There's no limitation from cacti point of view. The OS used implies a maximum command line length that usually is > 2 k and should not be an issue. But you may follow http://docs.cacti.net to find the debugging section under "maintenance". This may help narrowing the problem down Reinhard On 27.01.2011 14:15, Jiffin George K wrote: > Hi, > > > > I have created a graph with 34 fields, and it is not polling data from > the agent. Is there anybody else out there that has had issues/success using Cacti with snmpv3 that might be able to point me in the right direction? (regrading my original message included below) Thanks -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Manuel [mailto:km...@un...] Sent: January-19-11 3:57 PM To: 'Support requests/questions about cacti' Subject: [cacti-user] snmp v3 problem Hi, I am experiencing an issue in Cacti after moving to SNMPV3. All of my SNMPV2 devices are working fine, but the switches that are using SNMPV3 are having issues. All of my existing switch interface data is still being graphed after moving to SNMPV3, but I cannot add new graphs because no interfaces show up when I try to create a new graph. Also, I get an "SNMP Error" message for the device under "SNMP Information" in the Devices tab, which would typically show something like this: SNMP Information System: Ethernet Routing Switch 5510-24T HW:02 FW:5.0.0.3 SW:v5.0.5.021 BN:00 (c) Nortel Networks Uptime: 2569800436 (297 days, 13 hours, 13 minutes) Hostname: Misc DMZ Location: HD-10 Contact: ... So it seems that snmpv3 is working for some queries, but not all (since previously existing graphs are continuing to graph). When I choose verbose query: "1) SNMP - Interface Statistics (Verbose Query)", I get: Data Query Debug Information + Running data query [1]. + Found type = '3' [snmp query]. + Found data query XML file at '/var/www/html/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/interface.xml' + XML file parsed ok. + Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.1' + No SNMP data returned Also, if it is useful, the Technical Support link shows the following: Technical Support General Information Date Wed, 19 Jan 2011 15:35:07 -0400 Cacti Version 0.8.7a Cacti OS unix SNMP Version net-snmp RRDTool Version ERROR: Installed RRDTool version does not match configured version. This suggested memory value is calculated based on the number of data source present and is only to be used as a suggestion, actual values may vary system to system based on requirements. On the switches, and set in Cacti, we are using: SNMP Auth Protocol (v3)= SHA SNMP Privacy Protocol (v3)= AES SNMP Context = none (blank) It must be something with my Cacti setup because I am able to perform snmpget and snmpwalk to the switches in question. Please let me know if you require any additional info to be of assistance. Jake,
A suggestion.
I had a similar problem with rrdtool. In my case I was have long IO waits in
the rrdtool processes caused a a large number (> 10000) of rrd database
files being opened simultaneously.
You can confirm this by doing a 'truss' (man truss for details) on a long
running rrdtool process to see if there are excessive waits on file handles.
The ultimate solution for me was to move to a system with a more robust
hardware RAID controller.
Sincerely,
ray

I guess I solved my own problem here...and feel bad for not seeing it
sooner.
For others that hit this wall...it's more than likely a setting within
your web server.
Having ruled out hardware as an issue, I decided to put my graphs into
debug mode, getting the "rrdtool graph" command, and then ran it manually.
Was quick as root, was quick as 'www'.
So I started playing around with Apache. Somehow, despite the fact that
this particular webserver serves a handful of sites and their load without
issue, my hammering Cacti for 10 graphs at a time caused Apache to choke.
It was imperceptible using 'top', or even viewing the other websites on
the machine.
I modified my Apache config to double these values:
StartServers 10
MinSpareServers 10
MaxSpareServers 20
MaxClients 250
MaxRequestsPerChild 0
Since the other sites on the machine were responding quickly, and because
the Cacti interface and it's static graphics were displaying instantly,
it seemed as though there were no way it could've been Apache...but 'twas.

Hi, I am experiencing an issue in Cacti after moving to SNMPV3. Thanks in advance, Kevin |

Hi everyone! I'm having problems to enable the thold plugin in Cacti. I download 0.4.3 version (Cacti Version: 0.8.7g, Plugin Architecture Version: 2.8), moved the extracted folder to plugins folder, added the plugin line on include/config,php and imported the thold.sql, However I can't see the plugin even in realm permissions or in plugin management. I verified the folder and mysql database permissions, executed the setup.php and nothing works. Looking into cacti.log and php error log files I didn't find any errors mentioning the plugin. I first tried to install it without settings plugin. Than I figured out it was a prerequisite. This can be a problem? I installed the monitor plugin later without any issues. It's working now. I would appreciate any help. João K. |

I'd first check, whether both rrd files are using same layout (rrdtool info helps here). If the data templates has been changed, please notice, that the changes are NOT propagated to existing rrd files. Therefor, it may change things to delete the rrd files and let cacti recreate them on the next poller run. Such a change will affect items to be polled as well (the [map...] log entries). So the next step would be to drop the template from the device, re-associate it and re-create the graphs (which in turn recreated the data sources and recreates the entries to be polled) R. Read and (mostly) comprehended before I got here. But my issue seems to be different, because the same script is being used to gather data from two SANs, and the data are all returning correctly in one instance, and 13 of 14 are returning correctly in the other. Therefore, it's not permissions, or a problem with the script, or an access problem to the SAN, etc. It's not a rrd ownership issue, because it never gets that far. The only thing that I noticed is that on the data sources screen, the ones that are all working have this on the 'Custom Data' line: IP Address (From Host: 172.24.25.133) 172.24.25.133 While the one that isn't working just has this: IP Address (From Host: 172.24.25.133) But as far as I know, there's nowhere I can change that. I've got 'hostname' specified in the Special Type Field of the Input; I've got 14 outputs, and only this one doesn't seem to be dragging the IP along. I just deleted and re-created that output, and the data source and graph. Same issue; same error. I can cheat, and it'll work - if I change the script to eliminate the input variable, all of the outputs work. -----Original Message----- From: Gandalf [mailto:ga...@ca...] Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2011 1:17 PM To: Support requests/questions about cacti Subject: Re: [cacti-user] Result from CMD not valid http://docs.cacti.net/manual:087:4_help.2_debugging#debugging is the recommended read Reinhard On 12.01.2011 16:46, Boyer, Timothy A. wrote: > I'm running 0.8.7f on a RHEL4 system.
