Spot on. Turns out I had configured the wrong php.ini (/usr/local/etc
from FreeBSD ports, /usr/local/lib is standard; yet another reason I
dislike ports...but I digress)

I have never run into an issue with sessions directly related to
lighttpd; but then again I haven't really put it through the gauntlet.
With the correct php.ini settings, things work fine, except after
logging in as an administrator, I'm presented with the "Access Denied"
message from auth.php. I'm at a loss as to why.

fresh install, md5 comes back fine, user_id is set properly in the
$_SESSION array...can't imagine that being the issue.

mysql  Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.15, for portbld-freebsd5.4 (i386) using  4.3

I'm using lighttpd, instead of Apache. access logs are fine, error
logs show nothing. it looks to be something with the headers. I put
some print statements in auth_login.php and the md5 comes up fine, the
$_SESSION["sess_user_id"] is set properly. I'm not a PHP guru so I'm
not sure if/how to print out the HTTP headers being sent.

As far as I can tell, everything comes back fine from the SQL queries,
and what variables I checked are set properly. I'm thinking about
blowing this install away and trying it again from scratch, but I have
a feeling that's not going to fix anything.

I am wondering if anyone might help and point out how
I can set up Steelhead appliances to be monitored in
cacti?  I know that I can do a snmpwalk on the
appliance - somewhat.  I did download a riverbed.mib,
but find some errors when I do a snmpwalk indicating
"Wrong Type".  This is the RBT-MIB that I have
downloaded.  But it does seem to record cpuload which
is what I am want to start with.  If anyone has any
experience or suggestions on how I can add this to
cacti I look forward to any help.

connect to mysql, because it's logging the login attempts :p

The *poller* issue in cacti.log is residue from when PHP didn't have
the mysql extension compiled in.

Fresh install of 0.8.6g and logging in does nothing. I put in
admin/admin, but instead of getting greeted with "you must change you
password", I'm simply spit back to the login page again, with no
error. If I attempt a login with the wrong credentials, it spits an
error, but admin/admin dies silently and I'm presented with the login
page again. Any ideas?

If it were me I'd write a script that gets them from the sql database.
Your graphs will be delayed by how long it takes for these offline files
to be transferred across from whereever..

You can't make it live somehow?  Surely there must be a way you can get
cacti to do all the hard work for you? :)

graphs take a while to generate.    you need to double check the permissions
on both your /log and /rra directories.    the install docs tell you what it
should be.

These files are then shipped back to me on a daily basis.

I have the data currently stored, along with the era value for when they
were generated, in a SQL database and want to feed this into Cacti.

I have tried writing RRD databases directly and this does work but how
can I get Cacti to display them?

Either I can write directly to the rrd files and somehow convince Cacti
it did the writing or I could write a cacti script that sucks data in
from the SQL database and somehow overrides the era value with the value
from the database.

Any assistance gladly received.

You need to goto Settings->Paths and increase both your concurrent processes to no higher than 2 times the number of processors, and threads to no more than 20.  You will see a dramatic change.

The process below is automatic from the poller.php program.

Can I run cactid on cmdline with, for examples:
root ~/> cactid 0 50 &
root ~/> cactid 50 98 &

This worries me a bit. The intent (of the code) was/is to _replace_
'.1.3.6.1.4.1.8767.2.1' with 'OID_BASE' when debuging. So either

Everything looks right to me; the problem is, the above rrd file is =
never=20
created. Watching the logs from my little wrapper script, Cacti is never =

even executing the script that I wrote to monitor this on it's 5-minute=20
runs. I defined a few SNMP-based graphs for the host, and they are =
created=20
and work just fine.

Any ideas? Did I miss an important step or something?

Running: gather-ipfm-cacti.pl query ipaddress
Returns:

Running: gather-ipfm-cacti.pl query hostname
Returns:
216.250.164.46:tungsten.msp.technicality.org
216.250.164.47:nitrogen.msp.technicality.org

Then, when I go to the add graphs page, I see both of the above hosts. If 
I create a graph, and then go to the data source that the graph, it's set 
up as follows:

Everything looks right to me; the problem is, the above rrd file is never 
created. Watching the logs from my little wrapper script, Cacti is never 
even executing the script that I wrote to monitor this on it's 5-minute 
runs. I defined a few SNMP-based graphs for the host, and they are created 
and work just fine.

Any ideas? Did I miss an important step or something?

Turns out my problem was I upgraded cacti and didn't apply the patches.
There is a bug with the latest with this problem

I patched and most of the devices came good.

I removed and recreated the two windows 2003 servers that refused to
come good and they are now collecting again...=20

I had the same problem on our Windows 2k, 2003 servers.  Drive space, 
virtual memory (drive space) all went blank after and upgrade (not this 
latest one, the one before), I haven't had time to address it.

Checked the firewall, not running, and definately on 2k boxes.  I now 
get no results using the data sources, so recreating the graphs isn't 
the solution.

I'm stumped by this too.

Hello List,

I'm running cactid v. 0.8.6d, and works perfectly.
But, I'm going to go into trouble in a few days.
I'm adding many hosts and DS to poll, and for now
the time used by cactid is about 220sec:

Here are the stats:

I'd like to know how I can fork 2 cactid process, to get the half work to do
each others ?
Can I run cactid on cmdline with, for examples:
root ~/> cactid 0 50 &
root ~/> cactid 50 98 &
