Happy Holidays -Dan Trainor |

Jeff, I do not usually respond outside of the Cacti.net Message Board. Currently, cactid 0.8.6x does not support non-host based scripts. You must assign the script to a host. We are supporting that feature with cmd.php. If you require additional performance gains, then it is important to increase concurrent processes for now. I have contimplated adding this back into cactid, but discussed it with the author and it was not considered a high priority. Your comments are, of course, welcome. Regards, Larry Adams TheWitness |

I know this is an old old old thread, but I've been not really had time to debug. I finally have a few moments, so, here we go. I'm still having the problem (cmd.php works fine, cactid skips things). And, while investigating the actual problem, I've found another one. cmd.php, again, works fine. cactid barfs on one of my checks with a "ERROR: Not enough arguments" (failing to compile the --template arg, apparently). Weird. here's my "duelling outputs": cmd.php: ------------------- [~]$ /usr/local/bin/php /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/cacti/poller.php 12/14/2004 10:09:24 AM - POLLER: Poller[0] DEBUG: About to Spawn a Remote Process [CMD: /usr/local/bin/php, ARGS: -q /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/cacti-0.8.6b-boinger/cmd.php 0 0] 12/14/2004 10:09:24 AM - POLLER: Poller[0] DEBUG: About to Spawn a Remote Process [CMD: /usr/local/bin/php, ARGS: -q /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/cacti-0.8.6b-boinger/cmd.php 1 1] Waiting on 2/2 pollers. You may want to use a CDEF for that purpose. Use a CDEF that multiplies your value by -1. I believe that there is already a CDEF named "INVERSE" that does multiply your value by -1. Actually the name "INVERSE" is not quite correct, an INVERSE is 1/x and not x*-1. --Miguel > -----Original Message----- > From: cac...@li... I'd like to be able to create CDEF:s with the maximum and minimum value of all data sources. Included is a patch which does just that. It extends the current functionality which sums up all data sources. Also included is the function to count the number of data sources. This can be used to get an average. Rgds Pierre PS. The summation with duplicates seems to be missing from the code. |

Here's a graph I'm generating for wifi signal strength at http://209.218.71.29/rf.png from Cacti, and what I want is for the red area to START at -100 and fill in up to the lower negative amount that the value is (My min value is -100 and max is 100). For instance, if the noise (red) level is -95, then I want the red area to fill itself in from -100 to -95, not from (presumably) 0 to -95 which is what it looks like. Anyone have any ideas? You may want to check if your ../cacti/log/rrd.log is not over 2Gb in = size, which is a limitation in some filesystems.=20 Lack of write permissions may also cause that effect. Hope it helps. I had a stop similar to that and I found out it was the logfile size.=20 --HangaS > -----Original Message----- > From: cac...@li...
